  1. I wont say that's just how I remember them, cos they were looking kind of old and worn out.I do think that green suited them better, and the colour certainly never seemed to fade so much. atb Phil
  2. Like watch making that is,looking really good. atb Phil
  3. amen to that, and the Ruston....maybe all is not yet lost........... ATB Phil
  4. Ooohh.... I really, really want one of those! Looking good. Phil
  5. No. Different Phil, just a satisfied customer, not living in London!
  6. Hi John,at the moment there are no shows so 10 days or so turnaround is not bad ATC. Phil
  7. I get all my bits from C & L,who has provided a fair turnround in these uncertain times.Plus on the web site there are various pictures that are helpful, and don't forget Templot either as another source. atb Phil. PS see also do it yourself points.
  8. I have quite a few Dapol wagons that I've bought over the past couple of years, and apart from a BR guards van,the back to back on the wheelsets has been all over the place.Could n't get them to run through a Peco settrack point. They varied from .5 to 1.5 mm out.Dapol were a little nonplused when I told them......... atb Phil
  9. Definately looking good Dougal. atb Phil
  10. At least when finished you would be able to look at it ad think "thats all my own work". It's looking good, can't wait to see it painted, Atb Phil
  11. Hmm...no 'O' license either...the owner will be getting a visit from the Ministry(vosa these days),then there'll be trouble! Phil
  12. Looks like a Devon registration... Phil
  13. If you were doing any alterations to a 14xx or 58xx,I would definatly buy/steal/read through "Petos Register Of Great Western Locomotives"as it givesany amount of photos and detailsincluding what boiler was fitted when and when topfeeds were fitted. Also allocations and dates. ATB Phil.
  14. Looking good Marc, but wrong side of the country for me unfortunately. ATB Phil.
  15. Thanks all, I got it as is,with no box and a very wobbly wheel, the allen screw that fastened it had a load of Alredite type glue round it to hold the screww down, but it seems ok now I've cleaned it all off. I'll look into it further, but I'm not sure the number is right any way.I bought it from a local model shop, and the proprietor didn't know the history,or where it had come from, and I have no reason to disbelieve him. Many Thanks Phil.
  16. Can anyone identify this kit/loco,please? I've got a fair idea what it's supposed to be but I would like to pin it down. It's in need of a little TLC,but the price was right,so I can't complain. ATB Phil.
  17. Hot Damn! if I'd known about those it would save me a lot of trouble, what with little bits of plastic pinging off in all directions at critical moments.(not helped with having an essential tremor. But that's another storey...) Onwards and upwards...
  18. Proper job Chris,very nice.
  19. Hi John. Yes I see what you mean. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained.Guess I'll have to dig out the old fiendish resistance soldering machine from where ever its hibernating. Still pressing on glueing chairs to sleepers.and filing bits of plastic sprue to represent the spacer blocks for checkrails etc,. Bws Phil
  20. I'm using parts supplied by C & L, manufactured by Ambis. They look a bit fiddly... However tomorrow is another day. No post either,it's a bit anyhow at the moment.Things arrive at different times. All Hail to Royal Mail though,in these difficult times. Phil.
  21. Hi John, point is partially built, managed to get a wagon to run down the main road without it coming to grief, without checkrails, and no bumps over the crossing,so must have got something right. Just need a switch to alter the frog polarity and all should be don.I'm a little reluctant to go too far in case it all needs to come to pieces to install the switch (and the tie bars).I'll see what tomorrows post brings. Phil
  22. HI.I've had a busy few days. Built the frog, only 3 attempt to get it right, seem to have more thumbs than fingers.. All rails cut to size, and then threading chairs onto rail. Am I glad I'm not working in 4mm.......... Now to glue everything down. Workbench is kitchen table - again.. I did promise SWMBO a new one after assembling a Winson 1400 on it,."I'll get one when I've finished" quoth I,however said 1400 is lurking under the table awaiting remedial work on the exhaust manifold..... Assembled same to words and music,b**$$y fouls the main steam pipe... Time for a rethink on that. So,no new kitchen table. Phil. p.s. Oops photos slightly out of order.
  23. Hi Chris, just dropped on this thread.Somewhere lurking in the "things to do box "is a Judith Edge kit( I think) of a very similar loco. It's been sitting there about 25 or 30 years waiting on............ Phil Well look what I found...not Judith Edge after all, apologies. Cant remember what it cost now,but about 80 quid all in seems to ring a bell.(told you it was a long time ago).
  24. IIRC,there were 2 sidings one each side to a covered loading dock, all inset tracks.Chain link fence, about 8' tall, gate spanning the track was also chain link with steel angle framing.Think there was an upstand between the rails so you could'nt wriggle under .A trailing connection from the Down Didcot to Oxford line, led to a long loop. The entry line trailed in at the beginning of the loop,so you could back in,run round and push the vans (always vans) into whichever road. Used to be one train a day, from Moreton Yard, I think, sometime between 7 and 10 am.Think it called at Abingdon to pick up carflats loaded with MGs, then to Hinksey Yard.Train crews were always friendly, had many a trip in the loco, mostly a D63xx or though a occasional 08(probably due to loco failure NB locos being what they were) Just checked on Google Earth, you could hardly tell it was there, and I know what I'm looking for-but it was about 50 years ago......... Phil
