  3. Trouble is the more I drink the more beautiful they all start to look.........................................
  4. Morning Folks! Phone call at 6.45am and then looked out to find white stuff everywhere! Oh, dear! Off to Cambridge in the MX in a few minutes too, that'll be interesting. Still the new lady in my life suggests I might want to bring everything I might need in case we get snowed in. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, could be worse I suppose.................................
  5. Superb! As an ex-pat Londoner, Hackney rather than Mile End and with a father & uncles on the signalling side based at Dalston this latest incarnation seems like deja vu! Now where did I put those London Road NLR coaches & the Peter Kay kits................................
  6. I cringe every time I hear, "going forward" and as for 'different to' becoming ubiquitous instead of the correct 'different from'! How difficult is it? 'Like to', coming together; 'different from', moving apart. I actually prefer the American term, 'different than'. At least it indicates a difference.
  7. I was going to create a caption, but when I saw this I thought, "I can't beat that!"
  8. I think, if it's a non-Canon cartridge, some models now have a built in sensor to prevent resetting. I had the same thing with my Canon MP492 and ended up having to buy Canon originals.
  9. Superb! Don't know which was my favourite, the incredible 'crabbing' stunt biplane, the P-38 Lightening, the Harrier, or the Dakota. During both my Battlefield Lecture Tours in Normandy this year I had to explain to schoolchildren who asked what the name of the newly restored and installed Dakota meant at the Merville Battery site. Most of the teaching staff disappered when they saw it was called 'SNAFU'..................................
  10. Bribery: A News of the World communication device...........................
  11. A Bhuddist went to his dentist and refused Novocaine for root canal work He said he wanted to Transcend Dental Medication Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...............................................................
  12. If you want a selection of less run of the mill, but first class writers try: Philip Kerr's excellent stories about Bernie Gunther, an honest German cop, caught up in the pre & post-war Nazi Germany. C.J Sansom's Shardlake series, a lawyer threading his way between King, State and truth in Tudor England Malcolm Pryce's noir and funny Aberystwyth series Jason Goodwin's Otterman Empire, Yashim, stories Michelle Spring, the Laura Principal series Any John Harvey, Resnick novel That should keep you quiet for a while! (If you want to know, how I know, part of my work is reviewing Crime Novels (it's a hard life but someone's got to do it!) All these are so good it makes me want to give up writing my own!
  13. I think a lot of people are in for a shock when they get their renewal notices this year, from what I've seen so far. Shop around? Yes, in theory, but in fact I think they must be operating a cartel. How else can companies across the board suddenly all hike their premiums up at the same time? Over 40 years accident free driving, maximum no claims, quiet rural area and my, admittedly low premium, almost doubled this year!
  14. My wonderful SWMBO always said, "The kitchen table is the only place to dismantle a gearbox on." Don't find many girls like that today!
  15. Wouldn't surprise me in the least, but with little home demand they're more likely exporting them. When I worked for Britains in the 90s some of our military figures and equipment appeared in the US before they even told us ours were due to go into production! I once (only once honest!) made a small error in painting a master sample for China, putting a small line of base green up the trouser leg of a French Napoleonic Infantryman, and, yes, you've guessed it, every single one from the first batch came out with it neatly added!
  16. 4Extra is excellent, and includes Journey Into Space, Dick Barton, Sherlock Holmes and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue as well. It was, I think, never set for axing, just a name change for R7 (part of the BBCs drive to change things for the sake of it!) but they have seen fit to include an Archers slot, which I for one could do without! Pre-Nestle Kit-Kats, Great Big Mars Bars (they really were fun-size!) and writing rude things in the condensation on the top deck windows of a London Trolley Bus on the way to school!
  17. Hi Portico,

Just seen your message. If it was published on RMWeb you should be able to search it out through the site OK or if you can't then try it as a question on one of the sections. Ex Met myself, but not sorry to be away from the job as it is now!

  18. Inspiring? Well thought inspiring at least: Bevleys, by the Lowery's, perhaps a bit too 'clean', but for simple sweeping lines difficult to beat in the period. Arcadia, the original EM layout, not the later 'O' gauge version. It definitely inspired me to tackle EM. Harford Street, OO perhaps but North London post-war grot just as I remember it!
  19. Got a fine stable of Southern locos and coaches going, no interest in Eastern locos at all............................................................Oh. buggrit!!!!!!!!!!!! Well perhaps a small layout with just one or two................................
  20. back gussets preferably!
