  1. With the LNER 6 Plank on the way with an expected release around August 2016 and the second lot of announcements on Saturday, dare I wonder if we will be graced with GWR, LMS or SR Open now?
  2. LNER Cattle wagon are expected for release during August 2016..!! Very exciting times ahead...
  3. More wagons getting ready for refurbishment work now...!! Plenty of odd and unique wagons included...

  4. Yes Didcot's is painted up in post-36 livery as is the example at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway. SVR's is painted up as when she was built in 1913. I don't know if these maybe of use, but I happened to take several photos of SVR's GWR China Clay Wagon 94059 from the prior, during overhaul and after overhaul. Also 94059 was an ex-Port of Bristol Authority wagon arriving at the SVR on 08/09/1975. Gareth.
  5. Thanks Bill, that means I can now replicate 75036 for the first one and either 20261, 93792, 83721, 17071 or 6469 for the second one that are in Midland Wagons Vol.1. To be honest Spit, I always thought this one to be a Slaters wagon because of it's Midland Railway origins. I bought it in a wagon lot several years ago on ebay but I wouldn't know it's maker I'm afraid. I always happen to come across the rare and unusual wagons without me knowing...!!
  6. I've two Midland Railway Opens that are going away for refurbishment work but I need to know what diagrams they belong to. Can anyone identify them for me please?
  7. Prior to this I was actually looking into the upcoming Hornby release of the N2 4765 in LNER Black only a few days ago and I never knew that whilst the body originates from when it was first brought out in the 80s, they were never made with a cab interior for this model. Since learning that, the N2 has come off my pre-order lists for now... A shame really as 4765 looked ever so attractive despite the missing cab interior... Ah well it's money I can put to something else...!! If one of the iconic LMS Brake Vans was to be looked at then maybe starting off with the D1890 diagram? I'd still though like to see an upgrade of the D1919, 2036, 2068 and 2155 as like the GWR Toads, these are now in desperate need of a fine tuning... Milk tankers and wagons I would most certainly appreciate. Whilst I do find the Hornby ones very attractive with their various liveries of the different dairies, I find the chassis let them down. If they were to look at a Milk Tank or Wagon then perhaps SR Milk Tank 4409 or maybe the more 'exotic' GWR Rotank 3030 both down at Didcot...?
  8. An LBSCR E2 I'd very much like to see even if it's not at the top of my Most Wanted. I certainly ain't going to get a Hornby Thomas and give it the time to do up. And you've even answered my question autocoach over the licensing...!! I do sometimes wonder though if Hornby continually releasing the E2 as Thomas as made other RTR companies weary of doing this model. I've heard that Cambrian's D1410 Van should be out within the next few months. Either way I'll welcome it regardless of being RTR or kit. Almost thought we'd see it appear on Oxford's range this year following their Adams release...!! For Private Owners, I'm looking at Salt wagons currently. Really irritating to still see the Bachmann Salt wagon coming out with a steel underframe. From what I recall the majority of salt wagons were built on timber frames? Keeping on the theme of timber framed stock, a tank wagon would be nice to see as well. Buying those Turton was such a bad idea for me, but then I could say that about alot of my other rolling stock books...!!
