  1. As well as various scenic and engineering work I've been building some new signals to replace the Eckon units that have been in use up until now. One thing I find really bugs me about so many model signals is the colour of the green LEDs. Railway green lights are very blue whereas most model signals tend towards a yellowy green. Maplin sell a green LED that looks much more the right colour, I use these and the rest of that same range as they are high brightness with quite a tight focus beam. On this particular signal there is a feather for the main aspect and a position light sub to give access to the NCB. All the white lights of both are 0603 surface mount LEDs, on the feather I have used the Eckon item as the base but with new lights behind it. the rest of the signal is scratchbuilt apart from the Eckon base. I still need to fit the OHLE cages but the frame is there. I'm waiting for the etch mesh to arrive, should have ordered more ladders too... Still a few more to make, one more like this but the other hand of feather and a few straightforward three aspects. All the shunt signals are now built and in place, that feels like a big step forward! Andi
  2. Are your rolling stock wheels metal or plastic? If they are metal then every single wheel crossing the joint approaching the reversing section will cause a short circuit. Andi
  3. try reading back up the last page or two, all will then make sense, and may then be funny... Andi
  4. 20021 shunts a string of 16 tonners under the former coal drops in Ravensclyffe yard.
  5. I like the look of this, will the shed have the ghost installed? Addiscombe shed was long rumoured to be haunted. Andi (Who used to drive trains into Addiscombe on occasions)
  6. Just a wonder, I've been the border watchman for SWAG for a long time now, just wondering how many other Cheltonians there are on RMweb? Andi
  7. Being as that is just around the corner from my house, and the wall is still there, would you like me to go and have a look tomorrow to see if there is any evidence of it still being there? Edit: Crossposted with yours, hadn't noticed you are local too... Andi
  8. "Common sense" would tell you that if a police officer tells you to go past the red flashing lights then you can go. The LAW tells you that you can't, and that the police officer has broken the law by using his "common sense" Andi
  9. Yep, that's the 14 car formation, how an APT should look Andi
  10. The specs definitely show that the powered vehicles are the power-cars 49006 and 003 in ten car set and 49002 and 005 in the 14 car set. The power cars ALWAYS appeared TOGETHER if two were present, in the centre(ish) of the formations with at least two passenger vehicles either in front of them or behind them. Andi
  11. Clive, you'll have to get that two-tone green hat out that Mrs Dagworth knitted for you A
  12. Has anyone answered which type of pantograph will be supplied with each of the sets? Andi
  13. Everything there is scratchbuilt except the front face panel of the feather which is an Eckon part. Andi
  14. Thanks folks, this is what I've come up with from your photos. Mesh and ladders etc still to add Andi
  15. Hi all, I'm after photos of a fairly specific signal, it needs to be a 3 or 4 aspect colour light (not LED) with a shunt position light subsidiary and a position 4 route indicator feather. To make things more awkward it needs to have an electrification cage, southern half of the WCML style.. Anyone have such a photo they can share please? Thanks in advance Andi
  16. Please don't start quoting legislation that doesn't apply. The DDA was repealed in 2010 (Except in Northern Ireland) It is replaced with the Equality Act 2010 https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/equality-act-2010/what-equality-act Andi
  17. The HS1 OHLE is significantly different to what is installed elsewhere, can it cope better with high speed and multiple pans? Andi
  18. For that passenger, in this weather, it could well be. Andi (and I'm an ex driver too)
  19. If you saw this, you should have used the pass-com (emergency alarm) Andi
  20. And yet, on a model, I always think there's something about a loco running tender first that appeals more to me than if it is the "right" way round. Andi
  21. The one thing I hope that will be incorporated that is missing on the Hornby model is the huge wells through the power car from floor to roof above each bogie. What Hornby portrayed as a black rectangle is actually a hole all the way through, which carries the linkage that prevents the pan from tilting. View from the bogie up to the pan Andi
  22. I don't bother with Wikipedia, I just ask my wife, she knows everything (Several here know my wife in real life and will know that actually she is nothing like that, oh and that she is a member here...) Andi
  23. Try disconnecting the orange and grey wires and put it on the track. If is still shows as overload then you've blown the decoder. Andi
