  1. Hi Rob, as Andy G says, standard gauge wagons traversed the line aboard a transporter wagon. Couldn't find one near the tunnel, but this illustrates the point. On delivery, they were usually pushed onto a short piece of standard gauge track for unloading.
  2. All the best Dave, thanks for all the effort you have put in posting the photos - 541 pages (13500+ posts) says it all really. Take care of yourself, and look forward to seeing more photos soon, not just for the photos, but because it will indicate better health for you!! Kevin
  3. NOTHING stops the Clyde - Clyde express! Kevin
  4. Hi David, Just been rereading this thread and wondered if you had got round to building another trolleybus yet? Kevin
  5. Hi Tony, Jayne once taught a "Pebble", named after the baby in the Flintstones!! Also on the subject of what people name their kids, when I was at college, I was in hall with Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway and Ian Fleming. I also worked with Colin Collins!! Finally another girl I worked with named her son Jack Daniel Surname, she wondered why we referred to him as Whiskey boy! All the best to you both, Kevin
  6. Well done guys, it had Mick and I beat! This is the current street view, just across the road from where the shed was, the buildings are quite distinctive! https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.9551565,-3.1521528,3a,60y,186.15h,93.7t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sb5PFE-TrVx9MyRb-ctQmRw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Kevin
  7. Not like you to be talking carp Andy, though I do know you sometimes take the bass! Kevin!
  8. Hi Brian, The Warwell cradle looks very nice Brian (and Pete!!), just wondered when they were introduced? Thanks. Kevin.
  9. Hi Andy, The layout also featured in Railway Modeller in November 1991, and in BRM in October 2005. If you have a real archaeological bent then try Railway Modeller for May 1981, which features Chee Tor's predecessor Gransmoor Castle in it's almost final form, you can see the start of the "railway in the scenery" that epitomised Chee Tor. Kevin
  10. The layout ended up in Canada. Kevin
  11. I went to the show today, and thought it was excellent. I also particularly liked South Town and Wickwar, but thought the overall standard was very good. Nice to see an unusual prototype modelled - The Grimsby and Immingham Electric Railway. No problem getting there, but it appears that a lot of people didn't bother today, given what we woke up to locally. Thanks to B&D boy for the early morning traffic report! t-b-g - glad to hear that all involved are OK, even if the car wasn't, bet Roy's comments were unprintable!! Cars are replaceable. Regards Kevin
  12. Hi guys, Howard Bolton's Minories layout in P4 has working point rodding from a very impressive fully interlocked lever frame. Not sure where it will be exhibited next, I saw it at S4um, but think it was also at Warley. Kevin
  13. Hi, There are drawings (and photos) in Historic Carriage Drawings Vol 3 NPCS by Peter Tatlow. It was published by Pendragon. I would think someone in the Wakefield club will have the book, if not in the club library. All the best Kevin.
  14. Hi Ian, It was nice to see your layout at Hull at the weekend, you seemed to be very busy talking each time I came by, so didn't interrupt. However one thing I did overhear, was one of the locals trying to tell you about "Dead Bod", a bit of a local legend. You did look at him rather cluelessly (somewhat understandably), and I wonder if he actually managed to let you know just what "Dead Bod" is all about. So that you are in the dark no longer, please see the attached link, which explains!! https://inspiringcity.com/2017/09/04/the-curious-tale-of-dead-bod-the-hull-graffiti-from-the-60s-which-is-now-a-symbol-of-the-city-itself/ Search via google and other info is available. All the best, Kevin.
  15. Excellent show guys, enjoyed my visit today. A good selection of quality layouts. Good to chat with friends too. Sad if it is last Costello show, will wat CH for developments!
  16. The Laird, Suddaby and Leander will be there with a display on The Lairds Leeds City North project: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64065-leeds-city-the-midland-side-in-4mm/page-26 We will be hoping to gain extra nuggets of information to help in our quest to build an operating model of the station. Hopefully we will meet some people who remember the station prior to it being converted to a parcels depot in the mid 60's. We re initially aiming at the 1961 period, but hope to take that back later to the late 50's. Kevin
  17. And the pub on Urmston station!! Kevin
  18. Hi Looks like Modern Image Broad Gauge, or is that just wishful thinking Western Glory? Kevin
  19. As the inaugurator of the first Clyde - Clyde express, I share your pain! Kevin
  20. Hi, In 1979, would this sleeoer train have been running late due to work around Penmanshiel tunnel? I know the collapse happened in March 79, but they were working on the tunnel at the time, so presumably had some possessions in the week's before?? Kevin
  21. Thanks to you guys for turning up to operate today, it was interesting to have a full complement on hand for the first time. We had some laughs, and even managed the inaugural run of the Clyde - Clyde express - who wants to go to London anyway! Don't worry John, it will get better as we all improve!! Kevin
  22. Hi Anthony, I have a photo of Q6 63378 at Whitby, dated 5.7.1953. However in Hoole's NE Branch Line Termini, it mentions that Q6's and WD 2-8-0's were allowed to work to Whitby in 1964, and that a Q6 was a regular turn on the Tees Yard to Whitby pick up goods. Railway Memories No 18, Cleveland and Whitby; Q6 63374 approaching Grosmont with a Newport to Whitby p-u goods. Undated, but could be late 50's or 60's. Illus History of North Yorks Moors Railway by Philip Benham: Q6 63393 at Ruswarp around 1960 Whitby to Tees Yard p-u goods again. Caption states that "Q6's only used latterly on the Esk Valley route and did not venture south of Grosmont to wards Pickering, until the preserved locos in NYMR days. Also in the text of the book it mentions that in the "latter days of steam" Q6's worked out of Thornaby on the Esk Valley line. Hope this helps - Kevin.
  23. Thanks for your response Rod, sorry it's taken me a while to get back, but I've been at Railex all weekend. BGS was operated as a sequence, but based on the Bradford Gloucester Square WTT. What you saw on the screen (It was powered by MS Access dbase.) was that sequence, and when everything was done, on the screen visible, then it was moved on manually to the next move. It worked very well, and as I said, gave a whole new meaning to "playing trains". The layout was sold to Tring MRS, but haven't seen it out recently. Leeds City North has been built pretty much as it was, so the WTT will be applied to the layout John and Pete (Leander), have done an awful lot of work trying to find out how the station was worked, and the make up of the trains to flesh out what we know from the WTT. John has just finished wiring the second FY, so we can start operating now!! All the best, look forward to seeing more about WKT. Kevin
  24. Hi Rod, I've been following this for a while now, and re-reading it! I like the urban terminus feel you have got, those houses/backscene are just stunning. I was wondering about a couple of things, firstly, do you regret not having the shed insulated. It got mentioned early on that it was a conscious decision not to, and wondered 5 or 6 winters on whether it has caused you any issues - not just you being cold, but with condensation etc, even does it get far too hot in summer. Secondly, I wondered about the operation, do you have a sequence or timetable to follow? I was an operator on The Laird's, Bradfield Gloucester Square, which opened up a whole new area of playing trains, that I really enjoy, and now we are starting to operate his new layout Leeds City North, you may have seen the thread. Your station looks to have a similar operating potential to BGS. Many thanks. All the best, Kevin