  9. Some very good choices indeed Dunsignalling. The LMS D1840 or even their later sisters (D1994) I'd most certainly welcome these days as Bachmann's poor attempt no longer does the LMS Cattle wagon justice...!! Other LMS wagons though that come to mind are: LMS Banana Van LMS Iron Ore Hopper Wagon LMS Brake Vans Midland Railway Opens and Vans LNWR D88 Goods Van and Opens Caledonian D67 Outside Framed Goods Van A new tooling for a GWR Siphon is long overdue now as is the GWR Toads. As I've said previously, a GWR Iron Mink would make a welcome addition to the GWR Dean Goods considering these wagons started to emerge from Swindon's works around the same time as the Deans themselves. A wide variety of liveries and I imagine the opportunity for some LTDs including the 'Save for Victory' livery. I'd also like to see GWR Mink F but I'd imagine this to be an inclusive like the Hattons ICI Hoppers. Whilst I like the idea of the steel build GWR Grano, their earlier sisters from the V20 diagram would be interesting as well. Other GWR wagons: MICA A and B MINK A, B, C, D, G to varying diagrams. OPEN A, B and C to varying diagrams. MACAW to varying diagrams GWR Milk Tanks (LMS, LNER and SR as well to save me typing it again...!!) For LNER, the TOAD E, LNER Wooden Framed Goods Vans and more pre-grouping LNER stock would be great to see. Now Oxford has opened the door with the NB 4 Plank here's hoping pre-grouping get's more attention...!! As for the SR, before November 2015 my main desire was an SR Cattle Wagon and since those prayers were finally answered by Hornby announcing the Maunsell and Bulleid Cattle wagons last year, I now have to look for something else to pray for that is Southern related...!! Since Cambrian are doing the LSWR D1410 Van, maybe their sisters from the D1409 diagram to avoid duplication? LSWR, SECR and LBSCR Vans and Opens would make worthy and I imagine a popular entries considering locos like the E4 and Adams are now on the market...! I must also add that I hope Oxford Rail continue to expand on their range of Private Owners over the next few years. After having taken a look through several volumes of Keith Turton's wonderful books on the subject whilst sorting through my old Mainline, Replica, Hornby and Bachmann stock makes me hope we see the range of Private Owner wagons expand...!!
  10. Having received the latest Bachmann GWR Toads today, I certainly do think they are now in need of a new tooling. Either that or an alternate diagram such as a AA3 would be good to see. I don't know if anyone has suggested it prior but a new Salt Van with a timber chassis rather than steel like Bachmann's would do nicely as well.
  11. I reckon at somepoint, the unfitted example and much desired 10ft will be done. Whilst I hope it won't be long before a 10ft comes out, I'm just happy to see Oxford finishing off the cattle wagon scene following Hornby's SR Maunsell and Bullied Cattle wagon annoucement last year... In the meantime, we've got to patient and wait. At the end of the day patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait no matter how long it takes...
  12. An update on some of the Parkside GWR Banana Vans that were purchased last year. Two have now been built by my friend, with one of the two getting it's side diagonals removed and replaced with ones that face upwards as portrayed by GWR 95079 in GWR Wagons on P.448. Garethp8873.
  13. I see Bachmann's attempt at doing the LNER 6 plank Open has now started now appeared on the market. When compared to what Oxford Rail have got planned, I know who will be having my money. I just now hope we see Oxford follow up now with GWR, LMS and SR Opens...
  14. I received LNER 3962 yesterday from supplier. Haven't run her in yet but so far I'm impressed with her
  15. I received my intitial four GWR Collett Bow Ended todays and now waiting on a GWR Collett Coach Corridor 3rd. I've also got the The Bristolian Train Pack on pre-order which should build up a good looking rake once they arrive Very impressed with them. Excellent quality and liveries and well worth the wait and withdrawal symptoms... A question though as I said I'm getting all five individually released Colletts plus the ones in the Bristolian pack. Would the eight coaches make a standard rake or would I need to pick up any extra of a particular one?
  16. I knew it was a good idea to purchase two Bachmann Express Dairy Vans. Now 48323 can have a sister in 48359...!!

  17. Might as well throw it out as you never know... a wider variety of Grouping Container loads...?
  18. GWR Toads are long overdue now. The Bachmann/Mainline mould has done a good job but now it's in need of replacing. Sticking on the subject of GWR wagons, Ballast wagons and Chaired Sleepers would make a good choice too. The LSWR D.1410 or their sisters the D.1409 would be good choices for pre-grouping SR. I agree John, a new tank wagon would be very much welcomed on the market. I wasn't impressed with Dapol's attempt at the doing rectangular tanks and so far I've stuck with kit built versions which I think look more the part. I only replace kitbuilt stock with RTR if I find the quality of the RTR versions better than what I currently have in kitbuilt.
