  1. Can it be possible to bluetooth connect the locomotive speakers / sound chip to a cinema surround system, with speakers strategically positioned around the track? If you can't 'get enough bass' from that, then ..... I'll remain polite!! Just an idea I'm sure has been broached in the past. Al.
  2. I agree with that as well. It is a modelling forum and it's nice to see what has been done. I'm certain Rob means no harm. I suppose it may revert to, perhaps, a Railway Art section, where such adapted, modified images can be freely aired. I had no problems. I can understand where others are coming from as well. Al.
  3. They're adjusted photos of the models, to better agree with the original article - locomotive or whatever. People post their specific models without any change - so in addition to Rails, Colletts, Hattons' et al sources of original photos, as well as Ebay, there's still the 'happy new owners'. Rob adding on the same thread certainly doesn't 'annoy' me in the slightest - if I want to see what the actual model looks like, I'll 'Google' it anyway. There is credence to a 'Rob's Own Thread', I won't disagree, but it's like casting somebody out for having skills way beyond our own. The fact there are physical limitations as well just increases the understanding of what skills Rob has. For me, the door's wide open that he continues - each to his/her ... Al.
  4. It's going to rain over the weekend - leave it out. It'll be fine by Monday .... Joking aside, as we're all a little tired already I think ... it is something we have to be very careful of. I would definitely wipe down the outer packaging, remove wearing gloves and invert the packaging then dispose of it with the gloves - or simply ensure you wash your hands immediately if bare handed. The thing is to avoid touching your face, particularly mouth and nose. Internally, it depends how Hattons' staff handled them. Is it 1 hour, 5 hours, 10 hours, 1 day? Which materials? I've had from 2 hours to 5 days for plastic surfaces alone. Once you do open it, you will find one superb locomotive. Al.
  5. I would like to see a load test of the model - perhaps with 4-wheeled wagons. Should go to 100+ I reckon if the wagons stay on!! Al.
  6. It is a superb model. Appearance, detailing and performance - simply outstanding. If 'retrospect' is required, perhaps more thought could have been put into the general maintenance and servicing aspects, which let's face it apart from at the start perhaps, are not that often. I simply mean that relatively easy and reliable access could be gained to the gubbins without a 'high ping risk'. Al.
  7. I'm certain there are some fantastic modelling skills which can correct this. I don't have this skill level, if it were me. I would contact Hattons, show the photos, and basically push for a return / replacement. You didn't pay for the extra glue, nor the missing AB - these can all be resolved I'm sure.
  8. Just a little adhesion required. Can you sit on the 14xx? Al.
  9. I realise my reaction was a bit strong. Nice comment from Rob D2 - they are RTR. It's a pity. I've literally not noticed any similar problems on basically any of the Bachmann locomotives I have - which I don't want to count but 50+ will be close. They look a typically excellent locomotive looking at the pictures. Al.
  10. In the relatively short time I've been on this forum I've always enjoyed your presentations - enhanced images - Rob. They show real insight and skill. I don't see what the problem is. If people don't want to see them, there are plenty of other threads on the forum. Al.
  11. Hi Tim, Difficult times at the moment, so not certain of 'when', but contact Customer Services wrt the AB - they are very helpful. Al.
  12. I stand by my original 'reaction' to their declaration and proposal. VERY CORRECT IN CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES. WELL DONE HATTONS. Al.
  13. This is very unusual from my relatively limited - last 3 years and perhaps 50 locomotives - experience of Bachmann. The locomotive looks to have typical Bachmann crisp moulding and running characteristics, but the QC is out of the window - totally hopeless. Sounds more like poor production design than hamfisted handling in packaging and dispatch. That's one locomotive I'll steer well away with until somebody else does one. Didn't think I'd ever write something like that about Bachmann - I've LOADS of their diesels, an electric, and MANY steam locomotives. Poorer motors and lack of bearings in the steam locomotives aside, they're all superb locomotives. Al.
  14. Just a question. When you go out - and I don't mean the 20,000 on Brighton beach approach either - are you VERY aware of others around you, if walking down the road, or indeed when in a Supermarket? The answer is probably YES. When you receive a package, no matter what - letter, parcel, etc - are you taking similar precautions? I have been for at least 2 weeks, wiping down with alcohol wipes. I'm fairly certain not many others do this. This COULD be a way of 'unfortunate and avoidable transmission of virus', so whilst the manner and wording may appear to have been a bit primadonna-like in 'I think therefore we all should do', the initiative I believe is VERY sound. Just seeing those photos of people in tube trains, on the beach, on the common in SUCH LARGE NUMBERS was irresponsible - let's move on from that and eradicate this virus. Hopefully, we will all get through this. I sincerely hope so, but I also believe waiting another 2 months to ensure we're all safe is MUCH more important than the 'I must have that part now' mentality some still appear to have. WELL DONE HATTONS AND THANK YOU. Alan.
  15. Trust me, get Hattons to fit the sound chip, or purchase the locomotive already fitted. There's so much detailing you have to take care of, you WILL lose something!! 3 of the 4 under-cab steps pinged on mine, when removing the body ... apparently there is YT guidance on this somewhere. Al.
  16. That's only a 2nd run of H4-66-001 to H4-66-031. It doesn't seem to include H4-66-032 (Flying Dustman) onwards. If this is true, it will miss the last date before 'non-urgent deliveries lockdown'. Al.
  17. You'll need a big Christmas tree for that one!! Nice. Al.
  18. 'Grown Up' is a relative thing ... and I don't relate to it!! Al.
  19. I'm totally lost with all of the variations and fine tuning. I ordered one from the first announcement, and am patiently waiting. Perhaps if/when I get a chance, I'll look through and study the variations. Any consideration for a West Coast iteration? Al.
  20. Aren't there 'dip switches'? Any chance one or more may have changed position? Mine's been perfect since I received it last year. Al.

My lad's loving it!! Dot-to-dot Mallard looked OK. A1 is next. Jumbled letters has got me on a couple!! (Then I realised the answers were inverted and micro-sized!!) Al.
  22. That aside, and very minor, the 'Blue Box' one is a gem - I have one - looks great and superb runner. Hornby's Hall is very nice, but if I remember was 'brake rod ready' but didn't come with them - and when I purchased a Hall, none were available anywhere - sort of pointless having the mounts. Al.
  23. Is the door shape beneath the middle window supposed to be doors like they are on the Bachmann? Al.
  24. Rising a bit today ... ALL markets will be very 'variable' until this thing blows over, so I wouldn't worry about exchange rates too much. Al.
