  1. Was there a car somewhere in that video....??

Don't think I'd ever get fed up of pics of Dock Green Chaz,it's just like visiting a favourite spot on the real railway (or at least in the 'old days'), the location was always the same but there was usually an interesting train or loco to see...! Keith
  3. I don't believe it (said in best V.Meldrew voice) We'll be up in Hampshire again that weekend..... Keith
  4. Personally I'd keep looking at Porkers...!!!
  5. That looks lovely! Well done for bothering, I think it was well worth it! There was a Metro Turbo in the same green colour on e-bay a couple of weeks back. I was sorely tempted, but swmbo, she say no....!! Keith
  6. I couldn't agree more! Only things that interest me now are historic rallying and Irish tarmac events - particularly Irish historic tarmac rallies! I love that reg. plate!
  7. Being pedantic, it hasn't been the RACMSA for quite a few years, the MSA now being a completely autonomous organisation separate from the RAC - who I think happily washed their hands of motorsport...!!
  8. I mentioned cycle races in my post #6134 above & don't know how they manage to get around the problem of exceeding the speed limit which apparently was the sticking point with motorsport events & needed the change in the law - do many runners exceed the speed limit - even 20mph...?
  9. Many military roads still used for stage events - around half a dozen every year on Epynt & 4 or 5 on Caerwent. Believe Otterburn is still frequently used too... Epynt also holds a two day hillclimb every year, reputed to be the longest on the UK mainland. Keith
  10. Don't know about stages around Hull, but would doubt it, as apparently the main problem in England and Wales was being able to suspend speed limits - I've never understood how top bicycle races get around that as they certainly exceed the limit in many locations! Maybe the Hull stages were in stately home grounds or public parks as they were often used... Mull I believe is as you say, but despite some googling, I haven't been able to find why the Jim Clak could get road closure orders.... Keith
  11. Indeed they did, although the future of that event is now in doubt, and they also have them for the Tour of Mull.I don't know what the difference in the law is for the Jim Clark, while the Mull is not on the UK mainland. The MSA has been campaigning for years to get road closure orders for the rest of the UK mainland. K
  12. Until the near future. A new law allowing for road closure orders for motorsport events has recently been passed & the first such order for a stage rally in Essex next year has just been granted. Many clubs are apparently interested in organising closed road rallies and hillclimbs
  13. Ha - just shows how bad my memories getting...!!
  14. I didn't recognise the sign either (did know it wasn't a level crossing one as they didn't have text on) so I googled to try & find an old Highway Code & failed! Don't recall having seen a gated road sign when driving, all cattle grids around here when I started driving in 1974. Keith

One other paint tip from the aircraft modelling world I forgot to mention last night Chaz, is that we often spray the edges of the masking tape with clear varnish before applying the colour coats, this hopefully seals the edges, and if there is any bleed under the tape it should be just the clear varnish. A tip for those Chaz - some fellow aircraft modellers have had problems with paint creep under them when used for their intended purpose straight from the roll. If you instead cut a piece off and stretch it gently, then burnish it down well, it does appear to work well. I've only used it once and it worked fine using it that way, but that might have been beginners luck! Tamiya also now do sheets of the excellent material their rolls of tape are made from. This might even work better on the flat bunker and cab sides - if you make an accurate tracing of the areas & transfer that to the sheet it might be easier to work on, on a flat surface away from the model? These are the sheets, if your local shop is a Tamiya stockist they should be able toget them I'd have thought... https://www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/5pc-masking-sheets-plain-tamiya-87130.html HTH Keith
  18. Yup, supposedly Mk1's - I can't say I ever actually saw one though.... The Mk2 RS2 had a bespoke nose, wings & bonnet as I understand it, so if they could graft it onto the saloon body, would it be any more difficult to do an estate? I agree it would have been great to see one to rival the Vauxhall droop snoot...!! I'm sure I've seen a 'home made' Mk2 RS2 van somewhere, so an estate should be possible? Keith
  19. Another incorrect DVLA record then! I always believed the (non bored out) engines in my Mex's were 1598cc. The Factory Original Sporting Escorts book has it as 1599cc. It's important as being under lets 'standard' Mexico's run in up to 1600cc classes in rallies etc.1601 would put them in with RS1800's & 2000's etc..!
  20. Was it one of the rare Mexico estates? (can't quite make out the badge with my eyesight now - even on the enlarged pic!) I seem to recall Boreham did a few RS2000's too (or were rumoured to have done!) Lovely car! Keith
  21. Last time I was there, same view had a blue Peak pulling into platform 3 - I was waiting for a direct train home, but instead jumped into one of the lovely blue/grey coaches it was hauling for a trip up to Parkway where I got out, & waited for the blue/grey 125 that I then got home!
  22. Yep, get hit by a Clubbie front end at any sort of speed & it's going to sting....
