    Hornby W1 Hush Hush

It has just this minute updated to say ‘entered Hermes network’, and now the link is saying that it isn’t valid and they’ve got no record of it. Marvellous. Hermes strikes again. How they stay in business is beyond me

Still waiting for mine from Hornby. Hermes tracking tells me that the label was printed on Friday and, er, that’s it

    Hornby W1 Hush Hush

Min has just been dispatched from Hornby, let’s see how Hermes do
  4. My DLG arrived yesterday. Am currently in the midst of a COVID Infection so couldn’t get on here to say so. I responded to the email so I’m expecting my membership pack and wagon in the not too distant future
  5. I’ll go left field and say a 009 ‘Russell’, based entirely upon the idea that I want one
  6. The locos look okay next to the L&B stock The above is actually a prototypical train - I have been pulled by Merddin Emrys whilst sitting in former L&B coach 14 (aka the Snapper Bar), so there is precedent for the combination of a double Fairlie and an L&B coach (albeit that the peco model is rather inaccurate for the Snapper Bar) . If you’re happy with impressions then they work fine, but if you are eager for prototypical accuracy then the Peco ‘bug boxes’ and ‘bowsiders’ that are on their way out presently are a much better fit. in terms of the EoM you have on the way, the Peco green bug boxes are an immediately available option for something prototypical. That model represents the loco in early preservation days, so basically any green FR carriage will look right-ish behind it
  7. Been contacted about my choice of 009 wagon for the collectors club today, so suspect that both the carriage and my ‘David Lloyd George’ will be dispatched presently
  8. Gave in and joined the club in order to get DLG. Also taken delivery of my Victorian green Merdddin Emrys - superb looking model
  9. My Merddin Emrys has just been dispatched. Looking forward to it
  10. I thought that there were 01 types myself - what’s the other one then?
  11. not my pic (and will happily credit or remove pic upon request from owner) This particular coach is preserved on the Bluebell. Would make an interesting modelling challenge. And it’s halfway to blue/grey
  12. Anyone got an inkling on the date these will be in shops? I have a Merddin Emrys with my name on it and I’m just curious as to when Kernow will be able to send it out to me

Where evidence is to be interpreted, there will naturally be disagreements. I for one am satisfied that the above picture shows a green running board and I am equally happy with my new model of Clan Stewart and to quote Isaac Asimov ‘being young is a fault that most are guilty of at some point in their lives’. Youth also does not imply ignorance - I am one of the younger generation myself and I take my research for such things as seriously as any now I just need to get a job at Hornby designing things
  14. Western, falcon, Kestrel, Lion, two manning wardles and several class 17s for me. Whilst I have bought a few products that have gone wrong for others I personally have never experienced an issue with any of them. might I suggest that the issues you have experienced could be due to handling prior to reaching you, rather than particularly sub-par quality on the part of Heljan? They don’t seem any more or less prone to such issues than others in my experience
  15. Don’t forget as well (although I’m not sure if this applies here) that EPs and livery samples aren’t always of a prototypically accurate engine. If you need to test out various toolings it sometimes makes sense to do an unrealistic EP with as many of the variations as possible on a single body shell. I seem to remember a manufacturer a while back saying exactly this when presenting their EP to the world. As I’ve said, I’ve frankly got no idea if this is happening in this instance but maybe this is a possible reason for the differences on the two sides of the loco?
  16. I do not think so - the black on the EM1s and EM2s was phased out fairly quickly in favour of green and blue. I’ve not personally seen evidence of there being black with yellow warning panels
  17. I love the smoke generator, but I’m not sure that I could a) afford to pay for it in every purchase or b) be happy to take it in concert with a sound decoder. Sound decoders just don’t sound right to me, particularly on steam engines. Hornby I think will know that most modellers cannot or will not afford £300 for every loco in their collection so I think the smoke unit being standard is not going to happen. Can I foresee a new range of locos with it fitted? Yes I can. Possibly as the Dublo range perhaps?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t spot that until you mentioned it. On the basis that I didn’t see it and I am also a bit heavy handed at times, I shall leave it for a little while thank you though

My pictures - the loco does not photograph well at all, but is much much better in the flesh. I’m perfectly happy with it myself

Got mine too - the model does not photograph well at all but looks perfectly good in person

I’m reasonably reassured by the pic on Kernow’s website and the pic blow earlier produced earlier in this thread (I do not know copyright owner, will happily credit or remove if this is an issue) These satisfy me that the clans did have green running plates (the difference between green and black in the above picture is very evident and the running plate shade matches the boiler) and that I should not be too worried about the colour of what I have just bought. The model is now at my house awaiting inspection this evening so I shall report back then if anyone is interested

Still looks like a decent option to purchase - £144 GBP for the clan on the site at the mo, although you’ll have to factor a fair whack for international shipping in there

Well, just had news that mine has been dispatched. A little concerned about the livery, but I will reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh so to speak
  25. thank you all. I am by my nature a bit of a freelance guy - my preserved railway will incorporate green A4s, a railfreight class 17, a 'west country' with a stanier tender, an original condition merchant navy, a W1 and a 'Leader' . As well as a few other bits. So for once I wanted to actually try and have a pop at a moderately realistic set of trains for the area in my carnforth scheme. I'll happily take a plausible excuse to run the loco being towed
