  1. When were these locomotives last in service? 36 to 40 years of age they are, but I would imagine they served nowhere near that.
  2. Not to disagree with your message, but R40357 appears to be 3 coaches instead of 2? 1. Wellington 2. Globe 3. Queen Adelaide's coach
  3. Might be worth sending the link to Margate. They seem to be the one oblivious to the cost of living crisis since they can't price their products adequately. I struggle to name another model railway manufacturer who *quietly* increased the price by 20% halfway through pre-order. If you can't foresee future circumstances, just set the price as TBA until you can. If you announced a pre-order price, stick to it. That's how every other manufacturer does it, but I suppose Hornby wants to maintain their uniqueness in the industry. If you really have to impose a price increase halfway through pre-order, maybe at least try to speak to your customers? I don't know whether they contacted those who already pre-ordered it as I'm not one of those people, but they certainly don't want to communicate to their potential customers i.e. those who haven't pre-ordered it.
  4. Thanks for the heads up. Is this Hornby's standard practice now? Announce a pre-order item and up the price by 20% (or 10% twice) before it arrives into stock. What purpose does it serve, other than to highlight their incompetence in pricing their own products?
  5. Regarding Green Arrow, this is the response from Anthony Coulls, Senior Curator at NRM: From the comments section of this video.
  6. The Hornby Class 66 and Hattons Class 66 are not duplicates at all, the specifications and level of detail are too different (the price too). The two models obviously target different customers, therefore shouldn't be considered as duplicates. Same for Hornby vs Bachmann Classes 20, 37, 40, 47, 57
  7. How many people are still excited by the Hornby Standard 2MT and can talk about it constantly? How many people are still excited about the Dapol N gauge Bulleid Light Pacific which was announced how many decades ago? Your Alfa was delayed by months, but look at these. And I assume Alfa kept you up to date during those months, unlike some people whom I won't mention their names. And I wonder how many people didn't "meh" when their Dapol Class 59 arrived after a 7-year-or-so wait.
  8. In one case, people are constantly asking because they are very excited and want the models to arrive earlier, despite fully knowing the models will arrive on the same date no matter how hard they ask. In the other case, people probably are tired of asking, lost hope, lost trust, lost interest - the excitement just isn't there. When the models arrive, it's a moment where you yawn and say "Oh, it's here" and then back to working on other stuff.
  9. Now I'm confused. I can't understand how Bulleid can rhyme with succeed on the first syllable. Isn't it simply pronounced the same as "bullied"?
  10. That is true only if the fictional variants are overproduced by quite a lot and end up in the bargain bin, otherwise if they sell at the same price and at a similar speed, there is no reason why fictional variants give you a less lucrative return.
  11. Don't forget the Intercity Swallow Class 92 ;) it would sit just right alongside IC Swallow Classes 86, 87, 89, 90 and 91. The IC Swallow Deltic will look at home with Swallow Classes 37, 43 and 47 (perhaps even a 40).

  13. The visible chassis block? Assuming Dapol will correct it.
  14. Year of tooling (info from Hattons) 28XX - 2010 42/52/72XX - 2013 King - 2016 Not a GWR expert, but I'm curious why you prioritise retooling two 2013 and 2016 models over a 2010 model. Are you somewhat contradicting yourself, or are the King and 2-8-0Ts really that bad?
  15. I have been put off by the Hornby one due to its visible chassis block, so this is a nice announcement. Dapol seems to be on a GWR trend - Mogul, Large Prairie, Manor, 2800/2884, what's next?
  16. Wait, isn't it a club exclusive? So how does a retailer get allocations? (Or is it an obvious joke?)
  17. Instead of "God Save the King", the speaker could've played the "invitation" to swear allegiance to King Charles. Now wouldn't that be patriotic? Anyways thanks Hornby for providing the laugh of the day.
  18. A quick search on Flickr also gives you these - 3 states of 92038 (Flickr links, not my pics) 1 - With roundels, hauling Mk3's 2 - Without roundels, hauling Mk3's 3 - Without roundels, hauling Mk5's Haven't seen 92038 (or indeed any 92) hauling Mk5's with roundels. However, I'm more than happy to be corrected and learn more on this issue if there is evidence. And even Accurascale themselves are running 92038 with roundels with their Mk5's. So it's really not that big of a deal. https://www.facebook.com/AccurascaleUK/posts/pfbid0uCtNvzzPwWXsZb95ppYGUBUAjw7VBzUV7wESeAxGBqX7nSrXkJKzqQuWjJMmPEqyl
  19. Bear in mind that both the 93 and 99 can run on diesel while the 92 can't. The case of the 92 does seem slightly different to the case of the 60. When the 60's were abandoned, 66's and 70's, which perform similar tasks, were brought in; but when the 92's were abandoned, I don't think any new electric locomotives had been introduced. With electric freight trains handled by 86's and 90's, what jobs would've been suitable for the 92's?
  20. They currently have 27 92010 left. There are quite a lot of photos and videos online where people run their 92038 with CS Mk5 stock. I suppose they either aren't aware or don't mind the slight inaccuracy in doing that. As for Bart, it's gone from a Kernow exclusive to a Kernow and Accurascale exclusive to a Kernow and Accurascale and Rails exclusive :p
  21. The original poster said own range. Of course if you count narrow gauge it's a different story.
  22. When was the last one? Was it the Gresley V2? Even that took a few years from announcement to arrival.
