  1. Afternoon all, having a break from worko! To answer the question about this morning; the last Saturday of each month (normally) is what is called "Environmental Day" (!) What is supposed to happen is that all householders are supposed to clean up the "environment" outside their property. As there is a ban on all traffic movement perforce everyone is at home or at their place of work. Of course in reality every one just uses it as an excuse to sleep in! There is very little evidence of any cleaning being done!. A few work place japes for you to (maybe smile about) ; there was a foreman in one of our workshops who would go into a solid sleep at lunch times.... we caught this guy three times - he wore hobnail boots with steel heal protectors, as his favourite position was to rest his feet on his tool box it was but a moment to just weld his boot heal to the top of the tool box...(wasnt me honest guv - my arc welding was cr*p), another time his tool box hasp got welded - it was three weeks before he noticed. He soon got fed up with us so went and hid each lunch time....till we found him one day laid under an 8 x 8 Foden mounted drilling rig.... after lunch we quietly pulled the truck out of the shop leaving him fast asleep in the the middle of the workshop floor. Unknown to us the plant manager was showing the Big Boss from HO around that afternoon..needless to say that was the end of that foreman - (useless piece of work he was too!) . Some decades later one of my guys was installing an emergency generator for one of the utilities companies, they sent an "office walla" to observe! This guy wanted th "help" so my chap gave him two large cable ends to hold, with the instructions that he must stand still and not let the ends touch. After about 45 minutes my chap says thanks a lot for your help - takes one end of the cable, starts rolling it up (it was laid in some long grass) until he get back to helper -- who had been holding both end of the same cable. Funny thing , he never wanted to come and observe - or "help" again. Right time for an afternoon snooze. Be good Trev.
  2. Morning all, Suns up and all is quite here (for the last Saturday in every month traffic is banned from the roads from 7 - 10am). And we must all be on grid power around her as I cant here any generators running - just a few birds chripping away. Whatever your day brings try to find some thing to smile at? Trev.
  3. Evening all, el-crapo day today just getting a bit peeved..... so not working tomorrow , but have to go and supervise some lifting & cranework on Sunday...not a very happy chappy... Anyway GFs sent some more photos from trip up the Agawa Canyon- Enjoy, Trev
  4. Good morning all, POETS day today, ( but fat chance of me being able to do that! The first meeting with clients ended up as two - that stretched till lunch time then hours drive across town the afternoons meeting (HSE) lasted till clocking off time! Three (probably) site visits what we call "front end inspections" - just to make sure that what the sales team has proposed will work! Girl friends sent another pic for me to share - Agawa canyon. Make the best of your day, Trev.
  5. Still on Vancouver Island, at Chemainus there was this sorry looking (needs some serious TLC) - falling apart (literally ) Loco. Meanwhile on the E & N railway on the other side of the road was road / rail bushwacker, that had been recently in use. There are plans to reintroduce passenger service on this line next year (yes - no - maybe) Chermainus does have some amazing wall paintings in the town - even found a shop (The English Sweet shop) that was selling rail mags!
  6. Good morning all, Day of meeting with clients consultants (this morning) and another clients HSE department this afternoon.! As to our logistics department - one of myex-pat team is due to go out this weekend - except they forgot to book his ticket! Now instead of getting him ticket to Teeside - they decided LHR was more suitable ! yet another challenge for me to get sorted today!. Whatever life throws your way today - make the best of it you can. Trev. PS for any one interested I've put a load of photos on the US & Canadian Railroads thread.
  7. Heres todays offering, Kaatza Station & Museum at Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island . My GF is magic at finding these things - planned our lunch stop at a restaurant over looking these ....(it's viewable on Google Street view!) Both the Shay and the 1929 Plymouth could do with a bit of TCL
  8. Good Morning all, My GF has gone gallivanting off - soon as I leave her! Sent me photos last night from a train trip she went on yesterday up the Agawa Canyon Railway...which I think is in Ontario. (I'll find more detail later) Still she thinks you'll all like a photo? Enjoy your 'ump day as bet you can, Trev
  9. Here's todays offering, Fraser Valley Heritage Railway [www.fvhrs.org/ ]using an inter-urban car ( towing a diesel generator trolley as there no longer any overhead. . What surprised me was how little room there was in the seats. Run on some weekends from Cloverdale to Sullivan - including a level crossing over highway 10. (aka 56th Ave)
  10. Good morning all, Not much to report from here - so far, though I do seem to be taming / training the wheel re-inventors....(for a while anyway!) What ever you're upto today, try to find something to smile at..... Trev.
