Mirrors? Miniature TV cameras showing the 'unseen side' to the public? And looking down onto the layout is just what we used to do as observers - make a positive innovatory feature out of it, Nick!
-
Yes it is in fact - on the model anyway, the real thing is pretty flat - but we needed a scenic break at that end as well so we've probably used our quota of artificial occupation bridges in cuttings! See pictures #5 and #6 in http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?app=gallery&module=user&user=6669&do=view_album&album=22

Doesn't look like it - you can edit your original post (via options at the top) or post a new one.

Discussions are on-going about adding the cross-over pointwork at this end which will allow for nice pictures to be taken through the bridge. In general i think "the committee" are in favor of this proposed extension.
Certainly is as far as this 'committee member' is concerned . Anyway, it's on the Templot plan

Shame I can't make it this weekend - but we expect to see pictures!
-
Glad to see the planning crystallising Nick - looks like a good prototype .
So the LBSCR layout is 'parked' for the time being then?
-
Thanks Mark,
What do you want to know about the trackwork? It's all variations on B8s and C10s including a couple of tandems in the middle, and there are some crossings in the 1:5 area where both tracks are curved. On Templot I've just done these with plain lines, I can mark out the actual rails and crossings from another template. The 'diamond' bottom left is actually a double slip of around 1:8. Lines at bottom to from left to right are parcel sidings, the London lines and the Brighton line platforms to the right. At the other end the left route goes to the Oxted lines and the right to Eastbourne and Newhaven.
Oh, and most of it will be third railed as well - although it would be relatively easy to work out the way the conductor rails would be arranged, there are many photographs of this place to assist.
Anything else, ask away

I must say Andy I do like the idea of the FY turntable feeding two directions at right angles. Look forward to seeing this at Taunton

Hi Mark
So reasonable value after all, eh?
Yes, quite a bit more details to mull over. The refuges and their support brackets maybe by this 'new' 3D ABS printing process ( http://www.impossiblecreations.co.uk/default.htm ), various possibilities of plastic or wood section for some of the mouldings, brass etching for the arched brickwork, it will be a concoction of media by the time we've finished!
-
The layout is probably going to be quite unusual in having both 1/2 and full height sleepers as well as copperclad, plastic and ply sleepers in the mix. Rivets are also used on most of the new points and some of the power feeds so its really a mixed bag to demo to new builders!
Sounds a bit of a nightmare for keeping railhead height consistent - what are you using for trackbed adjustment, just card or plasticard packing?
-
I'll be interested to see how these rigid chassis wagons perform on the test track in due course.
-
Had you thought of the 3D plastic moulding service of Impossible Creations for the mouldings and brackets?
That's one of the options we're looking at Paul, yes
-
Theres a good Dolls House shop in Plymouth Rod come to think of it. Do you want me to find out the number?
Nick
Yes please Nick - there was one in Teignmouth until about a year ago, now closed unfortunately (probably gone over to mail/internet order only).
-
One question do you remove the screws once the glue has dried? I can't remember.
Nick
Yes you do remove them - as John and I discussed yesterday in our latest 'planning session' they just serve the same purpose as sash clamps whilst the glue is going off.
-
I don't remember either, it was first used for Eridge Mk1 about 10 years ago! But it's 'N-gauge' and not granite IIRC. It will still get weathered down of course.
-
Just noticed that the canopy on the left hand platform (they're not fixed yet!) is a bit offline - too far to the right
-
Just out of interest Rod what DCC system are you thinking of using?
Hi Nick - we're going for NCE Powercabs
-
I like the old Exactoscale architectural surfaces myself Nick, but not sure if they still have any of the old stock or not. John likes plastic.
Some of the detailed curved bits might be specially etched.
-
Thanks Ian - I have asked on SEmG but no response. I didn't know the pavilions had been reconstructed though, presumably at the same time as the main restoration by the Railway Heritage Trust (been in touch with them too, no reply so far).
But I have been able to do some pretty good dimensioning and drawing from my own photos and others.
No doubt a full set of drawings will materialise when it's finished!
-
Can you measure the dimensions of the pavilions as you're passing?
-
Ah, understood now - at the moment we are just thinking about the carcass but when we come to the brickwork details ...
-
Thanks Jim but nothing like! Ours are semi-circular arches on piers with c/c distances of 140mm in 4mm scale, with the piers themselves up to 300mm high.
I'll put some photos up in the blog so you can see what we're letting ourselves in for.
-
Never mind the space to errect it, where on earth will you store that lot?
Damn, we better stop now then before it's too late! A reasonable question, but Eridge will be (is) stored in its clubroom home in Kent, the rest in an assortment of rooms in an assortment of houses.
There's a lot of self-storage rental places springing up these days ...
-
Neat - how big is the hall at Railex?
Cheers
Jim

Thanks Ian - let's hope we can live up to your faith. I wish I had as much time as John has to devote to it!