  19. For GWR, I'd have to go with the Iron Mink. 6000 built, several turned into improvised Gunpowder Vans during WW1 and WW2. Design was also took on by several other companies so also a chance to see a wide variety of liveries come about besides the GWR ones. An added bonus of the GWR modeller would be finally seeing a Iron Mink with the WW2 'Save for Victory' livery on it...!! LMS, either a new LMS Van or a D1661 Open. Since Hornby and Oxford have answered my prayers on the Cattle Wagon front, LNER would be a Toad E and SR a Banana Van or 5/7/8 Plank wagon. As to pre-grouping theme, either a LNWR Dia 88. Goods Van, LSWR 1410 Van or my favourite pre-grouping wagon, the Caledonian Dia.67 Outside Framed Van The desire for the Caledonian Van stems from the fact I can see two preserved CR Vans on the Severn Valley which is my local preserved line. Sadly though this won't be the case soon as 304543 and 302080 are soon to be relocated to the Ferryhill Railway Heritage Centre in Aberdeen. Mind I've loads of photos of them so I can't complain...!!
  20. Exactly. With reason, I imagine goods yard managers would've used whatever wagons were currently around and capable of doing the job required.
  21. Bromley, London and now Porthmadog. Can't say no to getting one or two now... Possibly, I've seen a photo of a Caledonian Outside Framed Van in LBSCR territory in the early 1920s. The way I look at it is wagons went wherever they were required. That's my philosophy when it comes to wagons. For example, I've recently picked up some Caledonian Dia.10 Medium Cattle wagons from the Caledonian Railway Association's True Line Models range. Initially I wasn't sure why a Caledonian Cattle wagon would be down in the Midlands area so far away from home. Eventually I thought of the idea that a farmer down South wants to breed Highland Cattle or even the wagon is part of a farm removal train which are good enough reasons. I could even use the Aberdeen Steak excuse but I don't know if that'd work as well...!! At the end of the day, don't let liveries hold you back.
  22. LNER Wagons Vol 4A and 4B are very valuable assets John, infact all the books are. I fully recommend them.
  23. Quite the contrary John, the CLC had five Dia.39 LNER Cattle wagons built for them by Charles Roberts in 1928 for £210 (the details of these are in my previous post). There was also fifteen Dia.40 built by Charles Roberts in 1928 and numbered 4476 to 4490. Of the Dia.40, LMS had 4486 to 4490 and 4476/85 went to LNER ownership and were numbered 545687 to 545696 with one of these lasting at least til June 1963. On P.294 of LNER Wagons Volume 4B, there's a photo of one of the Dia.39 in CL livery. I must admit I never knew about this interesting fact until I purchased Volume 4B last year. Since then it's been something I've wanted to add to my growing collection of one off wagons...
  24. Following me re-reading the chapter in LNER Wagons Volume 4B on the LNER Cattle wagon, I think my original pre-order of 1 will have to be increased. Looking at having two done to represent the 5 LNER Dia.39 examples (CLC 4471/75) that were built for the Cheshire Line Commitee and then eventually passed to LNER and LMS ownership (LNER 545684 to 545686 whilst 4474/75 went into LMS hands). However the chapter only gives information on the LNER examples and nothing on the LMS ones. Does anyone have any information on the numbers the LMS gave them? Abit of a gamble I know but does anyone know if all five lasted until 1948 as well?
  25. So far North British practically represents my Scottish rolling stock. I do have others including a Caledonian Outside Framed Goods Van but don't use them either because of them being whitemetal (because the vast majority of my wagons are plastic build and not as heavy as the whitemetal models) or the wagon needs refurbishment work before being allowed to run on my layout. Like yourself, before I decide on whether I will purchases certain wagons or not I will look in the books and see where these wagons were photographed. At the end of the day I try to remember a wagon would go where it was needed regardless of it's company and livery. My knowledge only stems to what the NB 4 plank did during the NB/LNER era. This wagon in question is a North British 8/10T to SSA diagram 16B. The 16B diagram was built from 1896 onwards and by 1947, 252 10T and 74 8T assigned to Loco Coal duties were still around. Photos show them mainly around Scotland but one is shown going as far as Bromley in London still in North British livery in 1933...!! Liveries include North British and pre/post1936 lettering.
