  3. Well done Gary, What a great video you've done us proud, here's to the next show at Pickering in August. Cheers Ian
  4. Never managed to get to the Delamare Road factory but have visited the Hethel site a few times, have been a Lotus owner for over 47 years now with my Sprint in the family at least 45 of them. Cheers Ian
  5. After a frantic week working on Falcon Road we're finally here all set up and ready to go. A few gremlins to sort out but nothing serious so looking forward to a good weekend. To all fellow RMweb members please come and say hello. cheers Ian H
  6. Working flat out to get my new layout ready for our show, 'Falcon Road' will be my first toe-in-the-water with '0' gauge so fingers crossed all will work. Looking forward to this special 40th anniversary gathering in Scarborough. Cheers Ian H
  7. Hi Rich, Just back from my model club and would you believe it one of my friends turned up with the latest edition of the North Eastern Railway Association magazine and in it there was a list of all their publications. They do two engine shed plan books and for more information and/or ordering I've got a couple of contacts for you. The one I have has got York North in it and I think it also has York South but not quite sure on that one. Janet Coulthard 01325 480009 Claire Williamson Facsimile-sales@ner.org.uk Cheers Ian H Hope you find what you want.
  8. Hi Rich, I have a softback book 'North Eastern engine sheds' which I picked up at York show around 2009. It was on the North Eastern Railway Society stand and I think it cost around £3-50! it has most of the NE shed plans in it with measurements. I used it to build my 'Haymarket Cross' show layout which was loosely based on Scarborough Shed. Talking of Scarborough apart from the eight road straight shed we had we also had a roundhouse shed next to the turntable, this shed was only small and catered for the many A5's and A8's we had in the 1950's. I think it may be large enough in places for something like a J27. I remember my spotting days at York in the early 60's and from the end of platform 9 you could see the south roundhouses, these to the best of my knowledge weren't big enough for Pacific's. They were all derelict and very little was stored there at the time. Hope this helps, Cheers Ian H
  9. If you're doing a summer scene you'll need Rain, Fog, Snowdrifts and trees at 90deg because of the gales. Ian H Scarborough
  10. As a committee member of Scarborough & District Railway Modellers I can confirm that we are NOT using Falsgrave signal box as a clubroom. Ian H
  11. Really enjoyed show with very friendly people, all the exhibitors I spoke to were only to happy to answer questions. I didn't have any problems with isles and catering was adequate although I don't know what you would have done had it rained! I agree with the comment regarding public transport, I found it difficult to find which bus to catch from nearest Metro station to venue. As it was I decided to travel by car from Scarborough and found venue easily. I now look forward to next year when hopefully I will be at show with my new '0' gauge layout 'Falcon Road' Cheers Ian H
  12. Some more work I have been working on since my last thread, most of my time has been spent on building some LNER semaphore signals which I got from Wizard models. This is the first time I have done anything like this so it has taken up quite a lot of my time although after completing the first one the second was a little easier to complete. I have fitted the signals with working Led's. I have also been working on the scenery above the tunnel entrance and below shows my first lair of 4mm static grass which will have added some 10mm & 12mm once dry. I will be using a spray glue for doing this. I have now managed to complete all the ballasting and am just about to weather it down with airbrush and some Precision Paints track grime. Ian
  13. After a two week break from doing any work on the layout due to sorting all my '00' stock that I am selling to help finance this layout I have spent the last couple of days finishing the track laying on the traversers at each end of the layout. The wooden blocks are to hopefully stop stock falling on the floor! I am also adding power switches and led's that will also isolate all the tracks that are not in use. I have spent today doing some ballasting using a method I saw on RMweb some time ago, I am painting let down PVA glue between the sleepers and then sprinkling the ballast over it before pressing down using the good old finger & thumb system. Cheers Ian
