  2. To be fair the unloading pad is literally that a pad with a hole in the four foot, and a little cabin so the discharge lad can keep dry in the wet. The product is carried away by conveyor to terminal from underneath, have you tried google earth because that would give a pretty good view from above ?? John
  3. Hi Will I take 6L42/M45 in Barham. Basically the terminal consists of three roads and a headshut L42 arrives on the Up main on the Eastern having joined at Haughley Junction, we are met by G/staff at the entrance sub signal and draw forward to ipswich until clear of the sub signal. We propel into either No 1 or No 2 dependant on what the G/staff sets the road for, until clear of 1380 sub and effectively we are shut in the yard and 1380 set for headshunt. G/Staff splits train in half and we draw into headshunt with 7 until clear of Road 3 (furthest from main line) the discharge road. Dependant on product but more often than not we start unloading drawing forward from wagon behind loco. When half emptied we swap halves using headshunt. Second half emptied M45 put back together again just clear of 1380 then departure crossing over to the Down main (running bang road to Claydon to run round) and finally away back to Peterborough Personally I haven't got any pics but flickr should be able to help Don't forget the foot crossing in the headshunt. conveniently cut short by a scaffolding fence protecting crossing !!!
  4. As one how seems to spend half my life taking trains out of Sorrel. Loading takes place under the bunker by Mountsorrel's own "pilot" which more often than not is remote controlled but can be driven, drawing forward (towards Loughborough) one wagon at a time, and loaded from the bins controlled by a hydraulic "door", because of the capacity of the drop and the volume of the wagon its unusual for continuous loading necessitating stopping per wagon creating mini peaks along the length of the wagon. Loading usually takes place on No 2 road (furthest from MML) only using No 1 road if very busy or fault with No 2 bin
  5. Regard in the headlights as per Class 66s When I was trained on them, we were told basically because during daylight hours the lights are opposite side to the driver to aid being seen from distance by lineside staff. in the hours of darkness the driver would need more illumination cess side for things like TSRs which are reflective as opposed to lit. Plus you have the added benefit of if the headlight fails you have a second (spare) to carry on at train speed. rather than the restrictive 20mph with no headlight.
  6. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky few that wanted some plates off Shawplan I have sent 3 emails and phoned numerous times at various times of the week, all no replies. I checked the website and it does ask you to make contact if using paypal (my preferred method) or it paying by cheque contact Brian to check stock availability. I can understand if Brian doesn't want to have his day eaten up by chatting on the phone, remove the number off the website, and only use e,mail responses. If he doesn't want to spend the day answering email enquires, surely make the order facility online. so all he has to do is pack and post. I have also dealt with Precision, Railtec and Narrow Planet both also I believe are one man operations and I cannot praise them highly enough, Service that actually beats me finishing the models!! Brian may well be old school, however I have now gone elsewhere, sadly now prefer not to use Shawplan, If Brian has enough custom fine but with what I have read and through my own experience and others will take my money. I hope he doesn't suffer because of it .
  7. Sadly the same here. Phoned 3 days on the trot, rings no answer, emailed 3 days later no reply. In this day and age, automated responses for emails, Answer machines for phones. it just provides a destination for enquires and purchases. Sadly though Brian seems not to want my money. Now looking elsewhere for nameplates for other sources
  8. Known as a Spate Board Basically means the TSR the driver should be expecting to be there has been removed early
  9. Definitely Peterborough TMD ! Had our pet 58023 in Mainline Loadhaul 56 (usually off the paper or flyash) Transrail 56 or 60 {on local trips or bricks)
  10. Usually every week day 6F93 from Churchyard Sidings to Ketton routed down Midland Mainline to Leicester then Syston, Manton and Ketton. Then Light Loco out to Peterborough TMD. Light Loco out of Peterborough TMD, crossover at Ketton Signal Box in to Wards Sidings. 6M85 out to Peterborough two way goods, Run round, back to Manton, Leicester, Midland Mainline to Churchyard Sidings. (Can be routed by ECML Grantham, Nottingham Trent if possession is on) There also used to be MEA coal traffic in and empties out but this hasn't run for a considerable while
  11. Well it was deadly serious until someone pointed out it has the incorrect phone number on !!!
  12. As a follow on, Couriers around our way get 45p per parcel, HOWEVER if the parcel isn't left at the property (or neighbour takes it in) the courier has to carry parcel forward (usually to the next day) the pay is zero, nothing !!!! so travelling to a delivery address is at the courier expense (petrol, time etc) and if delivery can't be done the courier gets to do the whole trip again the next day (with no guarantee that they can hand the parcel over). That's why parcels get left in "interesting" places, no delivery no pay
  13. I can say I have wasted my Sunday at Langley Junction taking 5 SD wagons and an offloader thats the minimum

  19. You will have !! thats our depot, and as with all DB locations, instructions on disposal, is to lock, Handbrake and Scotch loco, at Peterborough we usually place a tail lamp by scotches for next driver to easily see.
  20. Thank you, but never will happen Realistically these are 15 years old, and to be fair my FOC don't care about us that much
  21. Basically they have been fitted with a fan in the cab roof (as we all know heat rises) so basically its like sitting in a fan oven now. Tinted film has also been place on side windows again not very effective at all 66090 has been trialled with full proper real air con. infinitely better but is fitted in place of current heater and is n my opinion too low down. Unions I'll refrain from commenting on as they are not my most favourite organisation at the mo
