  1. Has anybody got an recent update on what has happened to the current owner of the Keyser kits ? I think it is Autocom ?
  2. Thank you for the information. The Cambrian kit does come with the disc brakes ; they are designed to be glued onto three hole disc wheels. C/O = ''change over'' . I did mean to ask what that was !
  3. I am building the Cambrian Models kit (C23) of these as BBA. The old instructions are a bit ambiguous so some help would be appreciated : 1. Does anybody know if there are two tanks and two cylinders fitted to the wagons on both sides or just one of each on one side ? I have been looking at the Paul Bartlett photos but it is a bit hard to tell what is going on underneath the wagons. 2. Are the two brake C/O levers both fitted to the same end ie. are they opposite each other ? 3. The buffer fittings come with two flat ''steps''. Should these be fitted facing up and down or sideways ? If there was only one flat step then I would put it on top but I am not sure what they are. 4. Can you buy the steel rolls and cradles separately from anybody ?
  4. Yes, but I have just checked the latest Gibson listings and it does not appear to be on there any more. Quite strange that nobody does this loco kit.
  5. That is suitable for covered vans but is not a good idea with open wagons though is it ?
  6. What sort of plastic is the draft gear box made of ? I am wondering which glue is the most effective ?
  7. Does anybody else do a kit of a GWR Dean Single either in white metal or etched brass ?
  8. I once complained to ebay about non delivery of an item from the US (not model railways). Nothing was done ; the seller was a ''power seller'' and was allowed to continue with no penalty imposed at all. I am afraid that ebay is pretty much open slather for businesses but things can be much more restrictive for private people using the site. Just a word of warning ! My guess is that in this case the shop has miscalculated the delivery times but decided that he may as well let the ad stand.
  9. I am quite surprised that neither Bachmann or Hornby followed up the success of the City class loco with another pregrouping GWR loco in Indian red/ green. It is a popular colour scheme that appeals to both pregrouping modellers and the many people who model the later GWR. A decent Dean Single would be a good place to start and not that awful ''Lord of the Isles'' from the 60's. Even better might be a 2-2-2 as some have converted the LOTI into one of these and it is a very smart looking loco. Perhaps a Dean Goods with round boiler or even a 517 class tank loco...all in red/green of course ! I prefer the Midland Railway but I can live with the red/green colour scheme of the GWR.
  10. How was the lining done on this loco ? Did you use a bow pen, lining pen or transfers ? How did you remove the molded handrails ? Did you just cut them off with a scalpel ?
  11. These are legitimate concerns, especially the mold lines. There should not be any mold lines on an RTR model. We cannot get rid of them once the model is painted so the manufacturer should take the time to remove them before the model is painted even if this means charging a bit more. Does anybody have some recent photos of the display model so that we can check the above complaints ?
  12. No, it says ''out of stock''.
  13. Well, they are all gone now. Wow...that was fast ! How many days did they have them available ?
  14. I assume that there will be a second run of these ? Was there a second run of the City of Truro ?
  15. So the Dean Single must be one of rarer kits on the market. I do not care if they struggle to pull 3 coaches ; I would like one. There is nobody curently making a kit for this model which I find rather strange given the popularity of modelling the GWR.
  16. I think the UK wages would stop that from happening. I suggested Thailand and Vietnam because their wages are cheaper than those of China. There are quite a few companies shifting their production facilities to places other than China.
  17. What are the smallest electrical plugs available to connect wires between the tender and the loco ? Does anybody do anything smaller than the Tamiya micro mini plugs ? I am not quite sure how big these are. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-Micro-Tamiya-battery-connector-plug-socket-20AWG-/130386758909?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e5ba80cfd
  18. What is this kit then ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KEYSER-KIT-OF-GWR-DEAN-4-2-2-RE-LISTED-/261329901187?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3cd879d683 He has described it as a Keyser kit ? He will not post overses though, otherwise I would bid for it.
  19. I quite agree. I only mentioned those models because they have been Hornby's sole attempts at pregrouping. The Dean Singles still sold quite well despite the poor front bogie. The longer clerestory coaches in the Flying Dutchman train pack were quite well done though. It is not beyond Hornby to do a good job on a model but I think they have just gotten lazy and prefer to take the easy route when it comes to new models. Maybe it is time they set up their own factory in Thailand or Vietnam so that they can get better control of their production.
  20. I am surprised the Hornby have not realised the untapped potential of the pregrouping era. They have done the GWR Dean Singles with Indian red under frames but not much else. Given the popularity of GWR modelling I would have thought pregrouping GWR locos with red underframes would always be a sure thing when it comes to sales. NOTE : Locomotion will deduct VAT for overseas sales of locomotives in case anybody was wondering.
  21. I think we might expect to see Bachmann do that version a bit further down the track ; it would look great in crimson lake. Did it have the full lining ? I assume that Bachmann know of this variant ?
  22. 1. I have just found out that K's made a kit for the GWR Dean Single. Does anybody have a photo of a completed kit ? Ihave never seen one before. Anybody got a kit for sale ? 2. I have received my Midland Single kit from an RMWEB member and I am very impressed. It has great instructions with exploded drawings. All kits should be like this. My kit is loco drive, however other discussions about the K's Midland Single kit mention tender drive. Did they produce two different versions of this kit ?
  23. I do have his address but as I live in Australia it would be much quicker to use email or the telephone.
  24. Who makes/sells a 4mm GWR class 517 loco kit ? I have tried sending David Geen emails but I do not get a reply. I did see an Alan Gibson kit for sale but I cannot access the website for some reason. It sold on ebay for big money ! Does he still make them ? Is there anybody else that could sell me one ?
