  1. I agree with people on the filled in windows looking horrible even in n gauge, the old style Electra Railway Graphics used to look quite bad when they used printed on windows before switching to clear windows. And I think you would make some savings by having holes for the windows as less material would be used in the 3d printing process.
  2. I have had custom matched satin enamel Northern rail purple, dark blue and the grey made up that perfectly matches the latest Bachmann Northern rail class 150/2.
  3. Shane, don't forget if Rapido or Hornby ect announce a new APT-P the model wouldn't be ready for sale for at least a year or two if not more. You would have a good lead time before them to sell your version. I was having a modern EMU kit designed for me only to be told months later that one of the RTR manufacturers were evaluating the real thing and they kindly informed the kit designer to put it on hold.
  4. I would prefer Rapido to do it as they would scan the real one at Crewe. I think Rapido would get the livery paint shades correct, and remember the APT-P intermediate coaches are all the same externally (I am referring to the ones Hornby never did) except for the buffet coach that had 2 windows less on one side of the coach and the underframe grilles on the coaches are different on the intermediate coaches and the interiors. So it could be done with one intermediate coach tooling with blanks to get rid of the 2 windows on one side of the buffet coach and the variations of the underframe grilles. And then just tool up the interiors for the intermediate coaches, they would probably just do it like the Realtrack class 143/144 with the individual plastic seats and bulkhead glued into a metal or plastic floor.
  5. Hornby was planning on a re-release of the APT-P in 2012 (The original old tooling) but the bosses at Margate decided that due to health and safety reasons in moving the tooling from Margate to China it wouldn't be done. But then again who would want a model with tooling around 35 years old ?. Like I said in my post the other week if it was done with new tooling as a 5 car pack, with the additional power car and intermediate coaches done separately it would give people the chance to buy it in whatever configuration they want or can afford at the time. Remember the basic APT-E Rapido 4 car dcc ready is £225 and £49 per additional intermediate coach. The APT-P could be done in loads of minor livery variations on its front end, If Hornby did a newly tooled APT-P that was as well done as its mk3 DVT I know people would buy it as a 5 car set then buy the additional coaches if they wanted the extended rake.
  6. It should stay up in the position you want it at.
  7. You never know, in future they might start selling direct to retailers like Hornby and Bachmann.
  8. If Rapido ever do the APT-P, they could do it as a 5 car unit and sell the additional power car and coaches separately allowing people to build up the rake a bit at a time or as they wish.
  9. Would you be able to do a re-spray on a Hornby 4-vep ? , as its glazing seems impossible to remove without risking cracking it.
  10. Thanks Rapido, Hopefully you will produce some ac or dc loco,s and emu,s that other rtr manufacturers have sadly claimed do not sell.
  11. Simple solution to this, if you feel you have been cheated or misled cancel your order with Locomotion and see if they will refund your deposit or full payment, then you wont get your apt-e. I am happy that I have 2 ordered before the deadline, if the deadline has been extended or whatever has happened I would gladly buy more. It makes sense , say only 1000 were ordered after spending all that money on tooling, by allowing the deadline to be extended or carry on indefinitely they will get future sales and orders allowing them to re-coup the tooling costs.
  12. Did all the early rail blue veps with the small warning yellow panel have rail blue window frames or did some have the polished window frames?.
  13. If they are going at high prices on Ebay at the time, I will be happy with the 2 sets I have managed to buy. Seems a shame as by limiting them to 2 per customer it makes it an expensive way to buy them if peoples only choice in future would be to obtain them from Ebay sellers who are just in it to make money. Just remember if people have not pre-ordered them before the deadline it might be that they have not got the money at the time or they might want to see the fully finished product before they part with any cash, its a shame if 30th of april is the deadline no more models made as you could easily get many future orders, otherwise its expensive tooling that might never be used again.
  14. PS,got my order in for one dcc ready apt-e and one sound fitted the other day, would have ordered a few more if it wasn't max 2 per customer!!.We will have to see how much they go for when they start getting sold on EBAY.
  15. Jason, 14 coach APT-P to go with it , you could do it as Hornby did as a 5 car unit and sell the other power car and additional coaches separately so people could build it up into the shorter rakes or the 14 car rakes if they wished to do so. Also it had a few variations on the cab front lettering eg all yellow front with no lettering, black mask front no lettering, black mask front with lettering same as Hornby did, black mask front solid br black logo and red apt lettering and a few other variations plus later the thin red stripe dividing the yellow and executive light grey, and 2 styles of pantograph, not to mention the powercars without the br and intercity lettering when they were being tested with the hst prototype.
