  1. Apparently a collaboration between Peco and Kato to produce the FR Englands and Doubel Fairlies in 009! Now i I have no clue as the validity of this (although the multiple photos in different environments does help with authenticity in my mind), but if true, this is very exciting stuff (albeit with a pinch of salt required at this stage) Perhaps someone in the know can confirm this is genuine? It would be great if it were!
  2. Although for their 009/Hoe locos of Rheneas/Skarloey they have based their models of the actual Talyllyn locos rather than the TV series engines. Rusty was a bit more TV series than prototype, but Bachman has for the most part done a very nice job with their narrow gauge stuff so far
  3. With the condition of either railway when they were saved, I find it hard to argue that either has not been ‘preserved’ in the traditional sense of the word, regardless of ownership status (I do know that the FR is certainly as outlines, no idea about the TR myself) as both lines needed almost total reconstruction of infrastructure, rolling stock and also became the home for a number of ‘foreign’ engines/coaches etc.
  4. Yes, definitely either County Gate or cliffhanger. Had the privilege of operating them and Bratton Fleming (another layout from the same builder) at various exhibitions. website for them all is still around at www.009.cd2.com
  5. It’s a personal choice for me, I like to keep work and hobbies separate from one another and if I did volunteer on the one of my local lines then it would become work for me and the enjoyment would be greatly reduced
  6. Well in fact even the location for Bleneau isn’t entirely original, the exchange platform between the FR and GWR was at the back of what is now the mainline platform, leading on to the FR official terminus at Duffws just slightly further along (even though that wasn’t actually the end of the line) in the town (the station building is now public loos). The FR actually divided the LNWR Conwy Valley line and the GWR Bala line well into the preservation era - BR had to ask their permission to build the ‘through’ line which now exists. But your point is well taken the railway has changed a great deal in its preservation period with very few of the original stations/buildings left (from recollection, Penhryn is actually pretty authentic, Minfford is mostly the same and the main building of Harbour Station is original as well as the nucleus of Boston Lodge) but everything else has been extensively rebuilt over the years. This overall is one of the things which I think stops a great many preserved layouts from looking too authentic. It’s frequently used as an excuse to plonk down metcalfe buildings, fill sidings with 1960s triang wagons with those gigantic couplings and gaudy liveries, and generally tip a collection of items from the ‘unused’ box onto a baseboard. As demonstrated with the FR, the preservation history alone of most railways could fill a decent sized book, and this air of authentic evolution is very rarely captured. As I said before, Museum of Transport does it nicely with some cracking modelling and there is an N Gauge model of a preserved railway who’s name I cannot recall, but that’s good too
  7. I do find that on occasion the ‘it’s a preserved railway’ is used as an excuse for shoddy modelling. None of it looks believable, and so doesn’t exactly inspire. That being said, there are some truly marvellous ones out there - The Museum of Transport layout is a truly wonderful that leaps to mind immediately. as regards to non-surviving locos being used, again, it needs to look right to be right - so naturally I shall be running 4472 in wartime black, ‘Bude’ with a stained tender, GT3 and a new Build GWR ‘City’ when I finally get around to making my preservation layout. Think I’ll have to base it around a big gala
  8. My congratulations to whichever shrewd buyer spotted that i’d somehow neglected to add a profit margin to the Princess 1891 version of the England loco kit I tip my hat to you :). i cannot day that I am heartbroken, it is nice to see that people wish to buy the products that I am designing. If you are on here and reading this then I would welcome any feedback, and the same goes for any purchasers of my models :) Projects are slowly continuing for the time being and announcements will be made here when new items go up on the store
  9. Good lord, is it really over fifteen months ago that I did this? Observation coach is still not lit up at the mo and and brake composite is suffering from severe cyanoacrylate fogging on the windows. Would anyone know know where I can source a replacement set of windows? I’d rather not have to buy a whole new carriage if I can help it.
  10. I’ll throw in my recommendation for Games Workshop Green stuff (yes that is it’s real name). It comes as either a two part putty (cut a sliver off and mix until dark green) or a paintable paste. have personally used both for my warhammer models and they are both superb. Reasonably slow drying, easy to sculpt, can take a good level of detail and is easy to sand/file back to a seamless finish
  11. Freelance or not, I do like that myself, along with the dairy wagon behind. Will be purchasing myself (although a rename could well be on the cards - not a fan of ‘Sid’)
  12. Happy to see that the Talyllyn has stepped in to help local residents who have (temporarily) lost their bus services get about in the area: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-48772940 Good on them!
  13. Hello hello, I do believe that that is my design delighted to see it being used I trust it was all okay?
  14. UK has a few as well. You can see Sellafield from Ravenglass train station. Never been through there myself, but the fact that I’m using a train that has gone through the area must mean I’ve been exposed to a few more rays than if I had stayed away... For the record, I’m not being an alarmist here. Buildings B30 and B38 are considered to be the most polluted and dangerous buildings in Europe (Chernobyl included) and there have been more than a few accidental leaks of deuterium and lord knows what else, and that’s before you take into account the fire at Winscale. still, I’m going back to ravenglass this year. So go figure to return to the series at hand, Chernobyl is a superb rendition of what happened. There are decisions made to emphasise drama, but generally it is spot on - it was nice to see the miners get a proper mention as well. Their efforts have gone almost totally unnoticed in the past

