  1. Good Friday (aka POETS day) Morning all, I did decide as the Kitmaster Garrets were not fetching much on evil-bay that I would return to my yoof and build it. Quite crude in parts ( but then I guess it was ahead of its time) But it is still quite an impressive loco. I'm just old enough to remember to seeing them on coal trains on the Midland main line that passed through our village. So guess it's a bit of nostalgia? More 0e stock to pack today then walk to local PO , plus puppy walking! Whatever life throws at you today, try and make the most of it. Trev.
  2. Morning all, good nights sleep last night after day with grand kids - they have such busy lives after school! Took smallest one (two) for a walk yesterday lunch time - he came back and slept for three hours.....me only managed a thirty minutes snooze. Off to collect my new specs this morning......then I guess I'll be on puppy walking duties later. Also managed to sell a bit more of my 0e stuff, but no interest in the German 0 standard gauge stock. Lets hope we all have a successful day, Trev.
  3. Morning all, Grand-baby sitting day today....I might just be forced to play with Biro trains...... Let us hope we all have a reasonable day? Trev.
  4. Morning all, I'm amazed - I've just had phone call from the opticians to say my new specs are ready! (Only went last Thursday) now just got to persuade the ex to take me to collect them! Dull and dismal in N.Somerset other wise today - not raining yet but I suspect it will presently. Also having to try and sort the wheel re-inventors out remotely too. Still life must go on I guess? Make the best of your day Trev.
  5. Ah, vehicle heaters, the first new car I bought (1973 Mini Clubman) the "extras" included a heater (plus seat belts & wing mirrors). Mind you the Morris one ton van I had as a service van at the time didnt have one. (Boss was not going to that expense for site fitters!) That van had ill fitting sliding doors too. So to keep warm I had to wrap my legs in sacks. Oh for the "Good Old Days" (not) Just seen the North American weather forecast.....Ian A ,wrap up well. Then I guess it will head across the Atlantic. Make the most of your evening, Trev.
  6. Morning all, after spending several hours last night writing a procedure out for moving some sets on a site with difficult access for a crane the way the client wanted to do it would have needed a heavy lift helicopter! So with my poor old noddle full of that I couldn't get to sleep so ended up painting bits of the Garrett. Today I have to pack up the sold 0e stuff and find a local PO thats open, whatever you're up today, make the best of it, Trev.
  7. Afternoon all, When I first saw that post of Dom's this morning I read "Monografie" as Moorgate! Lunch with Son & D-i-L - (classed as an early Xmas lunch!) Then they announced that they will be having a baby in June ( mind you they've been living together for 7 years and getting married in July!).. But he is going to have to pull his finger out and get some of the DIY jobs he's started finished! Enjoy your eveing Trev.
  8. Morning all, Not much to report, though the sun was shining a few minutes ago. An amount of success in disposing of some of my 0e stock. The ex's puppy doesnt seemed at all phased by fireworks, though there was a "present" for me on the landing out side my box room door this morning. Off to son & D-i-L's for lunch. And maybe some more modelling later. Lest make the most of what today throws at us. Trev.
  9. Morning all, About the only thing I enjoy about about staying in my room at the ex's is that I can sleep with the window open (just a bit) which I cant do in Nigeria! The Garret is coming along quite nicely....photos later. Those golfing notes that Ian posted I seem to recall having seen a long time ago - not sure what the days going to bring, apart from hopefully my new work shoes. They are sold as industrial trainers,(complete with steel toe caps) and are very comfortable. Also need to go through more of my boxes of part built stuff...found some 09 yesterday! Be good Trev
  10. Afternoon all, Been raining all day so the ex's puppy has not been taken out for walkies! But I have been busy listed all my 0 scale German stock in the classified section. And a lot of 0 scale (German again) on a more appropriate forum. And I keep finding boxes of stuff that I had forgotten I had got. Lots of scratch built started projects - some dating back to the 1950's (What should I do with this stuff?) This evening I get some more Garrett done. Neil, If your garden railway is flooded - does that mean Fraggel Rock is sinking? Be good Trev.
  11. Morning all, Well not much to report just looked out of the window...looks dull and damp... Not much else to report.... Be good & try and make the best of your day, Trev.
  12. Good afternoon all, Well the opticians seems to have changed a bit - now seem to staffed by very nice & informative young ladies! All the tests done, a little age related degeneration...but from the snaps she took of my eye balls said that blood pressure is ok, no diabetes -- but I should drink more water! Well at least that's save going to the Dr's? Still ordered two new pairs - - varifocals, normal & sunnies. and they've promised to have them by next Friday. I was awake early and made a start on the Garret, bot sets of frames assembled and sprayed weathered. (Shiney black frames were a no-no.) Photos in due course. Trev.
  13. Morning all, not poked my nose out the door yet.....but will have to later. But I did find the Garratt kit last night and first thing this morning started. I did (as it's only going to be a display case model) for a brief moment thing of building EM gauge But decided that would take too much effort to no real benefit. Now all this Hudl talk does any one know if you can fit a mobile (cell) phone network internet dongle to it via the USB port? Off to get the peepers checked presently, Make the most of your day Trev
  14. Evening all, Take back all I said (based on other peoples stories) about Bristol buses! Plane landed around 9:40, 10:12 I was on the bus (airport flyer) having bought a through ticket for nine pounds which allowed me single journey from airport to most of the City of Bristol, into the central bus station, (via Temple Meads Station) , five minutes later on a local bus which dropped me at the end of daughters road. .Certainly more "integrated" than the National Express Service from LHR! Rest of day spent playing with Grand kids Biro railway...! Ex now has acquired a short haired Collie puppy -- a complete nut case on first sight..... photo ( if it ever stays still enough! ) tomorrow. Eye test in the morning . Bed time for me now, Nite - night!
