  1. Hello, As a matter of interest regarding hinge failure. How come new cabinets are available but not spare hinges? Surely hinges must be available for them to sell new cabinets in December every year. Maybe a collective response to Lidl would elicit a positive reply. trustytrev.
  2. Hello Gordon, Try something like this in a usb port for wifi https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Usb-wifi-Adapter-Wireless-Dongle-Adaptor-802-11-B-G-N-Lan-Network/174096254679?hash=item2888f206d7:g:VJMAAOSwbl9dzbW- trustytrev.
  3. Hello Gordon, I think your post will help me and others whom encounter issues such as this because if it can happen to you it can happen to anyone. It also highlights a consequence of using copperclad sleepers that many of us would not even have thought of. Look forward to seeing more of your endeavours. trustytrev.
  4. Hello, The crankpins on current Hornby Scot/Patriot wheels and other RTR models make the current press unsuitable for using original manufacturers wheel sets. The crankpins are too large which is a pity really as many newer models have quite satisfactory wheel sets compared to days gone by. I have been attempting to make use of as much of the original parts from a defunct Scot chassis as possible on a replacement Comet chassis but have encountered problems all the way. It is a pity really as any saving is being eroded by the issues being encountered. I am beginning to think it would have been easier to go the same route as everyone else and use alternative wheel sets gears and motors. trustytrev.
  5. Hello, When fitting the Lidl cabinets I installed the back panel then assembled the cabinet to it. Was a lot easier than trying to locate the complete assembly to fix to the wall. They are heavy to lift when purchased so think about taking a sack truck with you. The glass adds to the overall weight substantially. trustytrev.
  6. Hello, A good way to clean track corrosion/dirt film is to use one of the old triang models with the serrated wheels. Dock shunter , green DMU , or Blue Pullman diesel units. l load them up with trucks or coaches till they slip the driving wheels then let them go. They might stutter along at first but gradually run smother as the rail becomes cleaner. No good for fine-scale track unless you sort the rims out though. I use a pair of dock shunters front and rear in case one stalls. trustytrev.
  7. Hello, The GW rivet press is a brilliant piece of equipment. Even if you only used it once .I believe its value will only increase as they are uniquely manufactured by Mr GW to an extremely fine standard. Precise lines of rivets can be created even on plain brass sheet very easily in either straight or curved forms. trustytrev.
  8. Hello, I would recommend the display cabinets from Lidl. I got two last December and am well pleased. The locomotives hidden away in drawers are now stored in them and they are illuminated with mini led light strips powered from a 5 volt wall socket power plug. Much better than a bedside table lamp. You need to be quick off the mark though as their sales tend to be popular trustytrev.:)
  9. Hello, A rough and ready method I used was to wire the chassis up so I could run it while holding with the wheels facing up. With the wheels rotating I carefully held a small angle grinder against each outer flange in turn to gradually reduce its depth. Making sure to only have the grinder in contact while the wheels are rotating it is possible to achieve a reasonable finish that does the job. Goggles or safety glasses are vital. trustytrev.
  10. Hello, It is clear to me that the sharing of information in this thread is helpful to us all. Thanks everyone. trustytrev.
  11. Hello, I don't think oily rags and or paraffin were used for cleaning coaches which would have made quite a difference over time. Cleaners of coaches did not have to climb over the paintwork like loco cleaners either. Would not coaches be cleaned more thoroughly to ensure passengers avoidance of he filth locomotive crew and cleaners endured ? trustytrev.:)
  12. Hello, Care to tell us about the wine please? If it helps to emulate the results you achieve I would like some too. trustytrev.:)
  13. Hello, One of the things not mentioned are some motors on ebay have replaceable bushes but others do not. Those that do not come with precious metal tipped arms. As far as I am aware once the metal brushed tips wear out the motor is scrap. I would think the running life of such motors is likely to be shorter than those with carbon brushes. The thing to remember about motor revs is the higher the RPM the greater reduction is required to achieve a usable torque. Think of engine revs of a car in first which limits the feasible top speed and less reduction in top gear that enables higher speeds. trustytrev.:)
  14. Hello, I wonder if a LocationWest Riding could have any bearing on the course of this discussion. With regard to cost it is well known Yorkshiremen don't like parting with it. But then they don't like being out done on being tight by someone from Lancashire either. trustytrev.:)
  15. Hello, I recalled seeing an article about Klear used in modelling quite a while ago. I don't know if it is still relevant but it certainly highlighted a few issues and was quite informative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6dXkL6CwGY trustytrev. :}
  16. Hello, Improvement comes with experience. It is like earning to ride a bike. At first it is impossible but after success one wonders what all the difficulty was about. Confidence is improved by experience and it all helps to achieve a satisfactory outcome. trustytrev.:)
  17. The ploughman must be a nudger. Ordinary folk don't plough the perimeter/
  18. Hello, I would seriously question the accuracy/authenticity of any colours shown in a book. Anything printed is variable in so many ways. Historical colours attract more different opinions than virtually anything else. trustytrev.
  19. Hello, Me too. Hoping to fit to a comet chassis to replace the Hornby one. Hopefully be able to load it up with loads of lead. trustytrev.:)
  20. Hello, Who pays for the cost of recycling all the junk mail? It wouldn't matter if it was produced on decent card we could all use it for modelling then. trustytrev.:)
  21. Hello, I looked on ebay but they do not seem to be available now but clones are. trustytrev.:)
  22. Hello, He has been busy with shows but been in contact now. trustytrev.:)
  23. Hello, I think all the junk mail being delivered is much more of an issue regarding the Royal Mail than stuff coming from China. trustytrev.:)
  24. Hello, I sent an email order to their web address with an order form attachment but have not heard anything back. Has anyone else tried to purchase using this method? trustytrev.
  25. Hello, Could it be to provide extra load bearing spread to counter possible subsidence due to mining? trustytrev.