Forgive me for this, but I do find it rather sitasteful that people have gone and looked at the value of Dave’s house on zoopla seemingly in an attempt to nothing but tear the man down even more. What possible use could be made of such invasive enquiries I can’t imagine. This business is now insolvent, any next steps concerning money/crowdfunding refunds/ are totally and utterly out of Dave’s hands, so I do wonder if we can allow him to lick his wounds in peace without publicly speculating on how much of his house’s value went into the business.

I did say that I didn’t think that it would be covered, nobody would be more delighted than me to be proved wrong on this one, truly. And it’s certainly worth trying it. As an aside, beware of this website - they don’t half talk nonsense about some things. In this case, the article seems alright, but i’d also want a corroboratory source of information for practically anything this site says - the number of people I have dealt with who have been misinformed by it is quite staggering .

Touching on this, I have been involved in investigating and resolving s.75 claims for multiple companies and at the FOS itself. I can assure you that the FOS holds no fear for them even if it will cost money to resolve - financial institutions are now more concerned with precedent and principle rather than immediate cost. What’s more, whenever I was threatened with this myself, it was time to smile warmly, hand over a FOS information leaflet and usher them to the door. You will get considerably more help by being polite and friendly. It it seems unlikely to me that s.75 will work in this case unfortunately - the rule of thumb for my investigations has always been that the actual money spent must be over £100.01 to be valid. Having said that, by all means, try with your various financial institutions- I haven’t worked at every single provider so maybe some will be more willing than others and if you did spend over £100.01 then that does change things. very sorry to hear about this whole situation, for all concerned. Dave has lost more than his business here (as if that wasn’t enough) and of course others have also lost financially too. A bad situation all over
  18. Can’t put a link in at the moment, but ZZ Top doing Viva Las Vegas is a million times better than the Presley original, and it’s not like that was a bad one either

shall we provide Dave with the benefit of the doubt for a moment, him moving a trading address to an accountancy firm (not the most outrageous or uncommon move it must be said) triggering a veritable landslide of speculation on here is hardly likely to improve matters for him. assuming for a moment that there is a legitimate business reason for this (rather than insolvency of some kind - for which I would remind everyone there is currently no evidence at all) then some comments made here could do irreparable harm to both Dave and his business. Like it or not, he has the right to run his business in his own way and we have no right to judge him for it. Let’s wait and see what the reality of the situation is shall we?

Having worked at the Insolvency Service myself I am of the honest opinion that we should wait for news. There is no evidence of what exactly is happening so Let’s wait and see what turns up shall we?
  21. Fund has now just broken £37,000 Big plaudits to everyone who has given give yourselves a round of applause
  22. Best and the worst of people here - the unthinking and moronic actions of the vandals have inspired generosity and care beyond measure in our community. Whilst money cannot repay, it certainly shows that we all close ranks when the situation calls for it.
  23. They are indeed, but my understanding was that this extended only to cars and maybe scenery, not the rail items
  24. I today paid a visit to the Hornby Visitor Centre and for some reason they had a basketful of ‘Janus’ locos for £50. Had the port of London, ICI and Allied Steel variants
