  1. Sorry Tom, I wasn’t mocking those who have had issues, it’s the anonymous ‘friend’ I was reacting to. My belief is fight your own argument on its merits, don’t invent a friend to back up your case. But the poster didn’t seem to want to engage with Accurascale, just post here. See McC’s reply. Accurascale have acknowledge these issues and have been, by all accounts here on RMWeb, actively resolving them.
  2. And a friend of mine bought all the other ones, and didn't have to send any back! And another friend ......
  3. Is that your ideal price point including sound, or would sound push it up by another £100 - £125?
  4. Not answering for the OP, but Proses make I think there is one manufacturer who makes an Acrylic Helix kit comprising of curved acrylic roadbed and metal spacers for the lifts. Saw it recently but cannot recall where. Of course, the OP may have a different requirement.
  5. Typical Tory Telegraph, no mention of Brexit. And before anyone invokes the 'No-Political rule / Don't mention Brexit' here, it was one of the reason Hatton's email said was a factor in their closure.
  6. Same here with my box of 10 yard lengths which arrived yesterday. That reinforing strip is a great idea and much appreciated.
  7. Ahhh, them were the days. 😜
  8. Think this Announcement needs a Re-Launch, its not getting the attention it deserves. Unfortunately seems to have been lost in the mist of the other big news of the week.
  9. Adding my voice to the sadness with this news. Whilst Hatton’s management has explained that they are undertaking a planned closing of the business ensuring that customers and suppliers will all be properly dealt with and no-one will be left without goods or funds, what they didn’t say is equally more important. I understand that this route should provide all the staff with a secure redundancy package, which is commendable as this comes out of the business profits. A true business looking after their staff, so rare these days unfortunately. I wish than all the very best for the future, both Hatton’s owners and their staff. I spoke to them this morning and passed on my best wishes to one of the staff. I’ll leave with a small story on how brilliant their customer service was. A few years ago I bought a 2-car DMU and placed it in their vault (excellent innovation - hint hint to others), and left it there for a few months until I had enough to avail of their free shipping. A month or so later my wife and daughter got me the exact same 2-car DMU as a birthday present. I was delighted but now I had two. I couldn’t be rude to ask for the receipt so I could replace their gift they so thoughtfully bought. After a few days I rang Hatton’s and explained my predicament and, before I finished explain what happened, the sales guy said no worries, they’ll remove the DMU from my vault and fully refund me my money. Wonderful service. I would like to add my voice that I hope their incredible on-line information resource is somehow maintained.
  10. When I first had a model railway back in the late 70s I had a few Hornby, couple of Lima and one Airfix loco. Then it all got abandoned as college, work, girls, family took precedence. Fast forward to 6 years ago when I rediscovered my interest and the world had moved on. My old locos would just about work after a good servicing, but the wheels and track was causing severe problems. DCC and better looking models on the market, I made an easy decision to get some new stock. Familiarity and loyalty resulted in a Hornby impulse buy as I started to understand the new modelling landscape. So to my question, which is on mixing manufacturers of the same model. I have a few small rakes of wagons which I’d like to expand. I have Accurrascale HAAs and MHAs, as well as the RevolutioN TEAs and would like to get more, but am unsure how they would all look if I got some from the other manufacturers. Are there noticeable difference in the physical model and the artwork? Maybe I’m being unfair to Hornby, but the impression I’m getting is that they have fallen behind the other new players, perhaps playing on their laurels, and haven’t really updated their models to the newer standards. There seemed to be a lax attitude to models in the 80s and of course laser 3D scans weren’t around then. Hornby (1970), Bachmann (2007) and Cavalex all produce TEA wagons. I’m guessing that the 1970 Hornby just wouldn’t cut the mustard against the newer models, although they have clearly produced runs with later branding (EWS, VTG). Is this on new tooling or the original? Cavalex (2022) and RevolutioN (2018) are both very new, so should work well together, is this a fair comment? Hornby have the MHA from a 2005 release, compared to Accurascale’s 2022 model. Too far apart or still a good model? And the last one of interest to me is the HAA. Both Accurascale and Cavalex have a 2022 model, again guessing that these will stand up well together (paint colour may differ?). But Hornby’s versions are from a 1980 and 2003 tooling. Would there be noticeable differences if the Hornby was added to the rake? Appreciate the experiences of others.
  11. This came up on my YT suggested viewing. Seeking therapy tomorrow morning, as soon as the doors to the pub open.
  12. As a teenager, when using the very fine armature wire you'll see on loco motors, I used to dip the end of the wire I wanted stripped into methylated spirits, remove and then light the end. A very quick flame would burn off the insulation at the end of the wire quickly and neatly without removing excess insulation and without damaging the wire either.
