I have just priced up the remaining work, to buy a new comet chassis, set of Markits, a high level gearbox and a mashima motor is looking like costing over £120! Fortunately I already have the bogie wheels and the axles...
Then there are the tender wheels and a tender sub chassis to get (another 16£). I am thinking I may have to go back to using Gibson’s which at least saves 15£
Time to search through the spares box and see if I have any motors or gearboxes remaining...

Thankfully I don’t need to worry about the snow, the winter timetable covers October to June, and the only reason I am looking at the 46/47 version is I can’t find the necessary documents for 47/48.
The layout is set October 47, late enough to get Hawksworth coaches and my ex works Modified Hall with Hawksworth tender, but before the leaves have fallen

I have gone for the other option, redrill and fill the holes

I’ve glued the roof on the wrong way round!

It's the ATC pickup
Thanks, I had a feeling it must be looking at photos of Finney parts on the Brassmasters site. The only thing was there is no part listed in the Mitchell instructions for an ATC pickup.
it makes reference to the bell/box that goes in the cab and the pipe that runs along the right hand side of the footplate, but that is it. Is the ATC pickup located under the bufferbeam somewhere (at the end of the ATC pipe?)

Opening line fixed.....
In comparison with my last etched kit from PDK, it is interesting just how much longer the build takes with the Mitchell product (due to the extra detail). I have a Finney 2251 which is at a similar stage and may get worked on yet (all be it as a P4 loco it is of no use to Brent). What I really need is a Finney Bulldog or two.....

Thanks, in that case the instructions are referring to the wrong part..... I think that is actually part 61 not part 59...
Will get it soldered on tonight between work and dinner.
I was planning to have a look at my Mitchell 43xx for inspiration, but you've saved me the effort.

Strangely despite doing a similar job a fair few times on etched kits, I have never thought to replicate it with wire and glue. Will file that away for the future...

If building them by the instructions give it lots of additional reinforcement, extra cross pieces will help keep the sides straight (else the have a habit of bowing inwards). The roof and floor benefit greatly from a length of U channel glued along the coach. The roof is by far the worst effected part (hence my adoption of a hybrid with Bachmann parts)
My only issue having bought as spares is no drawing to show roof detail

Strangely the 12mm disk pack that I need for the B5s always seems to be a lot more expensive than the 14mm pack, fortunatly I have a box full of wheels freed up from P4 wagon conversions so there should be enough in there to do a couple more of these.

Looking really good, I cant wait to see this finished.

Will be placing an order for those products in the new year to have a crack at mine (though prob not until Easter)
Thanks for sharing

Thanks,
I am rather pleased with it. The length of the wagon certainly gives it some presence on the layout, to the point of almost being too long. I am going to apply a similar logic to Ponts Mill, having the middle siding used for van loading and the rear siding for bulk powder, so upon arrival in the works a loco can run around its train, then separate the hoppers from vans and shunt accordingly (likewise for a mixed slurry / van set). Just the one twin will fill the whole van loading area.

Getting there slowly, though the lining stage will take a lot longer I suspect, likewise the glazing

From top to bottom
Centenary restaurant first
2 centenary thirds
A20 large window first
H33 restaurant
H26 70ft restaurant
Centenary compo
Somewhere in the mix is a centenary break (rh) and a restaurant third.
The LH centenary break is in the garage awaiting a respray of one side where the cream paint peeled off with the masking tape

Looking really good, and more importantly running well!
Expect to be needing to use this as a reference at some point when I finally give in to the fact that mine doesn’t run well enough...

I have yet to try the air range, though I would very much like to if I’ can find suitable colours
I have tried matching the German cam dark brown which looks pretty close to Phoenix GW chocolate. But it’s the GW cream I really want a source for, and I am not overly happy mixing colours. If only I had a local stockist of Vallejo paints at which I could have a closer look to see if there is a close match...
I am ammazed to have found an acrylic paint that I am happy to use, if only they would release a railway colours range!

Look forward to following this, as I have a few of these in the to weather pile...

Looking fantastic,
I cannot wait to see this in the flesh.

Silly error time, just went to add the number transfers after converting the no2 end, only to realise I haven’t filled a window!
-
I think that must be how I got them into my Dutch shark, I wasn't having much luck with this one so cracked out the Xurons and chopped the dammed things off!
I have two potential routes, carving out enough plastic to allow Bill Bedford units to fit (its a shame the base is so wide...) Option two is to chop up the chassis and rebuild from scratch, I think I have some scrap Cambrian parts somewhere which my help if necessary.

My aim was consistancy, hence keeping the existing windows and glazing. I am quite pleased with how it came out.
Replaceing the roe-vacs on all coaches is on the to do list once I have finished the underframes.
-
It is on the to do list one day, I wish I could find out how the GWR had intended to paint them. The only source being a crude b&w picture in the book published just before nationalisation detailing the GWs future plans, but it’s not clear enough to work from...

The yellow first stripe has now been painted on (by hand) there are two bits that need touching up on the side plus the red stripe. The latter I will try tomorrow with the transfer. Else it will be sprayed once I have masking tape.
The. Just need to add the door open lights. If I can find my Hurst models fret

Just spotted another error, I have missed off the droplights on the two corridor windows. They will be a quick fix when I get home from work before I spray the primer...
