  1. Talking of computer screens, I've had trouble as well. There must be easier ways to seperate the parts. Nobody told me that knife blades would leave such deep marks on the computer screen.
  2. Some might say: There is something of an irony in your complaint about a cult of celebrity. Which mentions celebrities, but does not name any of the "people who really do contribute to society and in their own free time". That is, the complaint itself helps persist the very thing it is complaining about!
  3. They laughed when we said we should have a Joke Thread; they're not laughing now.
  4. Even Chuffer's Restaurant (beside what used to be the Fowey Station site) is, alas, no more. This was, allegedly, the last known refuge of Chuffer Dandridge. Infamously, the resting (and perpetually impecunious) Shakespearean actor-manager who used to appear on Terry Wogan's breakfast broadcasts on Radio Two. With increasingly desperate attempts to find paying work.
  5. @Steve Ah, that makes sense now, thank you. I'll try and find a way to feedback to ScaleScenes that "sliding doors base layer" should say "sliding doors cover layers (options)"
  6. He's still in the previous bar, wondering where his Irish and Scottish friends have gone. He's wondering : is it because it's their turn to buy a round?
  7. Ah, the powers of rumour and hearsay? Actually, if there was a move, it would be a fair way away: But it hasn't happened (yet). And it won't be Longleat. As for the East Somerset Railway, something like this? (New extension from Cranmore in red)
  8. Weathered? Is there a polite technical expression that covers "so extremely weathered that it looks like it's been in Barry Scrapyard for five years, and used as a roost by all the local pigeons."
  9. I'm impressed by the quality of ScaleScenes free Low Relief Warehouse. https://scalescenes.com/product/t002b-low-relief-warehouse/ But confused by one part, the sliding doors base layer. If I'm reading the instructions sheet correctly(?), these are to be glued on the back of the sliding doors cover layer, then stuck to the brickwork. But if I do that, won't the sliding doors base layer be hidden or out of sight, and if so, why bother?
  10. No, that's Army 802. This is Tiny: "Buckfastleigh Tiny" by Geof Sheppard - Own work. Licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 via Commons - https://wiki2.org/en/File:Buckfastleigh_Tiny.jpg#/media/File:Buckfastleigh_Tiny.jpg
  11. As a variation on a theme, how about this? SNCF's four-note station jingle inspired David Gilmour to write Rattle That Lock.
  12. Married And Content A man and a woman who had never met before, but who were both married to other people, found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a trans-continental train. Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room, they were both very tired and fell asleep quickly, he in the upper berth and she in the lower. At 1:00 AM, the man leaned down and gently woke the woman saying, 'Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket? I'm awfully cold.' 'I have a better idea,' she replied, 'Just for tonight, let's pretend that we're married.' 'Wow! That's a great idea!', he exclaimed. 'Good,' she replied, 'get your own ******* blanket!' After a moment of silence, he farted.
  13. And today's MBO* award goes to ... ... (long pause while opening envelope) ... ... Darius43!!! (sfx, rapturous applause) * MBO = Master of the Bleeding Obvious
  14. For anyone curious to explore the relevance of this to Ancient Time Keeping, Harrison's Lesser Watch, (and Dell & Rodney Trotter), I refer my honourable colleagues to Grael Britannia.
  15. Oxexpatriate has the benefit of living further south on latitude 45°31′N. For those of us living on latitude 51°N (or there abouts like Avebury, Stonehenge and London), (and especially for those of us who get up in the dark to travel to work), the more astute of the early risers might have perceived a curious development. This probably passed by the more bleary-eyed unnoticed. It would seem logical that after the shortest day has elapsed the mornings would immediately start getting lighter earlier. But this isn't what happens - the mornings continue darkening until New Years Eve! e.g. Sunrise and sunset in London in 2017/8 (in 10 day steps) So what is behind this peculiarity, which appears to fly in the face of received wisdom about the solstice - surely the shortest day should experience the latest sunrise and earliest sunset? It's because there are not 24 hours in a day! It’s an approximation. There are two reasons why the length of the solar day varies, the first being the fact that the axis of the Earth's rotation is tilted –c.23.5 degrees from the vertical* - and second, the Earth's speed varies because it moves in an elliptical orbit around the sun, accelerating when it is closer to the star's gravitational pull and decelerating when it is further away. *vertical in this context means at 90 degrees to the line between the centres of the Earth and the Sun. © http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f0/Seasons1.svg/600px-Seasons1.svg.png
  16. No, she's demanding that everything is GWR Broad Gauge in O-Scale!!! I told you, she's from Swindon!
  17. Hurrah! But we will have to wait a couple of weeks for the sunrises to get earlier. Not a lot of people know that...
  18. Oops, too late! I've already met St.Greta and her diesel-powered support crew in Plymouth. Doh! not supposed to mention that either.
  19. Yes, a DC-DC converter. A few decades ago, I built one myself to bring 24V truck voltage (in a very old truck) down to 12V regulated for a 12V stereo radio. Nowadays, much easier to buy one off the shelf from people like RS Components https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/power-supplies-transformers/dc-dc-converters/ or Farnell UK https://uk.farnell.com/c/power-line-protection/power-supplies/dc-dc-converters
  20. Here's an example of a copy & paste direct from Excel. It looks like something clever is converting it to an image?
  21. What we need is someone like Jasper Carrot with Best Ever Shipping Insurance Claims. Like : I was obeying ColRegs when I felt a bump in my stern.
  22. Ah, one of my favourite Shakesperian thespians. Is he still on tour with Chuffer Dandridge? Or did they both retire to run Chuffer's Restaurant in Fowey?
  23. Subject: Should children witness childbirth? Due to a power outage at the time, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very, very dark, so the paramedic asked Kathryn, a 3 year old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her mummy (Helen) so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathryn did as she was asked. Helen pushed and pushed, and after a little while Colin was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Colin began to cry. The paramedic then thanked Kathryn for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3 year old what she thought about what she had just witnessed. Kathryn quickly responded. "He shouldn't have crawled in there in the firstplace. Smack him again."
