  1. Hi Phil Tis I !!! I had a 1991 GTa the traded it in for a British racing Green 1992 GTi. It was one of the first multipoint injections but didnt have the catalyst to restrain it. Loved that car wish I had kept it. Traded it in in 2002 for a saab 93 tdi. I'll need to see if I have any pictures somewhere. I have tried to get a replacement but the command big money nowadays.
  2. At the risk of going off topic I was just pondering over this fact last week as I tried to get a Hornby Dutch brake van. Waddells no longer seem to be an authorised Hornby stockist and Modelzone didn't have anything modern image. So now have ordered from Hattons. Disappointing range of model shops in Glasgow now.
  3. Seen this lying in a scrapyard in Glasgow. It's travelled some distance to where it used to stand. There were a few more but couldn't make out the names. edit to add photo which had vanished.
  4. Ha ha. I've been looking at this thread for months and just noticed it last night.
  5. Has the title of this thread always been misspelled or has it been changed recently ?
  6. After all the hype has died down it may be a good thing if we get 2 competing models. At the moment we have to wait years between model issues, if we are getting 2 rival models we may be able to get a constant supply year on year.
  7. Sorry to go off topic but it seems the grain hoppers are not the only things to change colour. Just had a look at the Bachmann website and it seems the grey Civil Link VDA van has now been revised to C&MEE blue.
  8. Found out what that crashing noise was the other night. Opened the loft hatch and got bombarded with wagons. Think I may need more super glue.......

  9. Can't help but feel that a vague complaint of rudeness which happened last year against a easily identifiable member of staff on a public forum is a bit low. I think a direct contact with the retailer in a reasonable time frame and by all means a summary of the experience on here, would have been the route to follow.
  10. Success. All 6 locos travelling around the layout silently. It seems that just lubricating the worm gear is not sufficient and drop of grease on the tiny square housings at either end seems to do the trick. Now it's time to test run all the 60's, hope they are ok. Thanks for all the help and advice and good luck Matt.
  11. Hi Matt, If you take the body off and remove the 4 screws that hold the fan housing in place. Then you can pry the housing up and turn it 90 degrees and you will see the top of the bogie tower. The bit of black plastic with the small lump on it is the cover. It can be removed by putting a fine screwdriver down each side in turn gently and then it will pop off. You will see the worm gear. DONT lift the loco at this point as the bogie will fall out disconnecting the drive shaft, which happened to me and resulted if a fraught half hour trying to put it back in with needle nose pliers. The opposite end is easier. I am going to try PJ10s advice. I'll let you know how I get on.
  12. Hi Matt. Mine were in the loft so they were stored quite cool. I brought them down into the house yesterday for a heat but still the same noise when tried yesterday evening. Thanks for replying.
  13. I have neglected my model railway since the Autumn and am now back into it. I was trying my 5 class 56's and 1 class 31 over the past few nights and they have developed a strange screeching noise. I have lubricated each one at the prescribed points and popped out the bogie retaining clip and put a spot of model oil on the top of the gear tower but to no avail. As my class 60's don't seem to be doing this and they have the same mechanism I was wondering if it is the fan drive belt. So before I get the snips out for the rubber band anybody got any further advice? Thanks in advance David
  14. My understanding of consumer law us that you are entitled to a repair or replacement for a period of 5 years if the item was to be expected to last for at least that amount of time. If a repair or replacement is not available a partial refund should be offered. I would hope a model train would fall into that category. As most of these models are 6 or 7 years old I would say Hornby are acting fairly.
  15. Great layout and pics Neil and company. Keep them coming.
  16. Nice pics Ray. High time we seen an EWS heavyweight from Bachmann.
  17. Just had a browse through your Flickr. Some great pictures Jim.
  18. I drove over this line earlier this week when travelling from Irvine to Barrhead. I had meant to look over this bridge to see what the line was like for the past 30 years. I was surprised to see how well it has faired as it must be about 20 years ago since the last train. It was laterly the freight line from Lugton to RNAD Beith. Would have been great to see a class 26 with a couple of VEA's trundling along.
  19. I see on the weekly news letter that the diesel announcement has something to do with the Beattie Well tank
  20. Further to my earlier post, we didn't delve to deeply into what the problem was but packaged it up and returned it for replacement. We were told it needed a new motor at one end and it was returned to my father in law however the replacement also had cosmetic faults and broken pickups. So it has been returned for a refund. 21. Father in laws failed on the rolling road after 1.5 hours. The Rolling road was covered in brass swarf. No idea where it came from. Motor was completely seized. Glad it happened before it was chipped up.
  22. Hi Legend. The address is a housing estate. I was going to pop in a year or so ago when last out that neck of the woods.
  23. We use these in work everyday and they do fail given time. However if you buy the ones as shown below you can put a small self tapping screw through the middle before you put the tie wrap through and that saves any problems. http://www.cablecraft.co.uk/low-profile-self-adhesive-tie-bases.html No connection to the company.
  24. I used the yodel option on Friday at 1625 for some wagons. I received them on Saturday at 1250 in Glasgow. 20 hours delivery is fantastic in my book.
