  2. Dundee had an independent brewery operating from the New Pleasance brewery until the 1970’s which could trace its history back to around 1530 They were bought over by Dryburgh’s in the seventies and closed down shortly after

  6. It looks like scotch is used in railway terms, found this on a quick google “Scotch blocks are a specialty type of wheel chock made of steel or steel alloy. Scotch blocks are traditionally used on railways to prevent parked train cars from moving or rolling.   11. This is one of the Armstrong Whitworth ones, Mercian used to do a kit, occasionally comes up on eBay. Having said that I would rather do one of Mike’s ones.

  13. The two trolley wagons would also be specials with a fair number of non standard components. So not really comparative to mass production of standard open wagons. So likely a premium cost

  15. Found a more modern video which shows a tippler with clear views of what appears to be very fine coal being tipped from about 30 seconds in. https://digg.com/video/rotating-railcar-dumper The load starts moving when the wagon reaches quite a high tilt.

  17. Not sure, I think it would depend on the lump size and from memory of the one working in Dundee the coal is stable up to a point then the whole lot pours out. But that was a long time ago I wonder if there are any old films of tipplers in action
  18. Maybe the guy sitting on the wagon in the background next to the tippler is a clue You could sit on the side sheet and step down to the platform as the wagon is tipped