  14. Its a while since I added to my post now and so I thought it time to bring things up to date. I've been working more or less every day since my last post in January on both fiddle yards and the wiring. Today has seen the whole layout up for the first time so here are a few more photos of where I'm up to. The complete layout 20'x2' looking at the front with back of layout to wall This shows the Fiddle yard traverser at the 'C' end of layout I have used 550mm two way drawer runners which allows for great movement both ways. This shows the 'A' end of layout with mirror of opposite end Fiddle Yard, I hope to have five or six roads which will be around 4' long. This end will also have the programme track on it worked via a two way switch. Fiddle Yard in its near full open position, it will also go the same distance in the opposite direction This shows the drawer runners as fixed to the underside of the fiddle yard, you can also see on the front of the layout a Digitrax UP5 connector which will allow operation of the layout from the front. This allows us to explain the workings of the layout to visitors at shows. Other good news is I have an invite to Doncaster for the 2018 BRM show! Cheers Ian
  15. Lee, Just to let you know I've got plenty of BR Green paint when you're ready!!! Cheers Ian
  16. Another busy day today fitting hinged bases to bottom of each baseboard using piano hinges, this is to allow me to fit all the DCC equipment to them. Based on passed experience when something electrical goes wrong it'll be in the middle of a show with poor lighting! This will allow the bases to be dropped down to allow access to all the electrics and allow me to work on them easier than upside down on my back where hot solder can drop on me. I intend fitting LED lighting to each board which should throw light onto everything. I am varnishing both sides with three or four coats of varnish which will seal the wood protect it and allow for easy sticking of labels to them. This next photo is of the layout I'm building at my local model club which shows the DCC equipment fitted. Thanks Ian
  17. Have spent today test fitting a hinged bottom to one of the baseboards which will have some of the digital hardware fixed to it, and should a problem arise I should be able to get to it a lot easier than laying on my back under the layout. I have also spent some time making the guttering for the buildings using umbrella stays and brass wire Once happy with it all I'll paint them and glue them in place. Cheers Ian
  18. Have spent a few hours working on my signal box Still a few thing to do including fitting out the interior and making the signal box name for each end. Cheers Ian
  19. Well here we are News Years Eve and finally back in house after all day in garage (thought I ought to spend a bit of time with family) have now got textured brick on walls and used my new cutting tool for making the planking on sides of signal box. OLFA CUTTING TOOL HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL Ian
  20. Thanks for your kind comments Bill. Ian
  21. Have carried on today assembling the sides of signal box and added channel for windows to run in I have also been putting together the York Modelmaking laser cut signal box steps which go together really well. Am now going to fit chimney stack prior to adding the textured brickwork, please feel free to comment as any advice and tips would be most welcome. I will put some more photos on when I get brickwork done. Ian
  22. Good afternoon all, Have spent some happy hours over Christmas in my garage getting on with laying track and have now got all the track on the scenic part of the layout laid. Next job will be wiring which fortunately is one of my favourite parts of layout building. Have also just started scratch building the North Eastern signal box which is a first for me as this is my first completely scratch built layout I have done, previous layouts I have used and modified building kits to make what I wanted. The windows have been specially made for me by York Modelmakers. I just hope it turns out ok. C&L Points to which I will fit Tortoise motors The signal box is been made with Foamex to which textured brick will be added Thanks Ian
  23. Brickwork is from Country Scenics and the guy you need to contact is Martin Wood : martin.s.wood@gmail.com He does around six different brick colours and a couple of stone, its embossed and really good. I use UHU to stick it to the Foamex. The arch in both the overbridge and tunnel are done with 300grms card and then covered with the embossed brick. Once I've finished it all I'll add some weathering and then matt varnish over it all. Ian
  24. Have spent quite a lot of time this week on the layout, have concentrated on getting track laid which has gone well so far. Have finished constructing the C&L Point kits and laid the 6mm cork underlay. I have used a length of string tied at each end of the layout to get a straight line to work to. I have also been working on the buildings making chimney stacks and chimneys, I have also assembled and fitted the York Modelmaking laser cut doors. This is one of my rows of terrace houses I'm making, the next thing to do will be to fit the guttering and fall pipes Thanks Ian
