I have three Hornby super detailed 31s , they are the smoothest in the fleet. I also have a lima 31, to use the body , which is probably slightly more accurate than the newer Hornby one, but I'm not too bothered TBH. If you do go with a newer Hornby , check the threads on metal fatigue and which ones are prone to it

I saw a pic of a 73 shunting a single BG into a parcel depot at Southampton docks, this doesn't look dissimilar

I'd like to see it retained of course, It's English eccentricity at its best....it's sad to see the quay so quiet though, there wasn't any departures of the CI ferries for 2 days ! I remember it bustling when I went in the mid 80s

I was down there recently to go to sea world with the kids, had a walk along the tramway......amazed they went to the bother onsidering the station isn't a million miles from the quay...the ultimate luxury I guess which wouldn't bear water in the privatised world. I'd still love to see it preserved though, and not ripped up because some dozy cyclist went A over T on it

that website is very good. I don't have an interest in pre tops blue or green diesels but one thing I've noticed is I'm drawn to quality modelling regardless of the subject

I think johns photos are good, But if I want to search flickr for photos of locos I'd do it separately, I don't really want to keep getting directed away, and it doesn't give me any indication if it would be what I'm after

Out of interest , Jim, how is the camaraderie between companies ? You are going to places like bescot, which is DBS territory for the most part - does everyone get on or is their any hostility to you being on their patch , so to speak

More so, we appreciate your posts as it's a fascinating insight , and further more raises the profile of Colas. I wish I still lived in the chilterns, it would have been nice to see the 70.... That bridge at PR must have been straining under the weight of the photographers....the last time I saw it that busy was for a load haul 60 on the self discharge train in 1998...
