  1. Looks like whilst work was going on to convert the depot for DMU use. Scaffolding nearly in view for 1 & 2 road plus the Hymers side of 5 road. Al Taylor
  2. Vac pipe under the secondmans side steam pipe under the drivers side.
  3. Finally got my 6702, it looks just the part. Seems to run on Dc at lot better than most of my blue box Type 3s, fit the decoders when the others arrive. Just needs weathering in to the condition it was in in the late 60s when allocated to Tinsley. Will get that done when the other two (6703 and 6704)arrive. I did think at one stage I had ordered another 6702 but the pre order was added on to a later 0rder for 6702..........
  4. Those horn grills are green and the buffers heads should be light grey not silver. but its your model.
  5. They are lateral suspension dampers......... Al Taylor.
  6. Most were, but it soon came off on the outer part. A few got polished up also.
  7. The service was a Paddington -Hull/lLeeds with the return Leeds/Hull- Brighton which was a 3 day MA coaching stock diagram.
  8. They did have a 36 way jumper socket in the nose end, most had been removed by 1987, those that hadn't were disconnected in the cab bulkhead junction box. A very long 36 way jumper cable was originally provided in the emergency cupboard in the van area along with the two emergency drawbars and other related equipment. Al Taylor
  9. The stock came from various sources on the Friday evening and in the early hours of Saturday morning. Some was Eastern stock , some LM. The locos came from various places including a couple of Western named 47s. Some of the stock had been used on the previous days trips to London and these would also see use the following Sunday with the return workings from the Friday trips. The Deltic is on the scheduled 0700 Kings X service. Paddington and Marylebone destinations were used purely as a capacity issue at KGX. Al Taylor
  10. The Gas Works was at Saville Town so would be connected off the L and Y.
  11. The tankers from Saltend, went to various places in the north, but the block workings were more often Cowlick, Deepcar, Dewsbury. Al Taylor
  12. The real "car headlight" and the later "high intensity headlamp" are the basically the same thing it just the method of mounting/and adjustment that is different. I have replaced the halogen lamp in enough of them. And they are not sealed beam lamps. Al Taylor
  13. Possibly empty stock coming from BrIdlington of Filey holiday Camp going to seven section at Dairycoates, as empty stock was often stabled there in this period.. Al Taylor
  14. Hi all, Does anybody know if any one makes an etch for these. Want to upgrade some old Hornby bodies that had been converted to 25s with can't rail filter grills. Regards Al Taylor
  15. remember working on those as an apprentice at York. cannot recall 434 having the headlamp fitted at either end but the switch was in the respective cabs. 432 and 523 both had the headlamps fitted and did work, but the fitting that was used were not to brilliant and would cause problems . It is possible that 434 did have the headlight fitted at Crewe but was removed and a the blanks fitted there due to the faulty fittings. Al Taylor
  16. Possibly not as both the newer cooler groups have spare capacity, and the cab air con is also a bit better than the old unit.
  17. Always though it had ten grilles on one side and nine on the other. Al Taylor
  18. As one of the owners of said loco and rode on it from Toton to Dairycoates ( which went via the avoider At Donny) on the day I know exactly where it went that day. I also rode on it when it was moved from Dairycoates To Botanic and from Botanic to Brush at Loughborough. Al Taylor
  19. That's okay. Some very excellent work in all the research.
  20. Nothing to do with the 40s brake force, the train was only partially fitted even though it was thought by certain staff to be fully fitted........
  21. Have managed to read through this excellent tome. Quite a few very interesting facts about the early days of these locos, a lot of which I was aware of. However two very small errors in the later days, 45125 is listed as not having a headlight it certainly did as the fittings it currently has are the originals. Also when it was moved from Toton by 56075 West Yorkshire Enterprise (0Z45) driven by Tinsley driver Mario Carrington and Inspector Steve Freeman from Tinsley Went straight from Toton to Dairycoates it didn't stop at Doncaster.
  22. Not poorly adjusted, just very badly set up after tyre turning. Have seen a few poorly adjusted brakes on EE4s and Peaks. Was always told as an apprentice when blocking these to adjust the piston travel with the block on the wheel so the casting sand would rub off giving the right clearance, as the slack adjusters were very poor as taking up block wear.
  23. Class B would also be used for transporting Lub oil. Gas oil would also be used for fuelling the depot boilers. Al Taylor
  24. The biggest problem running through floodwater(currently) is the water that is picked up by the wheel pan. This can bypass the seals on the roller bearings and contaminate the grease. Which can ultimately cause bearing failure with potential catastrophic results. Al Taylor.
