  1. Once you get the alignment OK, and ensure they're clean - perhaps check the wires are OK as well? - it should be more reliable than you're implying. Al.
  2. I thought that the announcement was going to be there's a Class 40 coming ... would be nice !! Al.
  3. @Dicky L what lets the video down is there's no exhaust fumes, nor permanent way personnel ... Basically looks / sounds so good, you're looking for more details again!! Excellent job, and still a fantastic locomotive by Hattons, warts and all. Al.
  4. I used Araldite 2-pack. The main problem is ensuring the alignment is absolutely as straight as possible - and better to slightly enlarge the hole to limit the possibilities of it happening again. There is little 'purchase' on the axle stub, so ensure the axle is perfectly clean, and the inside of the AB cleaned of residue, whilst not enlarging - could end up offset. Al.
  5. A lot of these phishing scams - some not necessarily incorrect - are extremely clever, and using familiar terms, not just names and contacts. Always better not to use any email 'links'. Al.
  6. How do the contact 'fingers' line up - can a few adjustments be made? Some have hard wired in the past. I got lucky with a Super Detail 56 I purchased 2nd hand as 'faulty lights' from Hattons a couple of years ago, and simply had to re-align the contact fingers after a little clean. Al.
  7. I kind of get the impression its an assumed prerequisite - the detailing will be superb, the quality is yet to be seen. We've already seen another 'manufacturer's brave attempt' getting some harsh-but-fair press - let's hope this one strikes gold with no issues ... as is anticipated ... no pressure of course!! Al.
  8. Troublesome tankers - Thomas updated for A/S Deltics then!! Al.
  9. I'd love to see that fully prepared, yet strangely it almost looks too good to paint! Fantastic looking model / replica. Al.
  10. PLEASE REMOVE - duplicated post.
  11. For release dates, RoS state this for the W1: Expected: Winter 2020-2021 For the A2/2: 2020 Range. Release date not indicated. TBH I always anticipated these during Christmas / New Year 2020 / 2021. Al.
  12. I remember Irma hitting Mexico - we've an office site there ... hit quite hard!! Al.
  13. Attention to detail there Fran - excellent. I hope the locomotive is as fitting of this as the sounds are - which it does appear to be. Still waiting!! Al. PS Still no consideration for a 40? It would tie in nicely, between the 37 and the 55 .... just saying!!
  14. It did sound just like I remember that 55 in Lime Street warming up for the Trans-Pennine thrash to Newcastle 40 years ago - seriously still remember it - brilliant sound, 'though not so certain of the plumes nearly hitting the roof cowling of Lime St !! Al.
  15. I've heard this, but I've got my 50 out at the moment. It was pretty fast, but I hadn't 'cleaned and lubed' for a while, so did so. The very smooth and quiet locomotive is now nearly totally silent and REALLY fast - nearly as fast as my very healthy Virgin Class 43 Super Detail - which is REALLY fast!! It's nearly flinging the coaches off the 4th radius circular test track I have - that's with 11 coaches! Fan's great and looks great. I've yet to encounter this negative often mentioned - hopefully I never will as I love it! Al.
  16. Fran, can't trust anyone these days!! Someone's nicked the buffers! Al.
  17. That's something I've often wondered about - getting one of those PC cooling fans - must be something small enough ... perhaps. Al.
  18. Pity about the fans - I like that feature and yes, I'm aware many don't. Great prices there - 'special order' at Colletts. Al.
  19. I still prefer the Powerhaul livery. Al.
  20. It seems that the vast majority of 'Hornby's best ever models' are kettles - and I've nothing against that at all - there are some wonderful models. I feel more mention should be made to some of the fantastic 'Modern Image' locomotives they make / have made as well. Opening main line of OP #1: "Which of Hornby's RTR 00 models is best?" Here's a vote for my Class 50, D421 - what an absolutely incredible model - Hoover in real life, super-smooth rocket as a model ... REALLY!! It's always been so smooth and quiet, I hadn't realised a little more attention had been required. One of those pesky buffer ladders was annoying me - wrong angle and a bit wobbly ... fixed now. I decided a little clean and 'general lube all over' including the motor and shafts was required ... What was a super smooth, not totally silent, fast-ish locomotive has become near-silent, smoother again and ... WOW ... it must run nearly as fast as my Super Detail HST - which is VERY fast ... if I really push it, which isn't necessary, and is frankly a tad dangerous!! What a superb model - here's to the Hornby Hoovers!! Yes, I love the opening doors and rotating fan as well ... I know many have misgivings, but each to his / her own. Al.
  21. Did I read those immortal words "rotating axlebox hubs"? Have you observed / encountered any difficulties with these - not bringing to mind any other particular product of course? !!! Al.
  22. Fantastically well detailed model, but still cannot make my mind up if I like the styling - more Marmite than Marmite itself!! Al.
