  1. So, currently we're looking at a representation of a 'might be,' Doseley on the Telford Steam Railway. I want to mix my favourite elements of each station (building at Horsehay, fork arrangement at Lawley) to build a suitable micro. Baseboard wise, I'm debating whether to use a floating shelf I've got, or a Tim Horn board kit.
  2. Driving through Market Drayton from Newport on my way to work each day I approach it via the very scene you set out. A higgledy-piggledy assortment of buildings with a church looming from within would work very well, I agree. Can only echo the thoughts above, it's been a joy to watch this thread.
  3. Scott, the speed in work you work always astounds me! I can barely draw a plan (for something less than 4 feet) in 3 months and you decide on changes and then carry them out in no time at all! I really like where you've lifted the sidings to make them smaller. I really like the fresher ballast there as It makes a super contrast. Also have a sneaking fondness for the Mainline 37 in triple grey! (But, as a steam man myself, don't tell anyone)
  4. Thanks Luke. Details are below. Using Humbrol acrylics I started off by painting the inside of the wagon with no. 71. I didn’t make it a perfect coat, more of a base. Then, when it was dry, I splashed random blobs of nos. 63, 94 and 110 all around. Where I thought it was too dark I then dry brushed more 71 over the top. Finally I used a wash of number 67, removing the excess with cotton buds. That left me with what you see in the picture. However, if I was doing it on the outside of the wagon I'd make sure I followed the planks with my painting, rather than the scattergun approach I applied here. I think I overdid the 67 wash, particularly as it was hard to remove excess from the corners. I'd thin it more next time.
  5. Your wish is my command, Luke (I should probably start a workbench thread in all honesty). Here is the first one. The wagon itself is Parkside, the decals are the excellent Coast Line Models rub down variants (it isn't the right decals for the wagon but I'm not fussed about that) and the couplings are Smith 3-link. Finally, the wagon load is from the Dapol limestone range. Of course, once completed I had to place it with the Bachy model. I made a (deliberate?) mistake though. I weathered the wood inside, before then adding the load. I was pleased with the weathering effect (see below), but, as I was using it as a practice I wasn't too worried about covering it.
  6. Been debating resurrecting the initial idea of this thread. Few threads have offered inspiration, alongside the always amazing Juniper Hill. Been building some wagons I've built into Lilleshall company colours so it seems that a basis is there.
  7. If anyone has replaced buffers on these, is it easy to remove the buffer heads from inside the casing?
  8. Potentially odd question here. I own a Sentinel that is not the outside crank version. Do people think it would be possible/viable to turn it into the outside crank version?

Wow. As ever, excellent work Mark.
  10. Track looks super. Great job.
  11. Spent an enjoyable 30 minutes looking through this thread this morning. Not a modern image man myself, but I love the less is more approach to this model. Just the right amount of details and a lovely eye for colour. Top work.
  12. Edward was my ultimate favourite personally, however I was a big Oliver fan too. Then throw in Rheneas and Skarloey... Oh and Rex from the small railway.... Look forward to seeing your 812s.
  13. Likewise... But how do you pick a favourite?!?
  14. Just read this thread through. As a Shropshire-based modeller, Snailbeach is a place that I was aware of but never really looked into. Quite fancy a visit now.
  15. Looks excellent. I'd been toying with a fork ending in a gate too. Great space saver not using buffers. Ground cover is super too.
  16. More excellent work. The cab doors are a wonderful piece of detailing. Great thread. Thanks for sharing.
  17. My own personal reference would be on the platform. It looks right there and I think your argument regarding trailers backing up to the provender store works is perfectly reasonable enough to ensure the crane is correct on the platform. Great modelling; what locos are you planning to run?
  18. Wow! What a piece of modelling. Very glad you are back.
