So what is the best tool for a beginner : a lining Pen or a good quality bow pen ? Or is it a case that you have to try them both and see for yourself ?
Okay, so not quite the perfect pair to run together (BoBo and LT Pannier). It does seem quite strange that Heljan would produce a loco for which there are no matching coaches ? Still, many people have bought one ...or two
1. I am seeing quite a number of different coaches run with these locos. Which are the correct BR coaches if you are modelling the 1950's ?
2. Did these locos ever work freight or parcel trains during the 50's ?
3. Which version of the BoBo can be run correctly beside the London Transport panniers ?
Do you feel that this BG fiasco has damaged Heljan's reputation ? I did have my eye on their London Transport Metropolitan BoBo but it is not cheap and I do not want to risk the money after reading about all their problems with the Garratt motors.
Was the Hornby 3.5 inch live steam Rocket loco any good ? I had a second hand one many years ago but I could never get it to work properly. I suspect that there was some damage there somewhere. Does anybody regularly steam one on their garden layout ?
1. What sort of coupler is on the loco in the photo ?
2. What sort of couplers will be used on the model ?
3. I want one now ! How long do I have to wait ?
In view of the delicate and complicated nature of this loco then Hattons might consider extra wrapping/packing for this item. It might save them money in the long run and avoid disappointed cutomers.
Can this silicon tubing be used to conduct live steam from a boiler to a stationary steam engine ? I am thinking of using it on a temporary basis for testing purposes. The working temperature is from minus 60 to 180 degrees celsius :

There are a number of books in this series relating to using the lathe. Which one would you recommend for a beginner ? I am thinking of buying both #34 and #43.
I see that Dart Castings do a 9 leaf wagon spring #2284. I was thinking that they might suffice. Any opinions on this ?

Yes, that struck me as very odd too. I am guessing that they think UK modellors have come to accept locos without lights and so they did not bother. But surely all shunting locos would have had lights as a safety feature ?
Yes, I quite agree. The windows may not be that great and coloured plastic is definitely a step backwards but for 45 pounds I think we can all live with it especially as some of us intend to spray it anyway. Nice to hear that it runs well at slow speeds.
. Having just got a non sound fitted Europa Hornby 08 cheap for the master, I thought I should make a start on the slave.
How cheap is cheap ? All the second hand ones I see on ebay are almost the same price as a new one ! The 08's certainly hold their value. I live in Australia so we do not have too many OO gauge swap meets here.
I thought that the 08's were pretty powerful shunters so what sort of loads required the extra slave units ?.
How thick is the plastic on that side panel ? I am thinking of cutting it off as some of the Sentinels did not have it and I think they look better without it. I intend to respray the whole thing in black or dark grey.
Yes, those front windows look a bit dodgy !
All of my wagons are fitted with 3 link couplers. If I were to fit Kadees then the 3 link couplers would have to be removed. Does anybody make a plastic hook which could be fitted to the end of the wagon for appearance sake ? I have not seen anything on the market.
