I've used ash from cheap disposable barbecues on a couple of layouts, just lit them and let them burn so the ash is clean. Got some funny looks from the neighbours when I was out in the garden burning them in the middle of winter 😂

Have you ever rationalized your layout BR style?

A corner of my 009 layout has some disconnected sidings and a freshly ballasted section of track to suggest a point has been removed from the running line- 38 replies

Priory Park is another accidental side project that I started a couple of years ago with some considerable help from my girlfriend. It's purely a bit of fun and not meant to represent reality (although it has been inspired by the exchange sidings at Minffordd and a layout on RMwebb called Aberllyn) I haven't got a track plan but the first picture hopefully shows the basic idea, there are 4 separate areas, area 1 top right will be a junction station, area 2 bottom right is an exchange siding with a standard gauge line, area 3 bottom left will be a scenic area and area 4 top left is the standard gauge fiddle yard. I had hoped that it would fit on a 4'x2' board but I had to extend it to 62"x2'. So far I've concentrated on the exchange sidings and now that section is beginning to look presentable I have started this thread with a few pictures showing progress.

Picked up a Prince from Trains 4 U in Peterborough today, it's managed quite a few laps of the layout I'm building without losing any crankpins 😃

Postman has been today 😁 Only had time for a quick test on DC it's seems very quiet and smooth but didn't like some of my poorly laid Peco code 100 track. Photographed with a tri-ang 0-6-0 tank painted by father around 50 years ago

Steam locomotives that have never been moved by road?
92912 replied to G-BOAF's topic in Preservation
But did 73050 and Jack's Green move to Brotherhood's by rail?, they both definitely returned in light steam steam. This picture by the late Mike Bratley may be 1928 taking 73050 to Peterborough https://jpsgallery.zenfolio.com/p127423666/hf019a9fd -
I've just had a few 009 wagons to see how they compare and they are extremely good value and delivered in under a week. Doubt this will be my last order 😃 No connection, just a satisfied customer

Clun apparently visited the GCR in 1994 https://www.gcrailway.co.uk/2015/06/clun-castle-on-the-gcr/ -
Steam locomotives that have never been moved by road?

Several of Didcots stored locos possibly qualify, 7808, 6998, 6697 and even maybe 1361?. Also has Fire Fly been anywhere else? -

Don't think 73050 has been anywhere since it arrived in Peterborough under its own steam in 1968, although its tender has gone to the NYMR by road. Jack's Green (Hunslet 1953) may also qualify unless it was moved by road to Brotherhood's (local engineering company) for its overhaul, it certainly returned by rail. The Nene Valleys steam crane was delivered by rail and as it's self propelled??? And going way off topic, the turntable at Wansford was moved by rail from Peterborough East not road https://jpsgallery.zenfolio.com/p127423666/hef2df275 42073 at Lakeside may be another candidate? -

37003 did indeed receive the power unit/generator from 073 when it was at the EARM, most of the air tanks from 073 went into 37275 -
Hello John thanks for your comment, I haven't started a specific thread for this or my other layouts yet (like many things it's in the 'roundtoit' pile) but there are a few more pictures at https://jpsgallery.zenfolio.com/p501481377?fpciidx=7

These are made by my other half, they are glass jars covered in clay which is then baked to harden it. There is a plan to use them or similar on a 'fantasy world' 009 layout but the clay could be used to make scale building's etc

Hi 5050, the wasp stripes are Fox transfers on yellow paint, the transfers had to be cut into smaller pieces to get them to lie something like flat, think there are 8 sections on the back of the cab and rear bufferbeam. Here are a couple more pictures (apologies for the non industrial ones) the first is an aerial view showing the plan, the layout started as as goods yard but I found room to squeeze an exchange siding in (At the top of the picture) There are cassettes where the track leads off to the upper left & the scenic area is 20"x48". I've not had much time for modelling recently but I have been tinkering with this 3D printed RSH 14" kit from Hardys Hobbies, still some tidying up and of course a little weathering to do.

I've just had my first delivery and dispite some being custom packs they have been delivered unbelievably fast with regular email updates (shame certain box shifters haven't got such good customer service) they look good as well and will make some projects a lot easier so another big thanks from me