  13. Never met the man but found his website and resources almost immediately when I returned to the hobby several years ago and found his advice invaluable. His knowledge of DCC seemed to be infinite. A loss to his family and friends obviously, and also a loss to our community. https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/home-and-garden/in-memoriam-mark-gurries/ar-AA1kNtec Only found out when I tried to connect to his Groups.io and saw the message: https://groups.io/g/w4dccqa/topic/mark_guirres/102850273?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate/sticky,,,20,2,0,102850273,previd%3D1701291097536548888,nextid%3D1694610565006512148&previd=1701291097536548888&nextid=1694610565006512148 I hope his legacy will be the retention of his incredibly resourceful website. https://sites.google.com/site/markgurries/dcc-welcome-page And where he contributed to this one: https://www.wiringfordcc.com/wirefordcc_toc.htm He was instrumental in JMRI Decoder Pro https://sites.google.com/site/markgurries/dcc-welcome-page/about-mark-gurries/jmri-decoder-pro-history
  14. Taking the liberty to expand this to other buildings over a tunnel: Handsworth Park, West Bromwich
  15. Whilst James's Flickr site has bigger pictures, not all the steps in the Acurascale blog are shown. However, I've just seen that James has kindly replicated many of the images in his own blog here on RMWeb and they are full screen size. So thanks to all.
  16. Absolutely brilliant. Well done @James Makin. When I get some more confidence, I'd love to do something like this, but I'll try it out first on some of my railroad quality models first before attacking my better models. @Accurascale Fran, may I ask, if it's easy, that the images on your website blog are larger, or even clickable to get a larger pop-outs? James's work is sometimes intricate and, with my eye sight and an 28" monitor, I still struggle a little.
  17. Apologies for my mistake. I would definitely do that, if for no other reason than to let him/her know they have been spotted and there may be some consequences forthcoming, either a solicitor’s letter or a reprimand from eBay. It’ll worry them a little for a few days. Take that as karma. It’ll also let them know others are watching what they are doing, and perhaps work a little harder the next time they use other’s hard work.
  18. Coincidently at the weekend I came across your files (assuming you are ToddTheTrainnut there) on Thngiverse, having just purchased a 3D printer. I have a list of items I want to print, and an NCE Powercab holder is one of them. Looking on Thingiverse, it’s amazing how many complicated / overengineered versions there are, including one that almost encapsulates the Powercab. I like your design as it’s simply efficient and appears to work (I won’t know until I print it myself). Thank you
  19. I've been doing some research on 3D printers and came across a post about 2-3 weeks ago relating to a new model recently released with great resolution, easy set-up and improvements to simplify the operation. Think it was a Resin printer but could be mistaken, I’ve looked at so many YouTube posts in the 2 weeks. Wonder if this strikes a chord with you (or anyone else). Think the cost was around £800 +/- mark. My head is full of data relating to self-levelling beds, better bearings (which makes me thing it was a FDM printer) but also 8K resolution (then a resin printer). But it’s very possible I’ve got the specs from different machines mixed up having jumped from one to another. I can get a good 3D printed for the office, it’s a one-hit opportunity, so if I go simple and easy with a basic machine, then that’s it! But I don’t want to get a complicated one as a 1st 3D machine as this could be self-defeating. It’ll be a good, long-term investment which is simple to use without having to spend days running test prints to calibrate it. Can anyone recall posting a link or seeing a recent YT review that seems to answer my query?
  20. Thank you Nick. Agree, I’d never have found that just looking for Lars.
  21. Hi Nick, Would you have a link to Carl's YT channel please, I cannot seem to find it. Found Lars' channel no problem. Thanks Damo
  22. I used this article from ZDNET a few years ago on 2 PCs and it worked perfectly. https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/ Haven’t checked it out recently but ........... I did see something in the past few days about Microsoft removing the upgrade path from Win7 to Win10. Extreme Tech, confirming your suspicions: https://www.extremetech.com/computing/microsoft-finally-closes-free-windows-10-upgrade-loophole This from PCMag advises that the Win7/8 upgrade to Win 11 has ended, but Win10 to Win11 is still available. https://www.pcmag.com/news/microsoft-kills-free-windows-7-to-windows-11-upgrade-option I'm not sure if they are saying that Win7 to Win10 is possible if you have the original key and a system build of 22H2 or older. I think 22H2 is Win10 though and not Win7.
  23. I was in West Ealing a few weeks ago (mid Sept) and was curious about some new track equipment between the tracks. Asking the guys in Hi-Viz jackets, they said it a prototype battery charging system they are testing. (Off-topic: I always understood the word ‘Prototype’ as being something in the investigatory realm, and not the end result). That’s a record for RMWeb, haven’t finished the OP and already it’s OT.
  24. I got the Brother P-Touch 1000 about 5 years ago. Use it for lots of other stuff around the house (nest of power cables for computer peripherals, wife #1, on my forehead so that the kids know who feeds them...), I see this model is now discontinued, but you might find something suitable from the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-PT1000-P-Touch-Labelling-System/dp/B00030J17K/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
