I think it was a photo that I had found on eBay a while back, the number wasnt visible so it was based upon the text (and the livery was based upon lack of contrast between smokebox and boiler)
Will do some digging and try and find it again, annoyingly my electronic backup failed so I've lost all my scans!
-
I know, very annoying as I cannot for the life of me work out how to move it!

will it have lining I wonder...
I still have 4925 (currently in lined post war livery) which needs a respray into something more appropriate (my assumption from the works dates is that it would still be in black in 47). But I do plan to add a third Hall at some point in plain green livery.
Incidentally have just got home from work and given 6971 a good test through Brent, even with the missing rake it will still handle 8 coaches at a reasonable speed. Certainly nowhere near as weedy as I had expected. Now back to wiring...

Now refitted to the chassis, much better!
After 4 coats the bufferbeam still isn't red. Fingers crossed tonight will be the final cost...

Good spot
I've just found it on the floor under Brent, must have fallen off while I was drilling the frames

The last photo does show up one thing, in a lot of lighting conditions (in a photo at least) the error with the Bachman frames is not noticeable as it's lost in shadow. As per the photo where you can't see that I've fixed it!
Still, this has been an incredibly rewarding project, and has given me something which is much more mine than just opening the box. If you want a GWR modified hall I would really suggest having a go!

All lining was kept,
I included a full set of photos of the process on one of my King renumbers (6000 if i remember rightly). Cutting the plinth off the Model Master name plate with a Stanley knife and carefully filing until the bottom curve is fully cleaned up (taking care to go around the Castle Class plate). The new plate is then a direct overlay to the original, i believe on Spitfire I did make more of an effort than normal to thin the bevel around the edge of the original name.
I do still have another castle (ex Wellington) on which i do need to reline the plinth (to get rid of the "Castle Class" printing. a job that I am really not looking forward to!

I have seen a photo dated April 46, but my guess would be a repaint circa 43 or 44 given the time frame of the black locos.
-
An attempt was made at adding the lining this evening, but I think the transfers are just too far gone as they were not sticking to the paint at all.
So the question now is a decision between buying another pack of cantrail stripe transfers, or alternatively finally biting the bullet and buying a lining pen...

Looking forward to seeing it!

I haven't actually got around to painting it yet so no glazing. The bogies currently have P4 wheels fitted so it can't be used on Brent, (and I have never seen a photo of an auto coach through Brent)
The glazing will be Shawplan lazerglaze when I eventually do it

Edit to say I hadn't noticed the fall plate had broken off, now glued back on...

Tonight I tried to fit the decoder, (which wouldn't work). After testing the chip(which was fine) I discovered yet another Hornby wiring problem. The pcb has been wired so pin 1 is connected to the wheels rather than the motor.
Yet more useless Hornby wiring, I am starting to get to the point where the first thing to do on buying a Hornby loco is rip out all of the wiring!

Sorry for the delayed response. Only just spotted this comment.
I ordered initially and was told there would be a delay before I could place the order untill late Jan due to the owners holiday. There was then a further delay due to PDK moving workshops. So I suspect future orders should be a lot more prompt.
I am almost certainly going to place an order for another 42xx chimney in the coming months to replace that on the 72xx. It's certainly a marked improvement.
As for the king, if ordering modelmasters plates don't make the mistake I did and forget to order the separate pack containing the cabside medals. (Fox on the other hand include them in the same pack). Mine are currently on order and should be here soon...

The bracket for the vac pump on the left needs unsoldering and straightening out!

I survive on little sleep, finding an hour in the evening a couple of times a week to do a bit of modelling.
The real problem comes with jobs like track building or coach painting which need a lot more time to be productive. Hence I still haven't got the airbrush out, or built much more track since the baby arrived.
If only I could take it all to work when I'm in Spain!
-
Will add that to the todo list, I have a Mitchell chimney from a brass kit that sadly was ruined in a house move which might also be a good option...

85 people have viewed this blog, and your the first to point that out! I have no idea how that could have happened, but it will be sorted once I get home from the hate show! I think I have one G W R set of transfers left......
-
Now found model masters do make them, but it's as a separate etch. Typically st £2 it's also below the min order threshold. I wonder if they sell gun powder van transfers...
-
I have found out now that the fox plates would have came with the medallions, but the modelmasters didnt. Wish I had paid the extra couple of pounds...

Mr Adder,
A quick reminder. The other thing you have to do to get No. 6000 is to move the double red route code discs to below the number plate and add the B&O medallion replicas above it in their place.
Sorry if this is teaching granny to suck eggs as it were!
All the best,
Castle
Thanks, that is a detail I had missed. Although it looks as though it was also missed off the etched plates!
Will have to get comething commissioned I guess, unless anyone knows of something.
Rather annoying I hadn't decided to do this loco from one of my King James I, bit annoying to now be removing the dots having added them to my two other kings...

Thanks.
I have now added roof vents, and corrected my earlier mistake with the roof (firstly Coopercraft only had a brake third roof available, secondly I glued it on the wrong way round!). I've fixed this by carefully carving off the toilet hatch from the wrong side and scratch building two replacements for the compartment side.
Destination board brackets were also added to the roof from plastic strip.
Just need to add some underframe details (frogmore battery boxes, vac cylinders from my spares box), build the interior (I have the Slatters corridor wall along with dc kits seats) then it's ready for paint
-
Will watch with interest, given that I have a part built 2251 and high level chassis that will one day be finished with a CSB suspension

I hated the clerestory, so I don't really know why I bought another.

I never used to be much of a fan of black liveries, but it has really grown on me.
I now have a 4500, 42xx, grange and a star in black, with a ball going that way next. The only remaining black project will then be Newton Abbots 2721 pannier (when I have time to build the Finney kit) and Saint Dunstan in black with green tender.
