  1. Two Irishmen were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up. A blonde walks by and asked them what they were doing Paddy replied, 'We're supposed to be finding the height of this Flagpole, but we don't have a ladder.' The blonde took out an adjustable spanner from her bag, loosened a fewbolts and laid the flagpole down. She got a tape measure out of her pocket, took a few measurements, and announced that it was 18 feet 6 inches. Then, she walked off. Mick said to Paddy, 'Wouldn't that be just like a blonde! It's the height we want, not the feckin' length.

  8. Gordon that looks really good. I have to say that this and the Peterborough North thread has spurred me on to try and achieve a much better standard of work, I stand at the drawing board this morning with the outlines of the new boards trying to work up a scheme incorporating the lessons learnt. Don't get the golf thing though.....

  11. It's a shame the new flyover (grade separation something?) doesn't have an Up slow to branch chord. Although a reversal at Hitchin is probably better.

  17. Today we opened our garden for the NGS (10 years this year) after everyone had gone we were sitting having a cuppa, bits of cake had been thrown out onto the lawn when we cleared up, for the first time we had Black headed gulls landing to feed, but as the garden has a lot of trees they were circling 2-3 times before descending, helicopter like, to grab and go. The local population of Jackdaws took offence to this Gull invasion so started to mob them, we noted that the behaviour of the Gulls changed and 2 led the Jackdaws off so the others could feed, then they swapped. Couldn't get to the camera without disturbing them, so let them get on with it.
  18. The video won't play, says it private.......ooohhh that could be a "different" sort of video !
  19. I find this thread interesting in the way you are making it it up as you go along, I'm a bit of a planner and have to have a pretty solid plan before I start or I get into all sorts of problems.......mind you, I still get them with planning ! Look forward to more on this thread.
  20. Henlow On the original Midland mainline from Bedford to Hitchin, also home to an RAF station.
  21. St Neots On the GN and now the largest and fastest growing town in Cambridgeshire.
  22. I haven't checked but I think RSPB and other's advice is for year round feeding, when feeding young the adults will search for live/soft food but other times it helps to keep numbers healthy. it also expands their habitat as lets face it, we keep taking it.
  23. Dunstable, In South Bedfordshire adjacent to Luton, probably armed for its own safety.
  24. How are they a pest ? They feed on roadkill, carrion and the detritus left by man, contrary to popular myth they do not try and snatch small dogs or children, they are barely able to lift off the ground with the weight of a small rodent. they are part of the food chain of nature, unfortunately in the past we interfered with that chain.............sorry we still do.... They have yet to recover to former numbers.
