  1. I wonder who owns the rights to the Swilly company?
  2. Yes but I think people prefer Peco’s track as it’s higher quality and more realistic. Apparently.
  3. Some people just aren’t appreciative.
  4. Track plan could have been hard if it wasn’t for ordnance survey Ireland. I put on a historical filter and simply zoomed in over carn and Fahan and took a screenshot. As you can see they are excellent, buildings and track clearly marked and labelled. I hope to formulate a track plan soon and I’ll put it here when I do. I hope to complete baseboard construction soon and meanwhile will wrestle with a problem. Hornby or Peco code 100 track?
  5. Finding the actual trackplans for the stations “in the day” was going to be hard, carn was not a commercial success. I used ordnance survey Ireland with a historical filter and it was fantastic! The buildings are clearly marked and labelled and it was free! I hope to finish baseboard construction soon and meanwhile will wrestle with a problem. Hornby or Peco track?
  6. Whilst that is true I have noticed unrealistic curves with the Hornby corners, you can’t really make a gentle sweeping curve.
  7. Gonna make you sweat......C+C music factory Oh and I posted this because I confused the first page for the last. I don’t know how.
  8. Down down down and out......... bugsy malone
  9. Oh my goodness! Thank you sooo much!! I would highly recommend this to anyone doing a trackplan!! Look at these screenshots!! thank you!! It was going to be so hard! Thank you!
  10. Do you have this book? Could you send me the pictures?!?
  11. I have 9mm ply for the board and I just painted it white with matte emulsion as a base coat for the scenics. Follow my blog for more info on my layout!!
  12. I agree. I’m from Derry (let’s not get controversial) and my nearest model shop is Bobs models coleraine. Yes, I know it’s cheaper and faster online but to get that feeling of walking into a model shop, seeing the cars and boats and planes and trains, that’s a special feeling. It isn’t the same as clicking add to basket.
  13. To me, making it as a modeller means looking at a layout and saying “yep. That’s done. There is nothing more I can add”. Who cares about getting your picture in a magazine? That’s not what the hobby is about. It’s about making scale models of railways that are good TO YOU.
  14. No better way for a faithful set to live it’s days. My dublo train is honestly the most reliable train I have ever owned. I guess things were better quality in the 50’s
  15. It is. I am lucky enough to have a house down the road from the old carn station, still stands in all its glory, and Fahan is now a restaurant called the railway tavern and firebox grill.
  16. I’m so divided! I don’t want to pay to replace my entire track collection and at the same time I want the semi a to look good! What do I do?!?
  17. Following on from my last thread, I was wondering if anyone knew how to wire up a point control panel using Hornby select, decoder and surface mounted point motors?
  18. Actually I’m rethinking this. I don’t want to replace my entire collection of track. I have enough to make a layout already. So Hornby it is.
  19. Isn’t the Hornby turntable a bit... unrealistic?
  20. Right-oh. It is decided. Peco code 100 on the scenic section and maybe Hornby in the fiddleyard depending on price.