  11. Evening all, my (fingers crossed) internet seems to be playing nice tonight, so have added a few pics on the US / Canadian thread. Only downside of theday so far is that my house keeper didn't manage to get any fresh fruit today. So no fresh fruit salad for "pudding" tonight. - I suppose I could open a tin - but it's not quite the same. The last (and only time) I went to the Severn Valley was on the opening weekend when managed to blag a ride on top of the coal in the Collets (?) tender! Off to sort some more photos...enjoy your evening. Trev.
  12. Having just returned to the "dark continent" after three weeks in and around Vancouver I thought I'd share some photos. To start Amtracks North bound "Cascade" at White Rock and crossing Boundary Bay Trestle. There will be more of other bits and pieces. If any one would like full size (for their own use) photos, please let me know. There is steam and traction to come too. Trev.

  17. Morning all, and thanks for your combined thoughts , but one thing for sure I'm not taking the four Grand Kids! ...(apart from fact that none of the family know about the GF - yet). Thing is I know what I want to do, and I know what I should do.....and there is stuff in UK I must do (Including trying to dispose of an 0 scale European narrow gauge exhibition layout and stock.) Jock, feel for you and your family - as the saying goes, "been there, done that , got the teeshirt and scars" Still tis hump day, Make the most of it. Trev.
  18. Evening all, Works gone crazy --"how long will it take you to get the concept drawings M&E installation quote done Trev? By the way I promised client that he would have it Tomorrow" -- You'll get it when its done! ( Which is what I should be doing now instead of wasting time on 'net (even if it is being slow!) . Then I find I'm in a quandary - help folks , please? I find I have 15 working days leave left this year.... now should I spend all of that time (from around 10th Dec) in the ( cold & wet) UK spending a little time with Grand kids & staying at ex's house (which I'm still paying for!) - or do I go and spend the time with GF who has leased a beach side apartment in San Diego (Hot & Sunny California) -- or do I try and do both? Decisions - decisions! HELP! Try and enjoy the rest of your day , Sweet dreams Trev.
  19. Good morning all, back on the dark continent - apart from tiring yesterday flights were ok,and either on time or early! Good to hear up-date on Don from Tim. 21. Good morning all, Well it's travelin day for me, back to the dark Continent (arrive Sunday evening). Managed to get the "list" (not a very long one to be honest!) reduced quite a lot, including buying some picture frame kits - and a miter block and a and screw driver and a 12" hacksaw - to frame some Nigerian art work that I bought with me. Also managed to get a bit of modeling done today on one of my Gn15 locos. The view from my modeling (aka man cave) is of the communal gardens. I hope that all going to various exhibitions over the week end remember to post a few photos? Whatever you're up to this week end, try to make the most of it. Trev.
  22. Good morning all, The salmon remained hiding in the Fraser River today so we went for a picnic at Alouette Lake . Then bending to a request to watch some of my models on a BBC program which is on You Tube ,and that led to watching You tube videos of the Festiniog /WHR - then Leighton Buzzard where a loco I used to own resides......what a girl eh??? Now polishing off a bottle of wine (well cant leave it for Marilyn to drink on her own now can I?) What ever you're up to day make the most of it - tomorrows Saturday! Trev.
  23. Good Afternoon all, I remember this day thirteen years ago, I was just leaving what was then "Western Excavating" (ECC) heavy plant office in Nanpean (Nr St Austell), when the local radio announced that a plane had crashed into the first tower - we for some reason assumed it was a small plane. Then as I got in the car to drive back, Radio four had the full and unfolding horror ongoing broadcast - I dont think I'll ever forget that drive. Off now to see if the salmon are running. (and to meet a lady minister!) Pics (much) later. Trev.
  24. Morning all, The GG has certainly come on since I was there in the early '70s....Neil , you and your team should be congratulated on the progress. Ian A... there are both 0 and Gauge One models of that Koff and the flat car . Somewhere I have the patterns for a 0 (1:45) gauge Koff 1 kit that I was going to market. Hump day's task (so far) for me included a fairly long walk around Crescent Beach area followed by a short drive to eat fish & chips on the beach at White Rock. There we had company of a very well behaved gull - who only liked chips ..! Some more holiday snaps for you to enjoy.....North Bound Amtrack Cascade crossing Nicomeki River trestle, Flowers (in an old dingy) at Crescent Beach village, small cruiser heading out with the towers of Vancouver in the background , White Rock beach with Mount Baker (US) in the distance and our table companion. What ever you're up to today try to make the best of it. Trev
  25. Morning all, We went along some of the Fraser River Valley today.. supposed to see some salmon leaping - failed on that task! Ended up at Harrison lake, but did manage to snap one ****n! Hope you're Humpday passes well. Trev
