  1. The last wall, doors and two windows painted today. In addition I have given a second coat of paint to the exposed end of the grain of the logs. These have now had four coats, so they should fair up well to the weather. The chocolate brown paint is now is stock, so ordering this. Just doing the door frame, door panels and window frames on the exterior in this to give a contrast. Blinds have been purchased from IKEA for both doors and windows. Hoping to get these up tomorrow. Cheers, Ade.
  2. Hi Andy, really looking forwards to moving my stuff in there now. Just had half an hour in there to tidy up. Baseboard one is in situ but the legs are only clamped in place at the moment and need screwing to the board. Due to how the cabin is constructed with the two halves joined together, the baseboards will gain an extra 40cm on the scenic side taking it to the cabin wall. This will be handy as it will allow me to model to embankment and trees. The only drawback will be the joining wall coming out which you can see in the (messy work in progress )second photo. But I think I will curve the backscene around it. The backscene is going to be curved in the corner of the cabin too. Not too fond of 90 degree joints if they can be avoided. With the overall width of the boards I am hoping that the railway will sit well in the landscape. Cheers, Ade.
  3. Hi Andy, just found your new thread at you are at 2 pages already! Cheers, Ade.
  4. Welcome to O gauge! I have been running my locos in on a few lengths of track back and forth. But I intend to invest in a rolling road in due course. Cheers, Ade.
  5. Hi Simon, I too can recommend the Bristol show. I am really looking forwards to it. Cheers, Ade.
  6. Hi Dan, thank you. Happy New Year to all! Had a day off yesterday to take Lez out shopping. But today I have made more progress with the painting. Just half the right hand wall now to get painted, then the first coat will be complete on the walls. I fitted the fascia board to the front today as well. The doors and windows will be painted chocolate and cream. I have yet to buy the guttering and butts. Back to work tomorrow for a rest Cheers, Ade.
  7. A tiny bit of modelling now. Just painted and added the lens to the Modelu GWR tail lamps I bought at Warley. I need to buy the side lamps too... Cheers, Ade.
  8. Hi Phil, personally I like the shrub and foliage flower beds best. But all are good. I think I would repaint the sign in black, as you can see some grey areas showing through. Cheers, Ade.
  9. Hi Simon, for a split second I thought you had my cat Patch! Except he only has one eye. He weighed in at his annual checkup with the Vet last week at 5.3kgs. A Loriot is on my shopping list for the New Year. Cheers, Ade.
  10. Hi Dan, glad you have ordered the book, it will not disappoint. I am planning on moving in January. Hi Phil, LOL! At the moment I am just running the extension cable to the cabin from the outside socket. I only heat it when I am in there at the moment, but will have some wall mounted heaters with WiFi timers installed. A single 2000kw electric heater really warms it up. Today I have been painted again. Got the front done and the two thirds of the window wall done. I have also fitted the fascia board at the far end. Cheers, Ade.
  11. Hi Phil, I look forwards to seeing more tomorrow. Cheers, Ade.
  12. Hi Chris, I know you are a perfectionist and I suffer from the same condition as my old Mum always used to tell me. But it looks fine and by the time the roof is weathered it will be great. Cheers, Ade.
  13. More adventures in 12 inch to the foot. Being blessed with some dry days, the roof is now finished! Just the fascia boards to fit tomorrow. The first coat of paint done on the far end. It felt very cold, despite the sun being out. Warming up now by a roaring fire with a cup of tea. Feeling pleased with the work I have got done this past few days. Cheers, Ade.
  14. Hi Phil, loving the City of Truro. Was this a kit you built yourself? Cheers, Ade.
  15. Getting paid for doing your hobby is brilliant. My other hobby is militaria and I have been doing that for a living for 5 years at Hansons auctioneers. Cannot beat it. Cheers, Ade.
  16. Hi Dan, thanks for the kind comments. Yes, Mike's book covers all about Great Summerford and Dauntsey with plans of the line and photos of the stations, bridges etc. The book is my "bible". It would be well worth you seeking out a copy. Hope to get some real modelling done in the New Year. The cabin build has been a long slog! Cheers, Ade.
  17. Hope everyone is having a great Christmas? Having done the family visits over the past two days, Lez and I were on our own today. So while Lez caught up on her Soap's, I had a good day painting in the cabin. Pleased to say all the walls are now finished! Just the window frames to paint now. Then various trim bits can be added. My next indoor task will be to add the legs to the baseboards. I can also now start to think about blinds, electrics, floor coverings, etc. Lez has bought me two security cameras with WiFi connection to my phone so I can keeps tabs on everything. Just need some dry weather now (!) to get the outside finished. Cheers, Ade.
  18. A few years to be sure. But never had a problem and 100% feedback. But I buy stuff every few months. Cheers, Ade.
  19. Hi Guys, thanks for the comments. I work at Hansons Auctioneers and at our place you get the proceeds of the sale, which are paid either by BACS or cheque (client choice) after 20 working days. This allows us to get the money in and the client to get the item and ensure everything is OK. This waiting time is clearly explained before anyone signs on the dotted line and as well as being printed on the back of their receipt they are given a separate slip with all the relevant % costs, payment date, etc. What annoyed me was the lack of information that this could happen. I don't mind going through with a deal provided I have all the relevant info beforehand. What really concerns me is I have to post the item out before I have the money in my account. Cheers, Ade.
  20. Thanks guys. Yes the money is in my account "on hold". Cheers Ade.
  21. Looking good. I like the way that it all runs downwards. I think so may people forget the basics that any weathering runs down on a wagon/loco. Cheers, Ade.
