  1. Multiple selling identities does raise alarm bells. Glad Mike is getting his model back.
  2. In the local docks in Dundee grooved tramway track and checkrailed track was used The tramway track dates back to the 19th century and was set in cobbles
  3. Apart from Foula in Shetland who celebrate Christmas on 6th January and new year on the 13th.
  4. Mitchell library, Scottish records office maybe Strathclyde university who I think have some records
  5. Bench fitting last done over thirty years ago Trained by a guy who had been working a fair bit longer than that Dad also apprenticed as a fitter on the railway before he transferred to the footplate
  6. Another way to see where the high points are is to put engineers blue on a flat surface and put the part concerned on it, the high points will be stained blue
  7. The Metropolitan tank would be a good start, lots built long lasting and used on a few railways Having a chassis as well is an advantage Sell for a lot when they show up on eBay
  8. Walsworth models are working on a etched box tank, although it is taking a while.
  9. @Sandy Harper how are you getting on with the box tank?
  10. I think from memory standard is that 10 tons of coal occupies 400 cu ft so any deviation is over the required capacity Of course not all coal is of the same weight but you have to have a measurement to work from
  11. R Y Pickering might be an option not covered by other kit makers and quite prolific in output I think
  12. I don’t think it’s that unusual to find old rural dwellings next to more industrial buildings as towns expanded and encroached on rural areas This would have been more common in the earlier years of the last century
  13. I like the horseshoe one, seems in keeping with the era and links back to horse drawn narrowboats and early tramways
  14. Hi Chas I am not sure it would work, I was thinking of tack soldering to keep the strip together and then clamp either in a hold and fold or use bending bars to bend the whole lot together. I would give this a try myself as I am curious if the idea can be made to work but cannot set up to solder at the moment Does that give a better idea of what I am thinking?
  15. Would it be possible to tack solder some lengths of wire or strip together and then bend? That might give a consistent length between bends. Not able to try this out myself at the moment as my “room of doom” is more doom than room at the moment and with 3 cats the rest of the House is a bit problematic for modelling
  16. The Caledonian Railway had one as well which disappeared before grouping It had the crane taken off and replaced with a short chimney of the type fitted to the 812 class