  15. Morning all, tis ump day again, and I've succesfully got to Schiphol.....not a bad flight and had double seat to my self. Fair few economy comfortseats empty on the plane - but as the crew wanted cash for upgrading every one stayed were they were! Now got 2:30 hours till my next flight - then the vagaries of Bristol buses as I'm expected to join the ex at daughters for grandbaby sitting! More later ( with luck) Try and make the best of what hump day throws at you, Trev.
  16. Evening all, Could some body please shut the doors and windows and turn the heat up around Bristol in the morning please? Just how am I going to cope with the temperature barely in double figures during the day ? On my way to the airport the thermometer in the car was recording 38C ! On another note I have decided that I am going to build the Kitmaster Garratt thats been loafing around in my getroundtuitoneday box. Seeing that the lastfew unmade kits on E-bay have not reached £50.00. On another note (as my modelling mojo seems (? maybe) to be coming back When I return to Ng in a couple of weeks I'm going to have a go at building a Best (or Holt) pre WW1 crawler tractor! Next up date -maybe from Schipol in the morning, Be good
  17. Good morning one & all, We've just had a hour long heavy thunderstorm (the sort that shakes the rafters) which means that the roads will be interesting this morning. Anyway GF's on her way south for the winter and sent me the attached. (as well many others ) from Oregun. Hopefully more later, if not maybe tomorrow morning if I can find free WiFi at Schipol) Have a good un, Trev.
  18. Morning all, I'm not a poet & I dont'alf know it, Penultimate day here (for a couple of weeks) as tomorrow night surprise visit to the UK---. But will be back here though. Just have to use my leave entitlement up some how! Not much else to say so far, Let's hope our days go to plan, Trev.
  19. Morning all, Fussy pets, (cats)my late M-i-L had one that would only eat the most expensive cat food - and would just refuse any other. Funny thing was though after she died . it was normal brands - not the cheap stuff - once he worked out that we were not the push over that she was. Used to tell him - eat that or go and catch your own.......! On that note, I shall leave you to enjoy your Sunday as best you can. Not sure what I'm going to do yet ...apart from getting a burger out of the freezer for my lunch. Trev..
  20. Afternoon all, disaster come coffee time this morning as the biscuit (aka Cookie) tin was empty! Nothing for it but a twenty minute walk to the supermarket to replenish stocks... (cant survive without Ginger biscuits !) Trouble was the temperature was around 32c with a real-feel of 40c....but I survived. And to reward myself made a bacon butty for my lunch. Now an afternoon nap is called for - as the sky has darkened and thunder is forecast. Enjoy your afternoon, Trev.
  21. Morning all, Not much to report from here at the 'mo.....slept through till nearly 9.am --- anyway it's Saturday and I guess a fair few will be exibitioning ? Enjoy &dont forget the photos for us mortals who dont get the chance to visit. It's one of the few things I miss about the UK. I do remember one year when a small group of club members (we where all on each others teams) did about 8 shows almost back to back - and one memorable show when there were some many layouts ( 7 or 8 IIRC) from our club that every one who came thought is was our clubs show - 30 miles from home ! What ever the day brings - lets make the most of it. Trev.
  22. Morning all and welcome to the last Poets day of the month . ah ferries as a fairly regular visitor (3 - 4 times year) to the Channel islands the very worse trip I had back was the Friday before Narrow Gauge South West , (cant remember the year) where I was due to exhibit. It was touch and go whether we would sail as it was a bit blowy-now I'm in panic mode-- was I going to get home to get the layout loaded - phone one of my operating crew to arrange for him to go and collect the layout ( which was packed up) - we did get going-- but it was 5 hour water born roller coaster...happy days? And I did get to the show! Try to make the most of your Friday, Trev.
  23. Evening all, Good to see that Stewart is back - that was quick! Anyway another "interesting" driving day --- see picture -around 2 hours crawling slipping & sliding through that cr&p! I remember my first flight ( in a air plane - not a Bedford pick-up!) The company I worked for took on a few ex Handley (?) Page fitters really thought they had come down in the world to be working on construction plant -- kept tell us how crude our equipment was - but heavy duty pilling equipment has to be! So I had to go to a site in Jersey, clothes in duffel bag, tools in a old gas mask bag - camshaft ( about 2 foot long)wrapped in sacking - all as carry on! . Any way - looking out of the 'plane window (turbo-prop but no idea what it was!) theres this huge ragged edged patch pop-riveted on to the wing......did the air plane fitters get some ribbing about that when I got back! .Second flight was more interesting -- either LHR or Jersey was down due fog - so air line (might have been BOAC- this was in late 60's) took all the passengers by coach to somewhere on the Southern - train to the Weymouth pier midnight ferry (but no berth) to Jersey.... so that was my first sea voyage too! More tales another day! Be good Trev
  24. Morning all, Dont talk to me about business trips...I always seem to end up in the strangest places that sound nice - but trust me the inside of plan rooms look pretty much the same world over! Three weeks in Barbados and I saw more of the island from the plane going out.....three weeks on a Greek island - it was an concrete one and gas plant! I could go on - but wont! Enjoy the day as best you can, Trev.
  25. Evening all, crazy traffic day here too...imagine doing major road works in market town center with out closing bus stops or market ---- 3 hours to do thirty minute journey! Then to add to the "fun" puncture just as we got clear of road works, one artic had got tired so it lay down in the middle of the road for a sleep ( how do you manage to turn a truck completely on it's side on a straight road?) then another that had fallen in ditch .....and just to make the hat-trick a 20 tonner that fully Overloaded had broken springs on one side so was leaning at 45 degrees --- which was the side we had creep by- camera -batteries flat! Bu&&er! Nite nite Trev.