  16. I hope Rapido will do the Apt-p to follow up after the Apt-e. I am sure plenty of people would buy them.
  17. The same thing like for like is comparing a Bratchell models class 150/2 kit at nearly the same price as a Bachmann 150/2 rtr run model. I cant see how he could possibly sell any.
  18. He has always offered a 1st class service since he opened in 1997 or 1998, I used to use the Handy man shop or Norman Wisenden as im from Oldham but have since moved to Manchester. Norman Wisenden was well known for his rip of usually above rrp prices. I now live on the outskirts of Manchester city centre. I would prefer to drive to shaw as he always has the latest releases in stock and he will usually match or beat the big box shifter prices, that way I can physically inspect the product before purchasing it. If I bought from a box shifter retailer and say for example it had a paint defect , overspray or paint chipped off ect I would have to send it back at my expense.. I have noticed though the Ian Allen bookshop on Manchester Piccadilly Approach is offering the same price also as the box shifters and Arcadia. I now have to ask my self should I walk into the city and buy the same thing at competitive prices or priced matched, or should I use petrol and time to drive on a 14 mile round trip. I would be getting the same product that I could inspect for any defects at the same price as a box shifter or Arcadia in shaw.? I really think bottom line prices are a serious matter.
  19. We have grown, we are the leading rtr suppiler we can now charge what we want people will stick with us, never question us and they will pay our price hikes for a new livery, our bubble will never burst, we are invincible, people will always buy from us no matter how much our prices rise. roll on your newer competitors.
  20. Its just like if you were in a supermarket and its own brand sugar was £1.07 and the name brand sugar was also £1.07 then suddenly the name brand sugar goes up to £4.28 a bag over a course of time but the other stays the same price or slightly higher would you buy it or choose the cheaper one ? SUGARS, SUGAR SALT IS SALT,SAME THING I have seen this years ago when I worked selling commercial energy at prices where you could get gas and electric around 20-30% cheaper than British gas, I had people saying ill stay as I am even if it doubles, look whats happened to them prices. Things do go up in price but if a newly tooled model was £107.00 at 2011 prices then it jumps up to £400.00 at 2015/2016 serious questions need to be raised here. Same with that ALDI CLAIMING YOU CAN SAVE 50% COMPARED TO OTHER SUPERMARKETS, ONLY A FEW MONTHS AGO, ANYONE NOTICED THIS HAS NOW DROPPED TO SAVE 30% ON ITS MOST RECENT ADVERTS, YOU HAVE ASDA WE ARE CHEAPER ,MORRISONS WE MATCH THIS, TESCO WE DO THIS AND MATCH THIS,SAINSBURYS BUY 10 ITEMS WE MATCH THIS AND THAT. WITH MANY DUPLICATED MODELS AVAILABLE, IF A NEW ENTRANT DID AN EQUALLY ACCURATE CLASS 450 AT SAY £200.00 AND Bachmann AT £400.00 WHICH WOULD YOU PICK?
  21. Its the same with the class 150 That was around £69.00 when released , the latest northern and central trains ect are £127.50 but now listed most recently at around £165.00 rrp after the new prices fair enough they have made a few changes to the motor enclosure so it does not obscure the full interior, but again nearly £100.00 dearer than the original price. The class 85 original price around £85.50 latest price £139.95. Remember when these 20% price increases were announced, wage increases in China ect blamed. They would have a shock if people stopped buying them, lots of stock sitting about unsold or sold at reduced prices eventually. Result buyers shifting to newer more better priced alternatives. If a newer rtr supplier announced just for example a class 323 3 car unit at around £199.00 and a Class 309,319,321 4 car unit at say £225.00 What hope would they have trying to sell a 4 car unit that's going to be nearly 4 times more cost than its original price. Need I say more?
  22. How can Bachmann justify £400 for a 4 car unit considering that its from existing tooling from the class 350 that might be very simply modified ? Considering the Rapido apt-e is a 4 car unit priced at £225.00. The class 350 was only £107.00 when it was released that was the price I got them for from Arcadia in Shaw Oldham. The 450 only needs minor modifications and a new paint mask. I ask my self and others on here are Bachmann Trying to take us all for a ride?
  23. Its all gone very quiet on the apt-e thread.
  24. I hope they will do the apt-p that would look impressive.
  25. Hi, I am looking for some decent accurate drawings or photos showing the underframe components of 1st generation ac emu,s, to get some accurate parts 3d printed or cast in resin. I cant find any good close up ones on flickr.
