  1. If we're looking at 'old super detail' then the rebuilt Merchant Navy locomotives are overdue .... Al.
  2. This is definitely one of those rare beasts which is 'so extreme' it's a definite must have - biggest, most powerful - always a justification somewhere!! Who doesn't want to see 'how many' they can haul as well? 😄 Even if sat in a siding much of the time, the immense size just dwarfs 'normal' medium-sized locomotives. Al.
  3. I'd still prefer a Parallel Scot, or a Jubilee - it's only one locomotive 'with variants'. The Hornby 8F still looks good - but doesn't haul that much!
  4. Fran's hint was 'plenty of variants', so if larger, surely it just has to be a Jubilee? Al.
  5. I'm more a West Coast than East Coast fan, yet have models of 'both sides'. I left the LMS Garratt, but had been hoping one day somebody would build the 'British Big Daddy', and finally they're going to. I've pre-ordered one - just had to!! Al.
  6. This promises to be a fantastic model!! Must admit I've pre-ordered a predictable option - Gordon of course. I just thought something so relatively different and waited for needed to stand out a little - my loco. Fantastic surprise for me today - never saw this one coming! Al.
  7. The Great Bear would be an interesting option I reckon - bit of an interesting novelty, like Decapod and Big Bertha. Al.
  8. I'm still holding out for a parallel boiler Scot, Jubilee / options and of course .... the Class 40 !! Al.
  9. Within my list of 'options' to consider in the past, I have mentioned the ex-LNER U1 2-8-0 + 0-8-2. Heljan have just announced this, so I'll have to withdraw this new model request!! Another of 'my list' to remove!! Clark Railworks are going to produce the WD 2-10-0 !! Both of these are excellent selections. Al.
  10. Did the message specifically state the origin and/or contents? Al.
  11. Fantastic job by that Raspberry chappie !! Looks superb. Al.
  12. I generally find PayPal very reliable - the only problems I've had is when purchasing off Amazon. The 'developing world' are fantastic at creating markets which perhaps shouldn't exist, and presumably they don't have the controls limiting such activities which we do over here. I hope you didn't lose your funds and all is available for more lovely locomotives. Still waiting on news of the new Accurascale Parallel Scots and Class 40's .... just a little dig .... 😄 Al.
  13. If unsure, just give Leigh a call. That's what I've done with mine. Al.
  14. Some of the aftermarket fire flicker installations I've made have been quite bright ... but ... when I look at videos of 46100 Royal Scot, etc., on tours going into the evenings, they're VERY bright! I wonder if the footplate crew need sunglasses to operate them at times!! Al.
  15. I was concerned how much vibration it may introduce - doesn't look to be centred in the photo. Al.
  16. One contributor mentioned the different 'colours' used by Hornby on the boiler and cab, then later concluded it was probably the paint finish. I have Railtec Matt, Satin and Gloss brush on lacquers. I have found the Satin close to Matt - just a touch of sheen on it so went straight to a very thin covering of the Gloss. It's very slightly too shiny, but the difference is obvious. It'd be difficult to show up with simple photos but I can confirm ... it works! I just painted the C.L. on the cab roof. Al.
  17. Has anyone noticed a slight chaffing of the centre driver boss paint? I believe it'll be from where the coupling rod is articulated. It doesn't seem to affect the performance, which is super smooth, so must be very very slightly catching. I'll just have to live with it. Al.
  18. Scouring YT this afternoon I came across a vid D213 in green looking absolutely splendid ..... Just a little mention .... 🙃
  19. OK, if you saw 5 BR blue diesels side-by-side, at the time, it would be a rare occasion for them to all look the same. Putting a B&Q tester on them would show quite a few variations I'm sure. Al.
  20. If you were operating a Heritage Railway, and a 78xxx was the 'star attraction', would you 'bling it up' the amount Hornby have, or sought alternative 'faded metal' looks to the brightwork? Al.
  21. Thanks for the reply OB. Mine hinges perfectly as well but wouldn't want to open/close too often as CB intimated. It would have also been nice to have a bit of a hollow under that flap, even piping, not just totally flush. I know the chassis' just there, but some effort would have helped. Al.
  22. I quite like Marmite ... perhaps it's the beer it was a by-product of .... QUESTION: Apologies if already clarified, but what is the reason for the 'opening flap' at the front? Al.
  23. The pricepoint is seen as justification to not limit lamp location - understood and agreed. Can it not be possible to have reliably removable / replaceable lamps depending on rake to be hauled? Al.
  24. I saw / heard him in a concert with his son at New Brighton perhaps 10-15 years ago - absolutely fantastic! Al.
