  1. I realise my reaction was a bit strong. Nice comment from Rob D2 - they are RTR. It's a pity. I've literally not noticed any similar problems on basically any of the Bachmann locomotives I have - which I don't want to count but 50+ will be close. They look a typically excellent locomotive looking at the pictures. Al.
  2. In the relatively short time I've been on this forum I've always enjoyed your presentations - enhanced images - Rob. They show real insight and skill. I don't see what the problem is. If people don't want to see them, there are plenty of other threads on the forum. Al.
  3. Hi Tim, Difficult times at the moment, so not certain of 'when', but contact Customer Services wrt the AB - they are very helpful. Al.
  4. I stand by my original 'reaction' to their declaration and proposal. VERY CORRECT IN CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES. WELL DONE HATTONS. Al.
  5. This is very unusual from my relatively limited - last 3 years and perhaps 50 locomotives - experience of Bachmann. The locomotive looks to have typical Bachmann crisp moulding and running characteristics, but the QC is out of the window - totally hopeless. Sounds more like poor production design than hamfisted handling in packaging and dispatch. That's one locomotive I'll steer well away with until somebody else does one. Didn't think I'd ever write something like that about Bachmann - I've LOADS of their diesels, an electric, and MANY steam locomotives. Poorer motors and lack of bearings in the steam locomotives aside, they're all superb locomotives. Al.
  6. Just a question. When you go out - and I don't mean the 20,000 on Brighton beach approach either - are you VERY aware of others around you, if walking down the road, or indeed when in a Supermarket? The answer is probably YES. When you receive a package, no matter what - letter, parcel, etc - are you taking similar precautions? I have been for at least 2 weeks, wiping down with alcohol wipes. I'm fairly certain not many others do this. This COULD be a way of 'unfortunate and avoidable transmission of virus', so whilst the manner and wording may appear to have been a bit primadonna-like in 'I think therefore we all should do', the initiative I believe is VERY sound. Just seeing those photos of people in tube trains, on the beach, on the common in SUCH LARGE NUMBERS was irresponsible - let's move on from that and eradicate this virus. Hopefully, we will all get through this. I sincerely hope so, but I also believe waiting another 2 months to ensure we're all safe is MUCH more important than the 'I must have that part now' mentality some still appear to have. WELL DONE HATTONS AND THANK YOU. Alan.
  7. Trust me, get Hattons to fit the sound chip, or purchase the locomotive already fitted. There's so much detailing you have to take care of, you WILL lose something!! 3 of the 4 under-cab steps pinged on mine, when removing the body ... apparently there is YT guidance on this somewhere. Al.
  8. That's only a 2nd run of H4-66-001 to H4-66-031. It doesn't seem to include H4-66-032 (Flying Dustman) onwards. If this is true, it will miss the last date before 'non-urgent deliveries lockdown'. Al.
  9. You'll need a big Christmas tree for that one!! Nice. Al.
  10. 'Grown Up' is a relative thing ... and I don't relate to it!! Al.
  11. I'm totally lost with all of the variations and fine tuning. I ordered one from the first announcement, and am patiently waiting. Perhaps if/when I get a chance, I'll look through and study the variations. Any consideration for a West Coast iteration? Al.
  12. Aren't there 'dip switches'? Any chance one or more may have changed position? Mine's been perfect since I received it last year. Al.

My lad's loving it!! Dot-to-dot Mallard looked OK. A1 is next. Jumbled letters has got me on a couple!! (Then I realised the answers were inverted and micro-sized!!) Al.
  14. That aside, and very minor, the 'Blue Box' one is a gem - I have one - looks great and superb runner. Hornby's Hall is very nice, but if I remember was 'brake rod ready' but didn't come with them - and when I purchased a Hall, none were available anywhere - sort of pointless having the mounts. Al.
  15. Is the door shape beneath the middle window supposed to be doors like they are on the Bachmann? Al.
  16. Rising a bit today ... ALL markets will be very 'variable' until this thing blows over, so I wouldn't worry about exchange rates too much. Al.
  17. I'm amazed at the detailing present on the originals ... impressive allowing for the time. Agreed, saying 'touching up' is an insult - should hold exhibitions of your artwork - if you haven't already. Al.
  18. Trust me, they're one loco you can't 'over weather' and look better for it. Just look wrong when pristine!! One of my all-time Hornby favourites - under-cab pipes aside. Al.
  19. Perhaps, but if the person's saying he drives past, then it's a 'convenient option' - pay, get a PIN, enter plus car reg plus time ... or something convenient ... et voila. We're in totally uncharted waters, and packaging for Royal Mail, DPD, or similar means handing to others, to others, who might ... Al.
  20. Can you call near, agree a PIN, exchange, they depose in a defined area in plain sight, you collect and confirm receipt? Possible option? Al.
  21. Just last week I 'won' an excellent, used EWS Bachmann 37 from a certain shop in Sheffield - missing the nameplates for <£80!! Loco's absolutely perfect - well weathered now!! I also 'won' a superb, used 45593 Kolhapur - un-opened detail pack, no chip, speaker intact, one handrail missing on tender - replaced for £75!! Al.
  22. Are non-Hornby items permitted here? Al.
  23. I can't find my record of it, but I purchased the Crosti 'Railroad' (it's somewhere in-between I reckon!) 2-10-0. I'm certain it was less than £90 purchased new. Al.
  24. I purchased a 'faulty' EWS Super Detail Class 56 a year ago. All was perfect with perhaps a few little problems with the lighting. A little research on the contacts between body and chassis and it's been totally faultless ever since - including the lights. Price was very reasonable. Standard postage always selected by me - 2-3 days maximum. A used item is simply that - never know just how the previous owner has handled and treated it - don't expect it to be new. Choice is yours. Not certain then don't push the button - look elsewhere - simples. This thread is more about 'new items on sale'. Same concept applies. If you don't like it, check out other sites. Al.
