  1. My understanding is the smokebox is fixed at the front and the firebox slides when the boiler expands/contacts. The cab is fixed to the footplate and is not fixed to the boiler. This would make trying to compare gaps between the tip of the "V" and the second boiler band unreliable.
  2. This official suggests they were in line with the cab.. And no to the GA showing it forward.
  3. Photo of Bittern as preserved: GA lists thickness as 3/16".
  4. Being aware of the previous conversations regarding the cab "V" on A4 I took this photo of Mallard at the NRM:
  5. To stop bleeding under the washer could you file a bevel around the edge of the face that butts up against the side? Also worth considering making custom transfers for the corners.
  6. I split the carriage down into 3 parts, body, interior and underframe. Two mechanisms are employed depending on accessability, screwing the parts together with a M2 steel countersunk screws and tab and slot locators. The interior is trapped between the body and underframe (my initial approach was to print interior and underframe as one unit but now prefer them be separate). Pictures paint a thousand words so: The holes that take the screws are printed undersized and enlarged with the correct drill prior to running a M2 tap through them. When assembled the whole thing is very solid and warping minimised. I use Anycubic standard grey resin. I put together a small prototype to test the principal (the central holes were not used):
  7. The model you refer to in the previous post has black handrails as viewing the other images would confirm.
  8. Chances are you have some errors in the Blender model. Make sure that the model is manifold and then check the "normals" are correctly orientation. I use an early version of Blender so the following may not be correct. Open the stl in blender by importing it. Select the van then go into edit mode. Choose vertices mode and ensure no vertices are currently selected. From the "Select" menu choose "Select all by Trait" and "Non-Manifold" If any vertices are highlighted you have problems with the model. For the Normals switch the view to "Faces" then select all faces ("A") then select "Mesh", "Normals" and "Recalculate Outside" Worth doing the non manifold test again just to check all is well.
  9. Both. One end is crossing (frog on the tool) and t'other the switch blades (point on the tool). https://www.handlaidtrack.com//assets/downloads/ug10.pdf
  10. Can I suggest you investigate eSun Hard Tough resin. Normal resin is very brittle. The eSun resin can be machined if necessary.
  11. A sign on the door of the shop tells us that the shop is now closed and business will only be done via exhibitions, the internet and telephone orders. Shame.
  12. This might be more than you are prepared to pay but does provide other upgrade parts for the V2 to help improve its appearance:
  13. For those with Mono Xs, Anycubic have released a new firmware release (3.5.4) which it is claimed resolves the working of AA. Unfortunately I am not in a position to test this for the foreseeable future so would be interested in any other's experience with it.
  14. The front smokebox door hinges are also missing the distinctive "horns" that limit the opening: In fairness to Gilbert I guess we should be commenting on this model in a Bachmann thread rather than clutter up Peterborough North.
  15. The original Hornby Gresley's were introduced at a time they also introduced GWR, LMS and SR coaches using the same underframes, interiors and bogies. Only the bodies and ends were region specific. From memory the models were all fitted with BR Mk1 bogies. At a later point in time Hornby produced and fitted more accurate Gresley style bogies. I suspect if you search for them on ebay you will find some.
  16. I have passed this on to the person who might have more details regarding their recovery.
  17. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I agree it is definitely some form of trigger mechanism. It is the curved mounting brackets that have me scratching my head.
