  1. 29 years ago -- working as service engineer for the Rolls Royce Diesel distributor - lots of time working on Sentinal locos & Plasser + Thuerer on track machines around the South West of the UK - hmm those were the days??? Anyway cup of tea, phone call to Vancouver & bed beckons, night night.- sleep tight, mind the bugs dont bite! Trev,
  2. Morning all, Beat the alarm this morning! Trouble is it's very humid here this morning - more so than normal. I was last night going to have a look one my new books (gifts from GF) but work got in the way! Still I guess thats a sign of something returning? Still trying to play catch-up with my boss being away and leaving lots of things not quite finished which need to be sorted out, and get in three site visits today! Whatever you're up to - try to make the best of it, Trev.
  3. Morning all, For ome strange reasonI forgot to set my alarm this morning (even though I had reminded my self to do so yesterday)...result - overslept by 10 minutes! Never mind it's not catastrophic ! lets hope all our weeks go well? Trev.
  4. Good morning all, Bright and sunny at the moment (the weather - not me). One thing I forgot to mention in my travel woes of Friday - while I was being re-booked for the flight they tried to charge the lady stood next to me $20 for re-booking . At this point I chipped in - and pointed out the error of their way -result oops sorry madam! This lady (about 6 months pregnant) then asked if she could blag a lift with us? Well what could I say? The driver had a bit of a grumble , told him that he should hope some one would help his Mother/Wife/Girl friend /Sister / daughter if they were caught in the same situation. Also looks like my modelling Mojo might be returning as I picked up a book GF bought for me about a narrow gauge "Portage Railway" in Canada..full of modelling inspiration. Hope your day goes well, Trev.
  5. Morning all, bit of an adventure yesterday! Arrive at the local airport just after 7:am to check in for an 8:45 flight. (Had my temperature taken as I walked through the entrance door) gets to check in desk only to be told that the flight time had been changed to 10:15....... "didnt you get the text message sent at 18:16 yesterday(Thursday)?" check-in clerk asks.....when asked for the number it was sent to it's not mine or any one in the company! OK, the return is still 17:45 ? "Yes sir - definitely" ...so back home (only 20 minutes away). Back to the airport 9:30, temperature taken again at entrance and at security (where they write it down and make a note on your boarding card!) .......10:15 flight eventually leaves at 10:55.....OK so far? Now the return trip was the "fun" part Arrives at Owerri airport around 4pm -- it's closed! No more flights today sir! (Luckily I'd told my escort & driver to hold on) ..... eventually found some one in the airlines office who could re-book us (by this time there were half a dozen people in the same position as me none of whom had received the elusive text ) Turns out the return was cancelled on Thursday. There might be a flight today (Sat) or Sunday......or if you can get to Port Harcourt airport theres a flight at 9:15pm. So rather than try to find a hotel decided that we would go to PH. With good roads should take around 90 minutes.....well the road was like the proverbial curates egg good in parts - very bad bush road in others....gets to PH around 7:30 pm...just as the 6:15 flight to Lagos was leaving! (This did not bode well). Temperature taken again ! Then wait and wait and wait (worse still NO COFFEE!) At 9:30 the incoming flight arrives..takes off just after 10 - (theres more yet), Just as we land captain announces theres no place to park the plane by the terminal so we would de-plane at the maintenance hanger and be bused backed to the terminal Twenty minutes later the bus turns up -- takes us to the terminal - doors are locked.....! Another 10 minutes while some one finds the key to let us in ....temperature taken again..! (At least they use these infra-red heat guns!) Eventually arrives home by 11:45pm.....and COFFEE! Now lets see what Saturday has in store? Try to enjoy what ever you're up to today! Trev.
  6. Morning all, Seems like Andy got a result - but do they make you go through all this hassle? Just a quick note from me as I'm off to the local airport for a flight to the "East" (well it's South East really) to check on site progress. So lets hope POETS day brings you all that you wish for, Trev.
  7. Good morning all, Dull & dismal here this morning so far. To much cloud last night to see the moon. Still tomorrows POETS day! Thanks for the input re-equity release, just an idea at the moment. Try and make the best of what life throws at you today. Trev
  8. Evening all, Thought I'd add some comments on todays ramblings....many decades ago we had just moved into a new house on a new estate with built in electric storage heaters. These were on some weird rate and only came on at night. So not very effective. lady comes round doing a survey for the local electricity board (SWEB) asking what we thought of them? What did we do as the temperature dropped - just put another woolly on says I ! . Seemed to not be the answer she was looking for. Neil that sure is a tiny loco, and I thought Rishra at Leighton Buzzard was small. A very long time ago there was a drawing of Polar Bear ( I think) in the Narrow Gauge Soc.Mag. I couldn't find it last time I was in the UK as I quite fancy building a 1:24 scale model. Lets hope Gordons "old flame" is what he hopes for? I took a very big chance when I first went to Canada as Marilyn & I had spoken on the phone and sent each other photos ..... but you can never be 100% sure with internet dating, I guess I was just very very lucky? (Mind you she took a very big chance too!) Now all I've got to do is get the ex to start playing nicely about the house, (anyone had any experience with equity release?) Find some one who'll take my 0e exhibition layout off my hands get rid of assorted bits of railway & modelling bits and pieces - including a mark 1 Unimat lathe. - then get on with the rest of my life! Enjoy whats left of your day, Trev.
  9. Good morning all, first proper day of the working week for me! ( Last two days being public / religious holidays) . Not much else to say this morning, so what ever you are up to, try to find something to smile about, Trev.
  10. Morning all, Another day "off" here - suns shining temps (and humidity) heading upwards. Also got a bit of trouble brewing in the UK - told ex & son last night that the bank of Dad would be closing in April - retort came back that "they would all be sleeping on the streets in cardboard boxes" ....I refrained from reply! On a lighter note I came across a report that a US cop had slap parking ticket on a freight train that was blocking a level crossing! What ever the day brings - try to survive, Trev.
