  1. I have to agree on this, though maybe it's just personal taste. Maybe an 0-4-0 Alice or Pixie class would have been too much of a challenge engineering wise... Paul A.
  2. Impressed how quickly the painted samples have appeared, not so impressed with the axlebox size and the way the paneling has been done! FYI, they are outside bearings - hence the leaf spring... Paul A.
  3. good grief that's a lot of track to clean already! Very ambitious, best of luck Paul A.
  4. I can't see this model being done and dusted for a middle of year release IMHO Paul A.
  5. I've just trawled through this thread, and it is absolutely stunning. ......nothing more I can say! Paul A.
  6. If you're into kit building, anything by High level kits has a superb slow-running gearbox. But I'll second that the Model Rail Sentinel is also very good, the pug not so much Paul A.
  7. Make that almost trebled! Paul A
  8. I think this may be in breach of ebay conditions: This is listed with no photo one item and a mention of the other listing (and an auction): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/gwr-kit-built-finescale-broad-gauge-1830s-gooch-FIREFLY-2-2-2-loco-3x-coaches-/221169492923?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item337ebaa3bb The sellar has also listing this item, with a photo (and buy-it-now price): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/gwr-kit-built-finescale-broad-gauge-1838-gooch-FIREFLY-2-2-2-loco-3-coaches-lot2-/221170335551?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item337ec77f3f I did contact the seller, to ask if he was aware he was breaching ebay terms, but he stated he had 2 of them to sell... But I'll leave you to make up your own minds ofcourse. Paul A.
  9. I believe they are severely decreasing capacity & operations out of Hinksey, owing to the now completed phase two extension of Whitemoor LDC. Paul A.
  10. If you talking about the B4 sidetank, it could be worth unclipping the bodyshell and rotating the motor to it on its otherside. The trouble with the Arnold chassis is they have the habit of shedding gear teeth, so handle with care. Paul A.
  11. Very nice, Ironstone locos are just great "Cranford" eh? No 0-6-0 Avonsides round here... Paul A.
  12. Hi RT Any news on the 100hp Sentinel? Have you ever thought about doing some etches for a Hunslet 50550 conversion? with full-depth frames/buffer beams for your Austerity Chassis...Just a thought Another casting which may compliment your range could also be a water-treatment tube often fitted to the front of industrial saddle tank locomotives (see below for an example) http://www.rocks-by-rail.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/AB-2350-Belvoir.jpg Delighted to see someone producing Lambton cabs again! Paul A.
  13. Rivet counters will rivet count, modellers will model! I wonder if Farish were to produce a new class if we'd have been as vocal about any minor negative points (as seen in this thread)... Certainly their 60 did not appear to have much critisism when released, despite glaring livery errors! I guess it's a catch 22 - Dapol seem keen to encourage customer interaction over a forum like this whereas Bach/farish do not (or do so to a much lesser extent). Perhaps this is the reason we're so vocal about any minor imperfections, because this manufacturer opens up a dialogue so readily and will listen and accept/discuss our points. No bad thing in my eyes, but I can't help but think that the posts and posts of very minor negative points detract from the people who will have seen the images of the model and thought "wow!" Dapol deserve for this model to do well, If you're in 2 minds about it I urge you to see one in the flesh first - it is a cracking model. Paul A.
  14. Very nice indeed! I hope it sells well I'll stick with my CJM example however, which cost me the princely sum of £65 hehehe Paul A.
  15. It really is a tiny niche market though. I think the only way to approach this is for a group interested in buying several to approach the manufacturer directly and ask for a run of etches. Perhaps another factor is that cast detail parts in whitemetal etc can only be cost effectively produced in 4mm and 7mm scale. The added buying power of these markets makes these cast parts cost-effective to produce. Some people who perhaps model in N gauge or dabble in 2mm could then be put off by attempting to produce fittings or cast parts themselves where they are not available from N Brass locos etc. Paul A
  16. Sounds great to me Paul A.
  17. that boiler looks great, almost a shame to have it hidden away! Paul A.
  18. Hi Jack, Please do, it looks brilliant Paul A.
  19. That's your problem. The wheelbase is too small to span across the plastic frogs to make contact with the metal rail ends Paul A.
  20. As said that Sentinel really looks great! Could be worth having a few more printed to sell on at profit...i'd certainly be interested! Paul A.
  21. Hi there, I wonder is anyone could point me in the direction of 2mm scale custom nameplates (if such a thing exists?) The name is quite obscure ("Rhondda") so I asume a custom service is the only option... Many thanks in advance Paul A.
  22. Hi Jerry, I've only just discovered this layout/thread - and I must say that it is great, I especially like your Hudswell Clarke-esque 0-4-0 "Kimberly". Excellent work on the new locomotive, and it looks much better already for the new chimney and dome! All the best, and happy modelling Paul A.
  23. oh hey wow this is excellent! I think lead shot is the way forward with regards to adding weight, especially in N good luck Paul A.
  24. The GWR branchline terminus, complete with station, small shed and goods shed/coal yard The "depot" scene with overly-branded industrial buildings "EWS, DRS ect", in an unrealistic small space The modern station terminus, complete with half the layout as a MPD servicing only freight locomotives A large collection of rare locomotives and one-off spceials, all appearing togeather In general - too much stock and locomotives on the layout at one time perhaps also, a layout where something is always moving?
