March to Wisbech Re-opening
berwicksfinest replied to stivesnick's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
This all day long !! Driving across this most days I am still at a loss as to what they are going to do and how it will improve things. and even if and thats a huge IF, they will improve the flow of traffic, it'll only shift the problem 4 - 5 miles down the road to Tesco roundabout and Elme Hall roundabout -
As a DBC Driver who has more than once had the Brandon service this is not true at all the DBC box wagons were actually swept out after the grab had done the business. this was done by a little cherry picker type effort, usually hurried as they did cut it very close to departure time. As far as i'm away these wagons have never been used on the Middleton service (yes another one of our Peterborough turns) The "scrap" as they touted are the ex Ely Potter wagons that have had multiple coverings of the glue to stop the sand blowing out, so actually look terrible now. P.S we have also had MBAs and Ex EWS Coal hoppers (these did contaminate the sand and didn't last long)

Exactly very rarely the customer likes being told what to buy and how to do it

I am sure we can remember in the 1;1 railway world when EWS told Royal Mail what service they were going to provide them like it or not what service they were going to provide. what happened. Personally speaking I have rang Hornby asking about spares for my Class 60, the young lady came across as not really bother, nothing she could do nor suggest. Tier 3 for Hornby!! And dare I rekindle the Cavalex Class 91 debate whereby Hornby over ruled the little guy, Exactly what Hornby are accusing Hattons of doing !! As for Mr Kohler, personally i have no time for him, he comes across as very nice yet its my way or the highway. End result everyone seems to lose. Shame

I wish you had of passed me !! unfortunately I was 03.00 of Donny Belmont with 6Z69, was tucked up in Peterborough West Yard before the fliers started

Without wishing to go off topic, all your manual transfer pumps on an 08 It takes a Peterborough Driver with ingenuity !!! open forward facing window attach strong twine or similar to window wiper. and turn window wiper on ........ voila, air operated fuel transfer pump that you don't need to touch all shift.

Class 66 derailment
berwicksfinest replied to Craig1989's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
I would like to add to the above, The Driver always can give the opportunity the Traction inspector to behave more appropiately, and always reserves the option to "drop them off at the next station" and to be fair I can name twice this has happened -
March to Wisbech Re-opening
berwicksfinest replied to stivesnick's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
I woiuldn't say removed, its basically just left to fall apart. And pre-covid the Wisbech bypass between Tesco roundabout and Elme Hall was resurfaced eliminating the crossing. Again back in the day I can assure everyone as I brought the Spillers traffic into Wisbech this definitely was a heart in you mouth crossing, As this was an open crossing !!!! and the amount of near misses I had let alone the other lads was silly. The local populace seemed to think they were a lot tougher than a Class 56 !!! Taking on another point as I have said I live in Wisbech, Where are these 14,000 new homes actually going ?? -
March to Wisbech Re-opening
berwicksfinest replied to stivesnick's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Nick. I probably should of expanded on my reply. I live in Wisbech, and also I am a Train Driver, I was the second to last Driver to bring the Petfood off the Wisbech Branch. so I hope that I am a little more clued in (1) As I have said on a different forum, A railway is used for moving freight and passenger. Freight: I am not aware of any industry nearby that would need the capacity of freight trains (remember Spillers, now Nestle purina stopped using rail) Passenger: We have a pretty robust bus service Excel to Peterborough/Swaffham/Norwich. I have yet to see any bus anywhere near full . Same goes for the March service, so the question remains How are you going to make a train profitable. (2) 14,000 new homes hey?? now I am going to be very interested where they are going to be put, because I would bet, that it wouldn't be very close to Wisbech itself. Hence the need for the railway is non existent. (3) How are you going to operate it?? XCountry Stansted to Birmingham ?? EMR Norwich to Nottingham/Liverpool ?? GA Ipswich to Peterborough ?? you are talking a branchline here I cannot see any operator dirverting off the above paths to serve Wisbech So a shuttle?? Wisbech to March, OK we go back to how are you going to better the timings of the bus and better frequency. (4) Drivers hat on now, just one of the jobs we have Felixstowe, Surely more deserving of cash, Doubling Trimley to Westerfield, Haughley Junction remodelling, Capacity signalling Haughley to Chippenham, Doubling Soham to Ely, the infamously Ely North Junction, and finally one word ELECTRIFICATION (5) The misconception is the infrastructure is still there to a fashion, BUT none of it will be able to be re-used, Chain Bridge (condemned) all crossings not fit for purpose. Track bed and Track need totally replacing. Finally Wisbech Station where do you propose to put it, Track bed actually ends in Spillers Yard, Weasenham Lane or Newbridge Lane your really talking too far out of town to be useful. As i have previously said I am not against the idea, but for the amount of money needed there are definitely more worthy projects needed first. Remember Steven Barclay (MP) that was his election promise around these parts, where is he now ??? The only viable option i can see, a big sugar daddy wanting to run a heritage line Wisbech to March with bottom-less pockets !!!!!!! -

The engine room temp I don't think is measured BUT Having had a play with the EM2000 I can say Fans cut in about 194 F and drop out at about 167 F This would be Water temp in loco but it gives a ball park figure

Class 66 photos
berwicksfinest replied to class"66"'s topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Only runs on a Saturday as 4D56 in the week its 4E25 and Biggleswade only as 4D25 !! Yes basically stops load moving, and "gates" lay flat on tins and are strapped No tins under gates can just lay flat. Also worthy to note they are an absolute pig to hawk along in the wind -
Can I ask? Is the 91 project totally dead or possibly resurrected when Hornby make a Hash of it. Also with Hornby just mentioning the Class 91 could the Mk4 and DVT still be brought to life ??
-
I thought they were only doing the unrefurbished version ??
-
More over how about an 86 !!! That'll really get back at Hornby
