  1. My copy arrived in the post yesterday. Excellent publication - very highly recommended. As an aside WHS in Woodbridge had about 6 copies in today.
  2. It’s under ‘Hobbies and Crafts’ on PocketMags for £7.99
  3. I’d like to wish both Richard and George much success in their new roles.
  4. Just for information.... in Australia SDS offer an unpowered version of the NR Class Co-Co. It is $235 (about £130) compared to $375 (about £206).
  5. Shouldn’t be a problem on DC if one of them is an unpowered trailer unless there are coupling issues?
  6. Perhaps worth noting the established wisdom that words convey only 7% of communication; 38% is tone of voice and 55% body language.....
  7. Me too. Manufacturers often seem to leave the green era SYP variant to second batch releases. I wonder if this is a deliberate ploy to encourage sales of less sought-after earlier livery versions?
  8. I find Humbrol 73 Wine enamel or Vallejo 70.946 Dark Red, which are both matt, particularly good for buildings. I know colour is a very subjective topic but these seem to convey the slightly faded shade that I remember on buildings which differed from the more shiny maroon on coaches and locos.
  9. That’s the wife’s Christmas present sorted then......
  10. Very good issue and a particularly Interesting picture on pages 52-53 in the article on Class 13 with a range of vans. Quite a few of them have partial repaints.
  11. Possibly related but the website for another Key publication Steam Days carries a message ‘new website coming soon’. At the bottom is a link to Morton’s Media.
  12. I can only endorse what has been said by many already. Ordered from Model Railways Direct on Wednesday and arrived by Royal Mail on Thursday. First class service by all. Usual disclaimer - only connection is as a satisfied customer.
  13. I've decided to try my hand at making an etched nickel silver kit. I've done plenty of electrical / electronic soldering using multicore solder but from memory all the articles I've seen about etched kits seem to use separate flux. There seem to be a variety of fluxes available so which one is best for this purpose or will multicore be OK?
  14. Steve You can order a paper copy here https://www.greatmagazines.co.uk/model-rail-may-2020
  15. Sorry to take a different view but I don't have a problem with the paper quality! If you save the magazines then they take up less space and doesn't it help to save the planet by needing fewer trees and less fuel for transporting copies to retail outlets? I know digital copy is even more environmentally friendly but I prefer paper - even the thin stuff. The only downside I'm aware of is if you want to rip out pages to keep individual articles.
  16. After two solid days of family visit has escaped to peace and sanity - in the campervan parked in the drive

  18. Two copies in WHS Woodbridge, Suffolk this afternoon....
  19. Apologies if this has been asked before but if I buy 2 or more of the 38-626 inners will they all have the same numbers on the containers and the vehicles?
  20. Great cover pic! Similar to one on a MRC ca. 1965 with a Trix Western? Both the work of Chris Leigh?
  21. The panel at the bottom of p7 reads - '5 skills you can master in this issue.... Weather a steam engine p58 ....'. George Dent's article covers detailing a Black 5 but no mention of weathering. Has part of the article been missed? It's a shame because that loco looks superb - really capturing the end of steam look without going overboard. (oops - wrong issue! Should be 251)
  22. Slightly off topic but sad news about the job losses / closure at the former English Electric plants in Rugby and Stafford by the current owner General Electric...
