  1. I don't know young Jeff you raise my hopes and then you cast them aside without so much of a care. What's wrong with bright pink I think it would be magnificent.
  2. So it's not going to be bright pink with yellow polka dots.
  3. Oh can it be bright pink with yellow polka dots please
  4. Mr Bear I have more than a sneaking suspicion that el doctorie will be at the front door of the hovel ready to greet you with a pickaxe handle behind his back - that is of course if you manage to negotiate his minions and the minefield(s).
  5. Now you see to me that looks sandy to me but I suppose to each there own.
  6. I believe there's a button for that - clap ham. Yes I know I'll get my coat.
  7. Jeff don't forget what I said about taking into account the difference in appearance between what you see know and the period you are modelling. Any weathering that we see today is the accumulation of hundred years plus. So what it actually looked like then will be different. My guess would be somewhat lighter in colour. Cheers Ian
  8. Re my earlier statement about changing the name of this thread to cooking with H. I think a better title might be 'cooking & brewing with the Hippo' or C B H for catchiness.
  9. Good heaven's a council actually responding to a 'customer' other epithets are available such as; idiot, money cow and ratepayer. The women will not last, she must have been new and not have gone on the induction/indoctrination training.
  10. I might be wrong, not uncommon I hear you say at the back, but I thought the pub name 'Lamb & Flag' was related to the navy. Lamb being a brand of rum and flag being the white ensign. Correct me if wrong.
  11. Scientists have noticed for some time that the magnetic north pole has been drifting progressively to the south and is actually somewhere in Canada. At some point they expect it to completely flip so north will be south and south will be north. So actually if the Bear is in Herts he is only confirming a scientific fact.
  12. This is rapidly turning into a cookery channel. Perhaps we should rename it; Scoffing with Hippo or perhaps Chomping with H.
  13. Not what you would call an essential journey. Where's that covid hot line number again.
  14. Express passenger service. From Little Muddle to Little Muddle leaving at 10.21 am and arriving at 10.23 am.
  15. A query please. Does the cake delivery operate on a just in time principal or rather is the cake delivered on mass. If the just in time approach is taken wouldn't there be the horrifying possibility of a snaff eroo occurring and Bear and Hippo being faced with no cake. Just a horrible thought.
  16. Jeff while in no way wishing to impugn your modelling abilities one of my fellow Gillers/headers/devoted followers?? - other descriptive terms are available did raise an interesting point, namely time setting. I appreciate that a considerable amount of discussion occurs about ensuring the features are correct for a time period but what about their appearance. I'm thinking here about what Arten Gill would have looked like. More knowledgeable contributors than I will be able to confirm dates but I'm wondering what it would have looked like say 50 years or less after its construction. Yes there would have been some weathering but would it have been the same as what it appears today. Lets not forget that it would have appeared quite stark when it first appeared and would have stood out in such a bleak and harsh environment. As I said at the beginning this is not a criticism in any way of how you intend to 'weather' Arten Gill but just an opportunity to discuss the impact of time. The landscape into which the railway is set had evolved over thousands of years but it was only in the last two hundred that man had the resources to make significant and widespread impact. Discuss.
  17. Apologies Jeff with a J not a G for the incorrect nomeculture. My only excuse is that I was typing by torch light. And on that note I bid you to go hither young man to hew several hundred more stones for the splendid edifice that we have come to know as Gill Head. Onwards came the cry.
  18. I am in deep doodos young Geoffrey. Matron has confined me to my quarters and I've had to sneak down to her office in order to post this. She is currently lying down in a darkened room having been confronted by lots of eager young women pounding on the home door. When asked what they were doing they kept saying that Geoff had sent them. On a more serious note I too remember that play/film? and as an ex Winslow inhabitant as well thought it might work. I now recide much further north (200+ miles) though in the city of my birth, Salford. Please note the word city as we are in fact older than Manchester having obtained our royal charter several years prior to our more southerly neighbour.
  19. Your not related to a Nigerian prince who is having cash flow difficulties are you by any chance? If so tell him the cheques in the post.
  20. Now young Jeff matron says I'm not allowed to give my real name out on the interwebby thingybobs as their might be young women out there wanting to trick me into spending my hard earned pennies on them instead of on small metal things that run on parallel bits of metals or puff puffs as I like to call them. But as it's you it's Ian.
  21. Do they do care homes for hippos and if so would we be able to visit, social distanced of course.
  22. Sounds like someone needs to be monitoring your interwebbie thingymabob use age my young hippo.
  23. Are yes but knowing young Jeff as we do he would probably make a scale wire brush in order to properly portray his endeavours in providing an authentic experience for us his followers.
  24. Trying to figure out what's the on button is.
