  1. Just started lifting track to allow layout to be moved. Last train to run round layout was 47708 Waverley with a 6 coach ScotRail Express set.

  3. Getting ready to pack up the layout for the move. Took some video and some photos. Here are some of them. Both blue grey and InterCity livery were on the go on the mid 80s. HSTs could be seen with matching power car and coaches or the coaches on one livery and the power cars in another. If my memory services me correctly, full sets of blue grey, full InterCity livery sets or Intercity power cars with blue grey coaches were more common. The variation I remember the least was blue grey power cars with IntrCity livery coaches.
  4. Reply was supposed to include Millerhillboy's list dated 4/4/1986 in post number 52. Whilst I am still trying to ignore the 143s on the list, interestingly I have just noticed Bachmanns latest arrival on my version of Waverley, 47436. Wonder what she was up to that day, an Inverness service, or perhaps a portion train as far as Carstairs?
  5. We have had an offer accepted on a new house, we are really looking forward to the move. Looking at my wish list a few ticks and a few partial ticks. Double garage, tick. Insulated and heated, not yet. Views of fine Perthshire scenery, tick. I think there are distant views of the WCML, the bit between Stirling and Perth anyway, where pointy nosed kettles used to run on three hour expresses between Glasgow and Aberdeen. Cinema system in railway room, not quite, but am sure I can sort something out.
  6. Popped into Burger King for burger to find out they were sold out of burgers and coffee. Chicken Royale and Dr Pepper instead of a Whopper and Latte.

  7. Large Logo 47436 arrived yesterday - delighted with it.

  8. A couple of photos of a new arrival on the layout, Bachmann's large logo 47/4.
  9. Given the amount of weight the owner has had to put in them to get them to run without derailing, I think you are right metal detectors could be deployed to stop them being pinched!! I should have said yesterday, having added weight to each wagon they now run much better. Odd thing is, at the price they were, I had assumed they were made of gold and as such there would have been no need for additional weights.
  10. https://youtu.be/hqYI-W2flic Another video of the Drax wagons, this time 18 on our Laurencekirk layout. If we can get G4S to attend our show this summer they will be running on our Almond Bridge Layout.
  11. Seems I may have less time than I had expecting to dismantle the layout, we got an offer on the house on the day it went on the market. I was very careful to confirm to any viewers that the layout was not included! One viewer said as I opened the garage to reveal the layout "Oh I had heard about you". The hunt is now on for a new home. Ideal wish list. A heated and insulated room or garage of 32 x 16 ft Fitted out with a cinema system to watch Diesel and Electric volumes 1 to 7, James Bond, the three hour Gods and Generals followed (after lunch) by Gettysburg, Sink the Bismarck, Battle of River Platte, The Longest Day, etc etc Views over Perthshire’s stunning scenery with a mainline railway within the vista. Real wish list. Somewhere dry where a 16x 11 layout can be reinstalled. TBC………….
  12. Was not sure where to post this one. Obituaries? Road Vehicles? Anyway am sure Charlie and Arran will always appreciate a wee bump for the forum relating to their model. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35725299 Sorry edit to cut and past of the link is not working, tried to type it in but must be missing something, anyway if you are interested, the article is "Pacers: The train that the UK has struggled to get rid of". I am sure they mean the full size one rather than the highly acclaimed Realtrack model
  13. Thanks. As above I have passed on your comments, even a rake of 6 seems problematic can I ask how many you have managed to run successfully as a rake?
  14. Thanks for the suggestion, the guy who has them is not on the internet, therefore I have passed on your comments. However there is no screw on the bogies to adjust.
  15. Sorry only took photos of the full rake, rather than individual wagons. I will try to take some of the individual wagons next Thursday at the club. In the meantime if anyone has any ideas how to get these wagons to stay on the track when going round curves, please let me know. The gauge of the wheels has been checked, and the curves are fine for all other stock. The guy in the club who bought them did speak to Hornby at the Glasgow show last week but no real answers were given about their poor running. He was able to speak to the designer of them who was able to offer advice on how to get into them. This appears to be fairly straightforward. There is a hollow section on the bogie, between the coupling and the wheels, however putting weight in it appears to result in the inside wheel lifting. Directly above where the bogie pivots would have seemed an obvious place to put some weight, but this is open from the sides. However it may have to come to putting the weights in there.
  16. One of the guys in our club has got a rake of 18, yes 18. They look good and run well on the straight section of our 30+ foot layout, but keep coming of on the curves.
  17. Overtook a Montego Estate today, long time since I have seen one of them.

  19. Like to think the guy in the grey suit is getting the walk of shame for even suggesting that Haymarket send its allocation of 47/7s to Eastfield, or even worse perhaps he suggested trying out a few 150 or 158s in the region!! The poor guy sitting at the table can't believe what he has just heard and can't even bear to look at him as he gets sent packing.
  20. Been a bit quiet recently as I have not been out to the railway for a while, my days off have been taken up with getting the house ready to put on the market. Hopefully we will put it up for sale in the next week or so. We really like the village we stay in, but with three girls we are looking for a bigger house (with a double garage hopefully). It looks as if we will be moving either into Perth itself or to another village near to it. We will just have to wait and see. The good news is the railway was built with a possible future move in mind. It will not be quiet as simple as dismantling and reassembling a club exhibition layout, but most the joins are hidden under removable tunnels etc and most electric were done with connectors to be able to avoid a complete rewire. Hopefully it should not be too problematic. Anyway better start the dismantling.................... after the Glasgow show anyway.
  21. Excellent work and great photos of HA. Am really looking forward to Bachman's large logo 47 coming out, may buy two, one to leave as is and one to get renumbered as Fife Region.

  24. The club was asked if it could supply a speaker for the recently formed Men’s Shed Project in Perth. At short notice our Exhibition Manager was able to assist. By all accounts the talk went down well and there was plenty of nostalgia for Perth’s once significant railway history. A joint station with LNER and large LMS sheds and before them North British, Caledonian and Highland railway influences…. Sorry I digress Seems the idea of Men’s Shed Project started in Australia, so I imagine Perth down under may have a few. Why a group of men would want to meet in a shed for a blether, DIY and building things is beyond me. Hold on is that not what I do every Thursday night!!
  25. We had out AGM last week, normally it is held a week or so before Christmas and includes mince pies etc, this year and from what I understand from now on it will be in January. As a result no mince pies. There was a good attendance from our growing membership and good chance to review the last year and make plans for this coming years. As a flavour of the kind of thing we discussed. We had a somewhat shorter than usual report from The Chairman, The necessary Treasures report. There was a review of where we are at with our existing layouts. Including the return of Burlington Central to the exhibition circuit as a one of. A discussion about a couple of new layouts, we are possibly looking at an HO German layout to fit on to one of existing our multiuse fiddle yards. And our exhibition manager gave us a quick overview of what is planned for our 25th exhibition this coming June All very exciting.
