  1. Maybe that is a good part of the reason a lot of model shops struggle? Just guessing like Congratulations to Test Valley Models though on the first years trading
  2. Really its not can you stop being silly for a moment.
  3. I must admit I have never really looked too hard but the stations along the Dore & Chinley line in the Hope Valley seem rather under represented. The trains along the line seem to be shot-to-death, but I have seen very few older pictures of, say, Hathersage station.
  4. Wonderful! The placement of the building is so organic, just like they have grown, piecemeal over the years, out of the ground on which they sit - which is jut how reality is
  5. In the details maybe not so true, but several of the concepts are pretty far-sighted.
  6. I agree - CJF's iconic plans for 4mm scale are better suited to modern N gauge. I suppose you could use the 21inch squares as shown on the plan and originally meant for 7mm scale; in order to get a workable OO gauge plan though.
  7. Would it not just be a a whole lot easier for Rails to sell paints brushes and a small book on how to paint small trains?
  8. At a cursory glance V4 looks "railway", though the extra siding in V5 could be handy for storing loaded wagons in, prior to departure as part of a full load.
  9. I *think* clay tigers are 18.5M or thereabout in length.... I saw the Q on that "status board thing" but it seems better to answer it here.
  10. To me, This is exactly what a cameo is (or at least one interpretation ) A small extract to give the flavour of a larger whole. Thurso as shown above pretty much fits that description.
  11. This link should take the people clicking on it to the Entry Form Page http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/328-creating-cameo-layouts-the-challenge/
  12. On the Cameo Layouts thread there is a form to download
  13. Possibly too late for now, butI thought to mention that South East Finecast do a (thin) sheet of clear "corrugated iron".
  14. I initially read that as implying you had all the components of a 31 hidden in the carpet!
  15. I have been familiar with the term and ideology long before Mr Rice's current tome on the matter and this, to me, is pretty much the Cameo concept in a nutshell. A small layout, done to your highest achievable standards, to create an easy on the eye working image of a slice of reality. or to use the original literary definition of "Cameo" a short descriptive literary sketch which neatly encapsulates someone or something.
  16. Some very nice simple, but totally "fit for purpose" woodwork there! 3x1" (or 69 x18mm if one must) is ideal baseboard timber frame size IMO and the chop saw is just the tool to cut it with.
  17. Working! The cameo idea is that the whole unit of layout, backscene, front framing etc is in one piece - so really the maximum size is that which you feel you can move about with ease. You are probably starting to reach a limit at about 7 foot in length and a yard or so in depth.
  18. Winding all the way back to the "Sleepers at Kineton MOD depot" postings, not had a look on line for some time - I wonder if the slots were to allow a T-bar type of handle to be inserted, to make moving the sleepers relatively easy with a few strapping squaddies to hand?
  19. I really do hope not I like to be able to see at a glance what Interesting Other Countries Railways are going to be there at a glance. "Some people" may have "some reason" for complaining that some furrin stuff is at a British Railway Modelling run show but the rest of us are fully aware that good modelling is simply good modelling and wish to see it, and be previously aware of its attendance.
  20. I am "guessing" but on that wall is a diagonal patch/streak of lighter stone on the left hand of the wall, heading up to the base of the chimney stack. I think that is where the chimney will be routed
  21. Chimneys rarely go straight up from hearth to pot - other wise the rain would put the fire out! They normally have a dog leg in them.
  22. Totally O/t but table and dining chair legs were the landscape my very first Dublo 3 rail had to traverse in the early 70s! so that image kinda made me
  23. I am not a "Rule #1" type at all, but with Industrial locos in industrial applications there has to be some leeway, After all, if Lloyd-Jackson Industries had really existed, they would have kept their locomotives in the best state to suit their purpose.
  24. Having completely missed out on any these in the first issue I thought I better order one now - plain black suits me for steam locomotives so, at sometime whenever, Lilleshall should be coming along to work the "industrial connection" that is yet to be created. For some reason this thought really pleases me. A lot.
  25. As something of an aside, as opposed to being really O/T after seeing this thread I had a look in GW BLT by Paul Karau (for the umpteenth time in the 30 years I have had it)and Moreton really would make a fine basis for a model.
