  1. Some of the early ones were a sticker, the ones on DMU cab windows been a good example. Al Taylor.
  2. BG was short of DMUs at this time due to a the Trans Pennine and Mini Pennines suffering with gearbox and engine problems, Derby and Swindon couldn't supply them fast enough. So the Met Camms were covering for them, and some of the jobs up the branch were covered by using the Leeds and Doncaster parcels sets coupled together and on occasions the trailer cars from the Pennines. Al Taylor.
  3. 43008 had 8 million on it went from VXC to GNER so by 2016 would have run a couple of million more by then. I did have on my work laptop the milages ran by all the ECML and XC power cars since conversion to MTU. KBRS wsp rack recorded miles run so was a reasonable guide to what each power car had run. Al Taylor
  4. Leeds Aberdeen KGX Leeds was booked for fuel at Aberdeen purely as a precaution if dropping on to one engine. When the ECML fleet was MTU fitted it was looked at extending the range to 1200+ miles but with the advent of the low sulphur fuel this affected the fuel efficiency so this option was not taken up. An HST on one power car would be limited to a range of around 650 miles if starting out on one power car.
  5. It has full yellow end, the look above the cab front window, the yellow finishes level with the upright side of the same window not as the later finish with about an inch of yellow beyond the window.

  7. The 03/04 in multi where also used in the Leeds/Bradford area. Various cables and pipes passed between vehicles of which was a throttle cable was one, believe a gear cable was also used.
  8. The curtains in Second class where a dark green and first class a strange grey/fawn colour when in green livery.
  9. Eddie, the Birmingham's still made the odd appearance up the branch as Neville Hill still had a few allocated after Botanic lost it's late 75 (most went to Norwich in exchange for Met-Camms). Al Taylor
  10. Various locations did the work DML, Rosyth and several ADtranz locations.
  11. Humbrol paint went rapidly downhill once it ceased to be manufactured n Hedon Road Kingston upon Hull.
  12. Yes they where bigger and a totally different typeface. Al Taylor.
  13. I joined the Inter City training department around the time the contract for CDL was awarded to ABB, this was mid 93. Various locations did the fitment, with LHCS going as sets with the odd spare going too, testing was carried before release. HST set went in loco hauled with barrier, testing done before release. However when power cars were attached to some sets problems started as some of the existing cabling had been damaged when fitting the CDL looms. Al Taylor
  14. 400ers came a few times to use the excursion set when the Doncaster test train wasn't available. Al Taylor.
  15. Suspect the date is wrong, the Pennine vehicles were very quickly removed for disposal from BG. As someone who worked at BG I don't recall any lingering around past the end of 1984. Al Taylor.
  16. The older wheel lathes like the Atlas type use a milling type cutter as opposed to the Hegenshiedt MFD ones that use a single cutting tip. Cutting can very from a light skim to taking quite a lot of material off depending on the damage and other things found when turning and how much needs to come off to get other wheelsets to parity.
  17. One would think that the vacuum reservoir would be there to aid the release of the brake not the application. Al Taylor.
  18. They aren't the normal lamp brackets on 1570, it has the usually ones attached on the buffer housing............
  19. What ever the purpose of those brackets, one on no2 end survived till withdrawn, and the ones at no1 end had gone by 1981. Al Taylor
  20. Various mods were done to the speedo by BR in later years, the main one been the fitting of an electronic system. A speed probe was fitted on the gearcase of no2 traction motor and a new meter case fitted in the cab. The original speedo was driven off the side rod not axle driven. The whole speedo generator was combined with a mileage counter. Al Taylor
  21. Suspect that is the Donny breakdown train, note the 75ton crane behind the bridge. Al Taylor.
  22. Seen several vans were the canvas had been renewed on wagons that had come in to Dairycoates WRD for that repair only. Al Taylor
  23. When I did my trainer the trainer course for the 60s it was definitely a snowplough. The 156 and 158s have both obstacle and snowploughs, generally Scottish and ex Scottish ones.
