  1. What curves? Very true I do need to get something of the tender done. The rolling part is two bits of u channel - one for the front pair of axles and one for the rear so it has an element of steering. These then screw to a flat piece of brass that is then fixed to the footplate of the tender - pretty basic!
  2. It has crossed my mind that I probably need to get the tender underway
  3. I'm not very familiar with the west side of Liverpool St but I never knew it was a through station, even if only for a short while
  4. Is this the tunnel entrance at Liverpool St? https://www.mediastorehouse.com/p/560/liverpool-street-station-great-eastern-railway-10013543.jpg Obviously out of use by the time the picture was taken.
  5. I've yet to build a tender - but does the spacer version fit inside and the folded version fit outside the wheels - i.e. you need both? The kit I have uses this method. I suspect not but worth a thought? edit: nope - ignore me - the fold up one looks nothing like the outside frames
  6. Desperate for a lottery win to buy a full set!
  7. I just choose what I want from the comet site and plug the numbers in the wizard site. Andrew has said he wants to get all the info from all the brands onto the one site but it's a massive task.
  8. Easy to fill in - for ones I wasn't interested in I just said not for me. Although I'd love a 309 so may have put that down. Might be a stretch of rule 1 though
  9. Been a bit busy to be doing modelling, but have no managed to start the fitting of pickups - There's a shim of plasticard under each one. The tips stick out ever so slightly - this is intentional so they don't try and touch the non-insulated inside part of the wheel. Hopefully. Next step is to solder two lengths of wire to make a kind of bus bar which also helps to prevent them moving etc.
  10. Small time or not, allowing money to be taken for goods that you have no ability to supply and then refuse to refund - in my personal case it took about 5 or 6 requests - I'm no legal legal but that smells of obtaining money by deception, which as an offence I understand has been replaced by fraud as a general term. I think anyone who is owed money would prefer to just get it back, but assuming the above stories are true (I have no reason to believe otherwise, especially after the trouble I had) and he is unwilling to refund then other routes need to be looked at. It's a sad state of affairs
  11. Best of luck, I hope you have success.
  12. I will gladly read and digest any tips - I do sometimes have a habit of ignoring things though - e.g. starting with a complex kit I have a couple of sets of Hornby points and a straight to just check how things run over them. I do like the look of the new Peco bullhead stuff however for any layout I do eventually build. It would be a lot easier to not do tender pickups so that's good!
  13. Hi John, thank you for the kind words! Not the best idea doing one as a first "real" kit - the old DJH J50 being my first other one and that was 20+ years ago and nothing since! That sounds like good advice - I've got no layout at the moment so can't easily test the effectiveness but I guess that can always be added later if I consider the wiring route when building it.
  14. Turning my eye to pickups - what's the minimum number reccomended? I'm thinking leading and trailing drivers, and then leading and trailing axles on the tender making a total of 4 pickups? Is that sufficient or do I need to do more? Thank you
  15. Snaffled some more crankpin nuts, and so finally...FINALLY... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE3uHbYDU6Y Rather surprised it doesn't bind up. It looks like the centre axle isn't quite right, probably one of the wheels is ever so slightly wonky.
  16. I've done a couple of small orders with Andrew, and also exchanged a few emails - great service every time, and no fuss with small orders, well packed, reasonable prices and postage costs, delivered very quickly. Long Live Wizard Models! Only "issue" I have is with the number of ranges he has, I can't decide what to get. Having the old websites still up for comet etc. also helps finding info - I understand and appreciate it would be a massive task to integrate it all into the one site.
