  1. David, What a great building I'm well impressed!!! I look forward to seeing it in place on your layout . Ian H
  2. Just had a great weekend at our annual show at Pickering where we had a surprise visit from non other than Mr Tony Wright and his wife Mo. They stayed the whole weekend helping us with the show and we soon had him working a top layout in keeping with his high standards!!!! Also managed a photo with him in front of perfect backdrop The LNER Coach Association stand, note the new Moquette seat covering as used in the presently been restored Thompson Dia 329 corridor third coach at Pickering. 3. Many thanks for all your answers guys I was sure someone on here would have the answer but I didn't expect this many! Around the time you all seem to be talking about (late 70's early 80's) I well remember the Deltics coming and going from Scarborough. I found out later from a local chap that lived in Scarborough but worked at York shed that it was he who, whenever he could would diagram a Deltic through to Scarborough. There was an article in one of the magazines about them coming to Scarborough but I didn't realise just how many of them did. Ian
  4. A friend of mine from Liverpool tells me he remembers seeing Deltic Crepello at Lime Street station he thinks late 60's or early 70's. He says in blue livery could this be true? I am told if a Deltic was going to be used on a special it would be put on a service train from York to Liverpool (Newcastle-Liverpool) return to check it was all ok. Ian

  6. I see you have lots of blue Deltics so here are some in their original colour which I took as a young teenager during 1961/2. No 1 D9001 Up Flying Scotsman Chalners Whin York No 2 D9003 Up Flying Scotsman York No 3 D9004 Up Talisman York No 4 D9005 Up Elizabethan York Holgate Ian H
  7. 55014 Scarborough 1981 At this time we here in Scarborough were extremely lucky as through the summer we had quite a few Deltics visiting. I well remember going up to the station around 7am on a Saturday and seeing two or three arriving and departing. It turns out the reason was down to the despatcher at York who was a Scarborough man who'd back in the 1960's worked at Scarborough shed doing the same job with steam. Ian
  8. Hi Pinza, I take your point about the photos but you could have started a thread dedicated to just photos on the Class 55 site and that way maybe all us Deltic fans wouldn't miss your your excellent thread. I came across it by luck as I was trawling through all the different threads here on Rmweb. Please keep up what you've started its great reading. Ian
  9. Not wishing to burst your bubble but did you know that we already have a Class 55 thread under Special Interests where you can find lots of photos of Deltics. Cheers Ian
  10. Gordon, I'm sure I heard a sonic boom as they went across the points!!! Ian
  11. Good news that the latest green class 40 is now in stock however, I think after what's gone before I'll wait before buying one. Could I ask those who've just purchased one to please give us the lowdown on how they perform as this time its a lot more money we're all paying and I for one don't want to be left with egg on my face.
  12. Could this be Bachmann's worst ever public relations flop? After what must be the longest wait ever for its release they've produced a model that takes us back to the dark ages. Am I pleased I didn't sell off my old reliable original class 40's for new ones that based on what's been written here would be guaranteed not to work. What I find hard to understand is why Bachmann don't seem to test their models before releasing them, I think of the automobile market here and the amount of time they spend on extensive road testing before releasing them. Just imagine if Ford released its Fiesta in the way Bachmann have done with the class 40. Come on Bachmann wake up, we deserve better. Ian
  13. Sorry to add more gloom to your Barrow hill visit but when I visited two years ago with 'Haymarket Cross' we suffered quite a few problems with the electrics. It was very cold in the shed we were in and this was September plus it was very damp, I have a cloth cover that covers the whole layout and on both Sat & Sun morning when we arrived to take it off I found it quite damp. The sheds are by their nature very dusty and dirty so be prepared for much loco and track cleaning. Finally remember you're on a concrete floor so wear comfy shoes and get well wrapped up. I really really missed a warm pair of gloves when I was there, couldn't feel my fingers so made things even worse when trying to work on small items. I wish you all the best and hope it all goes well for you. Ian H
  14. Very useful information, I've always wondered how loco crews managed their lamps. I have read officially light engine was one lamp in centre but I've noticed many more locos with the lamp at one side or the other. At a show I have available around 130 locos with a good amount of them minus lamps some with the horrible over scale ones (I think Springside) and some with my own homemade ones which I use 1.5mm LED's to make. These, as you have said are permanently fixed so unfortunately can't be removed once on shed. I think if they were I'd be up the wall by the end of a show with up to six operators and so many movements taking place.
  15. Very controversial subject you've hit on here, I fell foul of Mr T Wright with lamps on my 'Haymarket Cross' layout and whist I agree with certain points I can categorically say and I have photographic proof that locos were seen on shed with lamps attached. There's no way I can take the lamps off my stock as they are all working! and definitely more to scale than the majority I've seen on this forum. At shows I've attended I get so many positive comments from the attending public on my lamps and where lighting is poor in the exhibition hall (which is most of them) we turn off our layout lights for the last hour of the show and use only the yard lamps and those on the locos for lighting the layout. Ian H
  16. Have checked on 'How Many Left' and according to that there are only 90 Elan Sprint FHC registered with DVLA, twice as many DHC though. Ian
  17. Hi Gordon, Its Pistachio Green/White, Gold bumpers Ian
  18. Hi Gordon, This is my first posting on your thread and I must tell you in my view its one of the best layouts on RMweb! the detail you are putting into it is outstanding please keep up the good work. Ian (Haymarket Cross) Ps The Lotus is going in for a full restoration job in early Feb after many years sat at the back of my garage.
  19. Thanks for help Brian, I'll have a look for it although the period you mention is a bit later than my modelling era. I'm interested in the late 50's early 60's. Ian
  20. Many thanks for your help Mark, I knew someone on here would know the answer. I think with the range of ready-to-run stock available nowadays we should be able to make up a reasonable rake that is fairly prototypical, my problem is knowing have I got it right. It would be great if someone could give us information on freight formations thus allowing us a chance to make up a proper train. Ian H
  21. What an interesting thread this, very informative. I am at present putting together a train of 16ton minerals and would like to ask a question, Can I mix the grey minerals with brown ones? Am I right in thinking the brown (fitted) ones would be positioned at the front of the train? Is there a maximum number of unfitted that can be positioned at the rear? Thanks Ian H
  22. Having now attended quite a few shows now with my layout 'Haymarket Cross' I have two or three videos you can see on Youtube via the link below. Most of the sound is from Olivias Trains with a few from Howes. Cheers Ian
  23. Peter, Just check the fall plate between loco & tender, it needs to be well clear of tender or it will foul and derail. Ian
