    On Cats

When we had a cat, sorry, when a cat adopted us as her slaves (don't know who the cat really belong to or it's 'real' name), it spent most of the day with us and ate most of its meals with us, we named her 'Riley' - because she lived the life of Riley.
  2. Yep, I managed to survive OfQ, but later succumbed to Project Violet.
  3. Similar to a few years ago when in Railtrack. Yet another management 'team building' course. Just for fun our 'team leader' came up with the catchy team name of "Team Work And Team Success". Needless to say none of us were quite brave enough to use the abbreviation in our presentation at the end of the course.
  4. Unless it's the one they put your coffin on!
  5. There is a 'Behind the Scenes' DVD (Fastline/TeleRail FL0401) that has a short film of the Matisa Tamper filmed in 1947, which looks to be the same type as the one above (might even be the same tamper?). The DVD has lots of other very interesting stuff, as have the other 3 DVDs in the series.
  6. But they will be 'signal berths' on the same TCB panel, not AB as per OP.
  7. From some facts and figures in the notes of a Block Class I attended in 2018, the shortest AB section is 9 chains, or if you prefer, 198 yards.
  8. Unfortunately a last minute hitch means I'm unable to attend your slide show today Mick. Hope all goes well and is well attended, albeit minus one.
  9. Hi Steve, Many thanks for the additional information, very much appreciated. Regards, Ian.
  10. Awesome modelling there Steve. I'm in the throws of building some 7mm signals for a layout which hopefully will be fully working and lit similar to your signals. I've gleaned some info from this thread regarding signal transfers and "gaslight" LEDs, but can I ask what type of fibre do you use (single-mode or multi-mode) and where do you source it from please?
  11. Indeed so. Though I must admit I've not been down Marygate for a couple of years or so since YCFC vacated Bootham Crescent.
  12. Sadly, the Bay Horse in Marygate, is no more.
  13. Sorry, I hadn't looked in detail at the NLS site, just thought it might be a good place to start, but apparently not - apologies.
  14. A visit to the NLS website might be worth a look. Maps of the 1950s/early 1960s might be the best option. Might also depend on the size of power station you have in mind (pre the large CEGB ones). Even in the mid 1960s York still had it's own power station on Foss Islands Road, and I suspect many other similar sized towns did too at this time.
  15. Maybe ARS is more intelligent/discerning than we think?
  16. That only equates to about 20 miles of single track, surely the cancelled sections of HS2 amounted to more than that?
  17. Although a nice touch to have a dog sat on one of the front seats of the red car.
  18. Looking at the video again, I notice on the left what appears to be another coach end. Could it be that the (fireman?) looking out of the cab window was distracted by this and thought they had further to run (about another 4 coach lengths) than what was actually the case? Not saying this is an excuse, but if there wasn't anyone on the ground (i.e. a shunter?) conducting the movement, it might be a factor that is considered during any investigation.
  19. Except it wasn't knocked down by the villagers. The last occasion it was, allegedly, an over-intoxicated vet. Who, again allegedly, was 'done' for drink-driving again just a few weeks later. I must say though, that it is nice and quiet in the village with hardly any traffic going through.
  20. Not quite got your number transfers level on your model rolling stock? No worries, it happens on the big railway too. As evidenced at Darlington earlier today.
  21. In the situation described in the OP, the drivers of the two loco's would use the GSM-R radio to communicate (not mobile phones). GSM-R has a special function for such instances where the driver of the assisting loco can log on to the same GSM-R head code as the leading loco for a 'secure' comms link.
