  1. It looks like a Zimo, but if you read CV250 thru 253 and it is a Zimo, that'll give you which one it is.
  2. If all else fails, Digitrains and probably others sell an adapter board that you solder to from the safety of your work bench.
  3. I have some of those wires/plugs/sockets that Pete mentioned, but I've used 32G wire because it's quite a bit more flexible. I've made various Zimo decoders fit into spaces either in the tender or loco or a combination of these along with speakers and stay alives. I haven't used any plugs and sockets but have soldered the connections either end so there's no chance of losing the juice. You'd probably be surprised how quickly you can get pretty adept at soldering if you get some decent kit.
  4. I usually need help with things like this.
  5. You'll need a bridge rectifier (or make one with 4 diodes) if you're collecting the power from the track. You'll also need to make sure that the cap' is not only connected the right way round, but also has some voltage headroom. I've set the volts on my Lenz kit to 12.5 so I can use 16v caps.
  6. Another way if you want to do it is to use a DPDT slide switch with a wire attached that operates the point while the switch changes polarity.
  7. Well I thought I'd have a look at 'profile', but it's nowhere to be found. I can't find 'debug' either.
  8. Yes I stay logged in too. As I said, no drama. Thanks anyway.
  9. Thanks for that. I've done that but it looks as though I'll only get the bell. No great drama, I'll just have to login every day. You can imagine how upsetting that is.
  10. I bet I've missed it because I can't find a way to get email notifications on post's that I've either created or are following. I'd appreciate a bit of help/
  11. Sorry to be so long replying... hospital appointments. You have to be tough to get old.🙁 I'll have a look at profiles, but not sure what I can do once I'm in there.
  12. Thanks all. I'll do as suggested and update DP when they become available. I updated from 4.25 to 5.0 and then to 5.2 as suggested on the DP page but after each one, I started off as a new user. I did manage to get all my files back from the backup, But I'm sure this wasn't the case years ago when I last went to v4.24.
  13. Thanks Nigel, I managed to blindly stumble through things what were alien to me and with your advice, I now have JRE11 and DP 5.2. One more question. I did look for a list of decoder definitions that I could download and use, but couldn't work out where to go for them. I did find your list of MS decoders that you've written, but couldn't find how to download them if I need to. Luckily the update to DP 5.2 has put them on there, but I might need to use more as and when they come out.
  14. I hope this is in the right place. I'm using a Win10 small laptop and have all my loco's on there. I've recently bought some MS decoders and wondered if there are any specific files for them on DP/JMRI. I'm on JMRI v4.25 and can't go any higher because for some reason JRE thinks I haven't got Java v11 which I do have. Anyway, that's no problem if I can get any new decoder definitions whether MS or MX on this version. I'd appreciate some help with this, remembering that I'm not that good with computers.
  15. How many years ago? It might only be a small capacitance to stop the sound cutting out on a dirty piece of track. You can now buy stay alive units (I use Kung Fu brand) with much more storage. I have a class 40 as well and it's not fitted with a stay alive as it has such good current collection from the wheels, so maybe not worth bothering about.
  16. The first thing I'd do is a reset. Only then start looking for faults.
  17. Any idea what the title was? I've looked through the "DCC sound" forum but couldn't find it.
  18. I know I'm late in repyling to this topic, but I've just re-joined. If these decoders have Paul Chetters sound files on them then you should be able to find them on the Digitrains website. All the functions and their keys will be listed there.
  19. I've only very recently re-joined so missed that. Sounds interesting.
  20. I use Peco live frog points and crossings. I've used fuse wire connected between the stock rail and point blade as well as setting the blades dead centre and then soldering the pivot point solid. .032" operating wire for the motors and both methods are still going strong. I suppose you could use the latter method with solenoid motors, but you'd need a bit of trial and error.
  21. As Iain Morrison said. It's a case of getting what you pay for. Legomanbiffo would, I think have sent you an ESU decoder. That would explain the difference in performance.
  22. If, as you say, price is not a problem, have a look at Zimo, but make sure you're sitting down first.
