  1. Just got myself a copy. Many thanks for the tip!
  2. It’s just got to look like the prototype, so there will also be much referring to photographs and no doubt a few happy accidents along the way!
  3. Also worth looking out for a copy of this on the likes of Ebay. It'll prove invaluable for the chassis detail.
  4. I just wondered that and up popped you post. That’s a definite possibility.
  5. Yeah, I don’t get why they didn’t go for renumbering them. Plenty of similar ones to choose from, except possibly the Railfreight one as it had different treatment around the cab windscreens and doors to the standard sector livery.
  6. That’s a good reference picture. There’s something about the 83’s screens that reminds me of the Trix 81, although the outer screens are a little wider looking on the 83 itself.
  7. At least one of the Euston 83s had cross arm pantographs in service and I will be having my own go at modelling it alongside IC 82008 which looks to have had had a Faiveley ‘bike frame’ in service. Here’s the 83 looking smart with its black dominoes and cross arm panto. I’ll be using the Bachmann 85 as a starting point which will be simpler for the 82. There are subtle differences in the 83’s cab and what appears to be a higher solebar/shallower bodyside than classes 81/2/5 so I may use a different approach when I get to doing it. Pics from Flickr. Gordon Edgar for the 82 and Leighton Logs for the 83.
  8. Yes, and the 37/5s and 37/7s from that time, especially the ex-split box ones in original and red stripe Railfreight. It was an interesting time.
  9. Fortunately I satisfied my yearnings for an IC Mainline example with one from t’other side…
  10. I had to sit on my hands to stop them from buying several. I have ample recent Class 37s on the layout or on order. Great value though!
  11. I'm definitely up for the Class 76 kit.
  12. I was thinking more…. Pic from https://class37-growlers.weebly.com/class-378.html
  13. This is an interesting thread - I remember detailing and flush glazing the Hornby 47 when I were a lad and then the Lima one came out! Nowadays, I hold the Vitrains Class 47 in high regard. It is cheap to buy and can be turned into something quite decent looking.
  14. With the final 3 40s underway to make a fleet of 10, thoughts are turning to the next project which will be classes 81-4. Here’s the bodyshells for three of them awaiting surgery.
  15. I’m in Manchester this weekend (probably on Saturday) so I’ll pop down.
  16. I’ve just found this thread. These are excellent. Makes me want to have a go at modelling the AL1s to AL4 and have bought some spare class 85 bodyshells to have a play with. Reckon I should start with classes 81 and 82. The Euston ECS duties provide the opportunity to do an 82 or 83 in Executive livery, which would be great. The load bank 84 would also be a great subject. I feel inspired!
  17. I must say that if I have anything negative to say about the product, I’ll contact support first rather that bad-mouth about it all on here. If I ever got a bad response from a manufacturer then maybe, but there hasn’t been in this case or in any case so far. Far from it!
  18. Yes, I often think that the ‘failures’ under those circumstances are merely the symptom of a larger issue with the setup the loco is running on. There’s certainly a lot of power in the little beasties!
  19. I DCCd my whole fleet of 60 or so items of stock recently and found the LaisDCC decoders to be absolutely fine for the bulk of the fleet.
  20. I have 3 sound fitted examples, use an NCE Power Cab and they perform just fine. They are the locos I use to haul the track cleaning wagon around the layout due to the thrash, so that’s quite a load. The only problem with the Power Cab in general is if I leave any other loco on the layout with a small amount of throttle and switch to a different loco, but the bulbs in the short circuit protection glow if that happens.
  21. Also, Brian will send you a picture of the etch in question if you ask him by email.
  22. When I backdated by Accurascale 37419 to 37415 I used the following parts: > DP45-09LW WR lamp irons (‘cow horns’), > EEDP37-12(a2) backplate with horns > EEDP37-12(b) original screens > EEFG37-12a Laserglaze for the above. The wipers you want are the EEDP55-20 Wipers Tim