  11. Morning all, Not much to report from wet west africa... apart from my shower head fell off last night! Investigation this morning show that the pipe had rotted through (Only two years old - cheap chineese cra*! Luckily we have a spare room - so going to see if I can recover some parts from that later. Also public holiday here so it's a "work at home" day. Hope your week start well, Trev.
  12. Morning all, No idea why I'm up this early on a Sunday morning - but I am! Suns up. Birds chirping away.....temps over 25c already... What ever you're up to today - try and find some thing to smile at. Trev.
  13. Good morning all, suns shining, temps heading for the high 20's and just had a couple of pancakes for my breakfast. Apart from that I'm feeling (mentally) a tad better. I've got a version of Lady C on my Kindle -remembering the stir it caused when first published ( I seem to remember reading the "interesting" bits - well interesting to young boys). Re-reading it now I suspect that it was the inter - class relationship wich really upset the establishment of the time? What ever you're up to today, try and find something to smile about! Trev.
  14. Good Evening all, Now heading into a very long (four day) weekend. At least one of the wheel -reinvetors is out of my hair for a couple of weeks ! Seems I also got one of them out of a hole (well their client) .These people been arguing about the need for lightning protection -- ( just think BIG lumps of metal sticking best part of 10 meters up in the air - highest thing around and in an area were some of the year thunder storms are a daily occurrence. Eventually asked for my considered opinion. That included these immortal words " - failures caused to generator electronics by lightning strikes are not covered by the manufactures warranty" Twenty minutes ago request for quote came in. They've been arguing the toss about this for the last two months.! To lighten the mood, couple of pics from the GF from Quebec. (She's now safely back "home"). There are a couple more of the covered bridge if any ones interested. By the way if anyone wants to set up a "Church" - west Africa is the place to do it . One I've had some dealings with has three services every Sunday -average attendance at each 64,000! Minimum "donation" per head of around $5:00 .....no wonder the bishops can afford fleets of private jets. ! Have the best evening you can, Trev.
  15. This is just too funny - scary how true it is!!! If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull... But that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus, And it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, Either My Radiator Leaks or My Exhaust Backfires!
  16. Morning all, POETS day! - fat chance for me to leave early, though four days "off" to follow ! Not much else to report. Still got all sorts of cr*p going around inside my head- I know what I want to do, I know what I should do - but still cant make my mind about what I'm going to do. On another note I got an e-mail from my ex yesterday asking me to "Send me £1500 as I am stuck in Cyprus" Now I knew some one had got in to her emails......as there is no way she would go to Cyprus - and the nearest she's ever been to a plane is the drop off point a Bristol airport! Try and make the most of your day, Trev.
  17. Morning all, strange feelings this morning - guess midweek "sundays" (which is what yesterday felt like) does that to you? Tonys Midland locos reminded me of a couple of 0 gauge ones I built (and sold ) many moons ago - the 0-4-4t and a "Spinner" . Oh well back to the grind, - Tomorrows POETS day! Be good Trev.
  18. Good evening all, my mood has brightened a bit during the day, I got up feeling morose this morning and quite down in the dumps...not really sure why. I did have a look at the Wishlist poll - hmmm .As there is nothing there that not being a smallscale modeler I'm likely to buy - but..... Anyway couple of photos of a garden railway at a Garden Center that also has a small model shop. (Usefully stocking Evergreen Styrene!) Not far from GF's (my future?) home. Be good Trev.
  19. Morning all, Not sure what I'm going to do today...well apart from the things I have to, like Septembers expense claim! More later , Trev.
  20. Good evening one & all, nominal day "off" tomorrow as it is a Public Holiday.....followed by two more Monday & Tuesday.! What that has meant that almost every bit of spare land in Lagos has been turned into a livestock market. Photos are a bit crappy as it was raining pretty hard when I left the office this afternoon. - Because of holiday traffic, rain - flash floods and completely brain dead drivers a 30 - 35 minute drive home took best part of two hours! But I was rewarded with quite a nice sunset (for all of 5 minutes!) Whatever you're up to this evening try and behave! Trev
  21. Morning all, for once I seemed to have an uninterrupted nights sleep last night..... Now lets see what the last day of the month is going to bring? Be good Trev.
  22. Good Morning all, - where did the week-end go? Still day off on Wednesday as it is Public Holiday! Still to brighten everyone's morning (hopefully) is another Ontario "fall" picture. Whatever you're up today - do the best you can. Trev
  23. Good evening all, eventually work this morning happened, if only a couple of hours late. Then one thing I hadnt considered was the height of the unit that we had assembled when placed on the back of a truck was only just (15mm) lower than the doorway!... Next one will have a slight modification! When I got "home" this afternoon I phoned my Mum who told me she'd just picked the last of this years Strawberry crop ( in sunny 'ertfordshire) - first time in her memory that there have still been strawbs in late September! Modeling inclination (aka mojo) seems to be AWOL at the moment..... Still only a couple of hours till bedtime. Be good, Trev.
  24. Good morning all, Not much to report from here......but I thought you would like to see another of my GF's photos from Ontario, taken yesterday afternoon. Of to work shortly, (No Pete it's not a model). Be good while I'm gone! Trev
  25. OK last lot ( difficult to believe it's nearly a month ago that I took some of these!. Few around Fort Langley station, Tanks cars (Renewable Energy Marketing Group) from the moving car from Golden Ears High way , Langley. CPR 3003 Switching in Port Coquitlam yard - again from a moving car - (no I wasnt driving!) And last but not least CPR 374 in the Roundhouse in Vancouver.
